Please don't merge Xelas and Bob. One of the good things about this map is the lack of politics messing with it. This is the only map that shows how Fountain is actually divided in terms of who owns the stations etc.
At the very least make them a different shade of blue. ---

Agreed. It was nice to see what actual space was claimed, rather than those which are vassals being part of the larger alliance.

I concur, don't let politics enter into this map design or it'll become biased like the others. It's nice to know who feeds the towers in a region, not who "lays claim" on COAD.

I second (third? Whatever) the motion that Xelas shouldn't be the same colour as BoB. The beauty of this map is that politics don't play any part- it JUST shows who has sovereignty where. Xelas do claim physical sovereignty, if not political, so you should be able to see them on the map. Make them a similar colour (maybe the same colour as FIX, to make it a uniform "BoB's residents / slaves / pets / insert name here" colour).
Don't surrender your allegiance to unbiased neutrality just because someone's asked
Also, KoS could do with a different colour. Can barely see it on the map. --------

Hats off to Josh and the Goon map maker for thier efforts but this is, by far, the most accurate and unbiased solution I've seen so far.
EDIT - As was mentioned, yes, please keep a historical record of this so we can watch how the map changes over time. -

The new change of sov in the upper left corner is very useful! But can you put the sov lost and sov gained not next to each other but below each other?

Next to each other is ok. Just give it a bit more space to the right.
Best map ever.

I wonder if the dev/op would feel like generating a small animation using say the last 5-10 immages so we can have an animated view of the changes :P i think java has some simple tools for doing stuff like that.

My question to the author - sorry if this has been answered before.
How do you get all the outpost/station systems from the game?
Unless there is something i am unaware of, you would need to be able to get all systems with stations, and also the sovereignity for all.
Now, you are obviously not doing this by hand. And i am not aware of a way to export the data.
So i would like to ask, which way you used to hack the client?
D3D hook? Python injector? or did you manage to decode ccp's version of zlib that they use in their packets and use a network sniffer? Or is it much simpler and the data is cached in one of eve's cache folders?
I'd really like an answer to that.
If you are sniffing traffic or processing cache files, it would be a mild breach of eula.
If you are hooking the client or injecting python code into it, then that would be a lot heavier breach. And somehow, I think it's the latter >.<
It's a great idea, I don't want to bash it, and I also understand if you don't want to share the way you are doing it, since it might get you banned :P

This is a very nice map. I like it.
Some suggestions: - Make region names more visible. - If you know the sov changes, maybe put some kind of mark on the map where the sov has changed? - This one might be hard, but if you have an archive of the sov data from previous maps, an animation of sov changes would be nice. Not like just changing the images in a gif. Like Flash maybe? Then the flash file wouldn't be as big because it would only need the data and the animation would be made from that.

Edited by: Faceless Pokemon on 14/03/2007 10:49:38 perhaps someone with the required talents and will to do so, could make a webbased application, maybe in flash or something that will grab the maps, and using the datemodified maybe of the file, go backwards and pull out all the previous versions and then animate them somehow so that at any point people can see how the war has progressed. Having it dynamically contain the updates would obviously save the animation having to be updated
Edit: LOL i posted and as i was re-reading my post to ensure it sounded ok noticed that the guy above me also suggested a similar thing.

I told that I won't open the way how I get the sov data. Some later I'll do a sovereignty datafeed for 3rd party devs. Btw, all your suggested ways to get the sov data is forbidden by Eula.

1. Ok. 2. I'll try. 3. Flash action script is slow, very-very slow. One map is rendering for about 15 minutes on java. In Flash it'll render for about a hour. So we get 1 frame per hour = 0,00028 FPS animation speed in flash. :)
I'll make an animated AVI movie later, after collecting sov changes for month or two.
