The only people interested in this are the carebears that sit in empire and never leave it. Thats all CCP care about these days as they make up the vast majority of their player base.

They cant fix the lag.
Lolwut? I'd love to know what you base that on.
Lag will always exist, there's even lag when you talk to someone in reallife, the time it takes for the sound to travel.. Just as there is lag when you send data over the internet, even though it might be at the speed of light, it's not lagfree.
Now, the real solution is reducing the lag. If the lag would be the same as the amount of time it takes for light to travel then it would be fine :P

That's funny, I spend most of my time out in 0.0, and I'm still interested in this. I can't speak for my corpies or alliance, but we're all based out in 0.0, and I'm sure there's more people than just me out there interested in it.

I wont trash ambulation before I see it, because I had low expectations for factional warfare and then CCP got it exactly right; however, OP is right in that making the game run more smoothly (less grid-loading time, reduced lag, etc.) is the best thing CCP can do for it. Without any lag, medium-gang warfare could have the adrenaline and hair-trigger excitement of small gang, and large ones could be tolerable. Furthermore, it would prevent the massive amount of blueballing that happens because no smart FC is willing to risk loading grid last unless they have a massive edge in force.

I admit that I haven't read all the whinage in the thread, nanos, BoBbits or otherwise, but assuming separate nodes for station-side environments, this should leave more resources to the nodes that deal with space-side pew pew?
Also, stuff about artists and designers vs. programmers working on EVE vs. programmers working on "future WoD game engine".

I like how you can just say things and believe them to be true. "The sky is orange," "No ship has ever done a backflip," "eagles can't blink." Wow, this is pretty fun! ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

We're paying for it's development, we were told that in that Eve Costs More Because... statement issued by the Council of Stellar Triviality. (We're also paying for the CSM to have free holidays I presume)
We also know it's not for Eve, but they need the character tech for some game their American masters are developing or some such.
So... yeah...

Band of Bandwagoneers, what the hell do you expect when you gather together 800 man blobs. There are tonnes of smaller alliances out there that are having great fun.
Your right about one thing, its Titans that are destroying this game, and your alliance has an abundance of those, so unfortunately you will never get lag free fights. People will never engage a fleet with Titan backup without outnumbering the support fleet by a sufficient amount.
I don't see what walking on stations has to do with anything though, i'd hazard a guess and say the teams dealing with server performance and the teams dealing with new content are two completely separate entities?

Originally by: Darkeen to fix ALL lag - buy your own T3 cable direct to the CCP offices. Sure, your up for a couple of Billion DOLLARS, but hell, at least YPOU can have a Lag free game!.... except when there are a couple hundred people in one sector. So you'll need to buy Big Blue a cpouple times over - one for each regions and let CCP install them as EVE servers..
or you can put up with the lag that you do have... Try playing with 300+msec lag times and then come whining... Some of us have to put up with that and simply live with it cause this is such a hugley Fantastic game!
You'd need to have that cable routed to London. That's where the server is.

Originally by: Aloriana Jacques I'm sorry you're not looking forward to this lovely addition to the EVE universe. But some of us actually are. I am one of them.
And if you havn't been paying attention, this may lead to future expansions, including world combat, settlements, etc. One thing at a time.
If I wanted settlements, walking around, world combat I would play somethign else than EVE. EVE is based in space, where you fly ships to kill people. Market and economy are just an extra, something that makes it more interesting and leads to killing people.
Perhaps with ambulation we could get quests? "Hello Dihania, please run through that corridor and kill those Amarr, bring me their id chips for the Gallente glory" "Oh, here, use this fire extinguiser to break their skulls. Guns are expensive"
Why the **** would I want that?
People focus more in sitting in station and playing pocker or using the chat as msn. How about making them get the **** out of the station?
Ambulation crap.
Settlements... I go play Age Of Empires. ffs
Oh and if you fancy watching some "hot looking gallente/amarr/minnie/caldari woman" there are plenty of pron sites.

don't get me wrong, I have a market alt and I do play the market, but I get my fun from blowing shit up. THat's the main purpose of this game, to evolve and be better than the rest, dominate, etc. I don't understand people who log on to play poker or chat.

Because, or at least the current rumor says, you can do more than just shoot people in the face
Otherwise, you should go play Descent. Old game but definately UT in space before UT was even made.

I agree with the OP.
Slagging off a new feature that you have not seen based on rumour and speculation, that wonĘt affect you if you choose to ignore it, that wonĘt affect other current game development - pure TBQFH.

Unfortunately CCP cant fix the internet, perhaps if instead of using super blobs you used more smaller gangs you would have less lag.
Read the latest EON's section on lag and start to realise that a lot of lag is due to your actions and your ISP and the internet in general.
Lots of people are looking forward to Ambulation, if you dont want to play it then dont, its completely optional.

Internet space ships is serious business, walking in a internet space ship game is kind of stupid.
So yes I don't like Ambulation because it's wasting resources, resources which should go in improving this game, which has so many parts broken. If I would want a character which could walk/emote/cyborz I would of played another game.
Now regarding lag, CCP had failed in 2 years to provide any real solution. If CCP would had informed us that they can't do anything about lag and not dangle in front of us the "need for speed" many of us would had left.
Now we have "Infiniband", then we have " super computer" ...
This game is about destroying ships...if we can't do that, please tell us and we will let you go on with your walking, eating, drinking in stations.

I'm going to buy a new computer if ambulation is implemented in the autum release. That's how much I'm looking forward to it.
As a sci-fi fan, the idea of wandering around in a station after docking my ship makes me very happy indeed.

Yes, let's halt all development of all kinds until CCP fixes the limitations of the internet and/or has their own server center for each and every solar system.
Or not.
Lag is bad, but there's simply a price to pay for a world like EVE's world. This is not to say they shouldn't try and come up with fixes (since I started playing again there has been way more lag than I would have liked to see, compared to 2004 when I played the last time), but it's never as simple as putting everything else on halt until issue X is solved. That's just not how it works, and certainly not how it would work the best.

Same, but luckily I already bought a new PC in time for trinity :D I was so glad it was delayed to december, because it meant I had my PC up and running a week before it was released :>
Ambulation has got me really excited, being a former roleplayer I really love EVE because of it's immersive backstory, music and atmoshpere. Ambulation will be the greatest expansion yet, followed closely by trinity. I also look forward to when they improve the rest of the graphics ofcourse.

Edited by: Soden on 14/07/2008 11:48:23 Alpha Prime has a very good point. we all have had very bad luck with lag when it came to moving thu systems (jita) or doing lvl 4 missions or jumping into a gate camp. ambulation is a ok idea but if end game content is suffering then yes there is a problem. with bob moving around 1000+ ships they should be able to move at least 500 of them at a time and not get too much lag. i mean goonswarm has done things like this in the past. now i understand i will lag a bit to render the other ships but if FPS is keeping up i want to be able to take advantage of that instead of lagging due to server unable to handle a 400 v 400 ship battle ( people in UNC and bob understands this issue) truly bob should be able to move their fleet and not be nerfed because their fleet is too big. granted who knows where the 350+ cap ships came from. but they have them and should be able to use them. they have a lot of small ships and are going to be trying to take out systems to clear way for the big toys. i want to be able to fight them in a lag free/less lag environment. just because there are those around who can't muster up 300+ friends to go roaming with doesn't mean the bigger allinaces can't. point is that a having a stable game imo is more important then new content on the grounds that if new players come to see that end game gets the shaft. what would keep them?
p.s. besides i hate freaking lag deaths. and trust me. my FPS is just fine. Note:yes i understand you can't fully remove lag but preventing at must would be nice. i would like to fly near/in jita one of these days
