See what ?. See Oveur once again dodging questions about lag with his 'iwannabeefun' answer Can't you all be friends?.
Me, including everyone i've spoken to, has ZERO interest in this ambulationdevelopement. We want stable servers.
If we wanted to walk in stations, we would play another game. As it is now, we have been shooting ships for 5 years, and we want to keep shooting ships. We dont want to pick a dress or pants for our avatar.
And if you can't sort the lag, why give us ships that require huge supportfleets?. Noone will bring a titan to a hostile system without 100+support..
So you and the unknown number of nameless individuals that you have talked too make up the vast majority of EvE's 200k+ subscription base and therefore those of us who are saying we would like Ambulation are clearly in the minority or were not present when you were making your rounds asking for input and opinion about Ambulation.
Well then, allow me to clearify my position on Ambulation:
I would very much like Ambulation. I feel that being able to walk around in stations will offer the game a new dimension of gameplay for those who enjoy the role play aspect of this game. Further more, the fact that one will never have to leave their ships should they not want to is a smart move on the part of the developers so that those who want no part in this aspect in the game can continue to function without being impeded with having to leave their vessels.
There, now you know atleast 1 person (if you ignore everyone else who has posted in this thread) that wants Ambulation -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Quit your crying. This sounds more like, "I am in BoB...and we rule the galaxy. So, listen to us and accept what we say, or you're all a bunch of morons." I could give a rats rear what you, your corpies, and the rest of BoB thinks about Ambulation. There are plenty of us that would like a little more depth to the EVE experience, and Ambulation looks like it may be a step towards that. Just because you and your clique don't want it doesn't mean that the rest of us don't. That guy with the silly name. |

I think ambulation could be a good thing if it enabled me to be able to kick down someones corp office and chuck a grenade in when they dock up.
But alas it will be designed with carebears in mind, where one can get a haircut, a pair of pink pants and a pint of space brew.
Eve was much better when all you could do was mine, build and blow shit up.

well, if you stop playing the "OMFG I BRING BLOB WREAAAAH!" game, and join an empire pvp corp (like a mercenary, or even better, pirates), you will notice that, bar the systems where there is massive lag/populations during primetime, you actually can enjoy near lag-free, or no lag at all, pvp.

you are not required to get out of your ship when ambulation arrives, like today with FW: you can choose to not participate at all.

If they remove lag in 1000 ship battles, there will be 10000 ship battles. It's a neverending story.

I'm not annoyed by it - I hardly ever see any lag. I know many veterans and by and large they are indifferent. We've had to put up with lots of issues over the years and we've adapted. We wouldn't still be here if we were going to get worked up over it. -- (Sarcastic mission running veteran, 4+ years)

Adapt or move on....isn't that what BoB has told others time and again.
If you want to fix lag then you need to do the following:
1. Upgrade the supercomputer that runs EVE so that it can handle accurately all calculations in milliseconds. 2. Upgrade all computers used by all players to be able to handle all calculations in milliseconds. 3. Upgrade the internet to be able to transit data from source computer to supercomputer and back again in milliseconds.
That is the only way you will ever remove lag. Price tag in the hundreds of millions and possibly billions of dollars.

Laggy fleet fights boring - Agreed Easy ganks with a 20+ man gang boring - Agreed Make ISK boring - Agreed
So, make it more challenging. Go roam by yourself, or go roam with only a few other guys. If you do it enough you can get some really fun skirmish fights, or even get outnumbered but still have the ability to kill a few and then run off. It's moments like that that keep me playing EVE.
I agree though, Ambulation isn't something I am too thrilled about. I'd much rather have stupid things like (0m from stargate JUMP! - "You must be 2500m from stargate" WTF!?) fixed.

To the OP - dear God, yes. I agree!
To the quote above - this is the same excuse that CCP has given us for each of their "new developments" to EVE. But it is just a red herring. The issue is that they COULD have spent that money on a programming team to FIX the UI and all the lag issues in the existing game. Instead they chose to "waste" it on a non-essential extension to the game that is really only more eye candy in a game that is top heavy with eye candy and desperately weak on a UI design.

What part of "different team" don't you people understand?
The only other option was to develop the WoD engine but have EVE gain no benefit from it at all. While that would have been a net loss for everyone (CCP get no beta test and no new demographic, players get no new content) involved, it would keep the whiners happy. -

so...? i'm sorry CCP but although the guy is from bob, i have to agree -.-
the number of concurrent users has stagnated. we've had need-for-speed™. the result was less "i'm stuck in jita" topics but that's it. besides... it took 43minutes yesterday from clicking >>>undock to getting my first overview content in perimeter (no... not a freighter, a nano scimitar). i lost the previous one to a good ole' desync (i _am_ within 2500m of the gate ffs!) travelled half an hour to jita, waas stuck there for an hour, half an hour retour. by the time i met up with the gang, it was all over - so much for PvP. "plz send in a bug report"? if you keep sending the most obvious ones back saying irreproducable...? i can listen to george michael's "faith" only so many few times.
quit chasing media attention and get the work at hand done.
there's latencies in ice mining gangs of 30 up to the point where cycles get lost due to exceeded cargoholds. desync is omnipresent: orbiting someone in a belt for a minute (pvp, that is) and you can't rely on your position one bit anymore. can't have it both ways? yeah... right...
what about windows that were supposed to stay where we told them to (overview refuses to stay away from "selected item", the joys of the drone window, etc) solutions for dysp (or moon mining in general)? assault frigs? transport ships (the larger ones)? commander spawn loot table repairs? ('cause i don't see an influx of machariel BPC from missionrunners in curse any time soon, which covered up the problem thus far) null-sec incentives (especially for places between -0.00 and -0.55)? combat drugs (production)? the interbus thingy you wanted to "look into"? the thing which would deliver stuff anywhere in the constellation? outpost upgrades? rigs? capital ships? (small and agile just doesn't work there. the remote rep bonus is cute but that's it...) the general method of game balancing... always too much across the board, both direct and indirect (see: the drone nerfs, the laser boosts) when years-old minnies, who stood against m.a.t.a.r. - "might aswell train another race", cross-train amarr and pulse lasers these days, you know where it's at.
"hey... it was worse two years ago" yes, but not a year ago. i admit i get used to stuff (although i still prefer the old map) and i'm probably spoiled when it comes to one or more topics. but there are lots of flaws affecting the basics and thus everybody. so it is more than natural to want these things get fixed before any more source of complications ties up any more manpower which you obviously lack already. - putting the gist back into logistics |

Yes, yes. Lag.
Sure it is annoying that the servers can't keep up with the advancements in game. Who would have even dreamed of 350 capital ships in a fleet 2 years ago?
So yes, the in game development is really astounding and the servers cannot cope with it. So ... what do you suggest? That CCP should stop all work on other projects and assign all available resources to fight the lag?
And how do you know that they don't spend a lot of manpower on reducing the lag? I am sure they are.
On the other hand ... I really doubt that all the designers and artists can help with building up the planned supercomputer ( a devblog about how it goes might be good though ), don't you think so?
I for my part are really looking forward to the Ambulation (at least if CCP is doing that what I hope they are doing ).

Lots of people want Ambulation. I'm looking forward to taking peoples isk playing poker ;D Also CCP wont be able to fix lag. Like others have said, if CCP says now systems can have 400 ppl in one system with no lag, people will push it and try for 500. Then people will whine about the lag again.
It's probably best to compare it to ancient warfare where the size of an army mostly determined the outcome. It will be awhile before we shift to the phase where tactics and some good luck will determine outcomes of battles.

Edited by: FluterEx on 13/07/2008 20:54:58 For the idiots who think ambulation will add to the lag: YOU ARE WRONG. You should start thinking logic before you start ranting about something. Lets take Jita for example. The way it is now all of the carebears hanging around there are sitting at a gate, infront of Jita 4-4 or docked at Jita 4-4. This creates a lot of lag because everything has to be processed by the (i can only guess so correct me if i am wrong) one server. This obviousley is sometimes to much for the server to handle. Now if ambulation is released and there is a additional server that processes all the data from the docked ppl this doesnt need to be processed by the server that handles the usual flying content anymore. And i assume a lot of ppl who spen most of their time docked and do some market sniping will enjoy to see something else than their ship. and i think lots of ppl who use to park their ships infront of the station will dock too. So ambulation will help fixing the lag until more carebears go to jita and cry carebear tears for being stuck or lagged. And dont forget it will for sure be nice for the Rpers (i am not a active Rper but sometimes its nice to do). I personally am looking forward to the release of ambulation. ---------------------------------------
