Well - if "walking in station" is as usefull as the animation when you switch to Map-Mode - then i vote against it. What i dont need is to waste time when i hit the diffrent button in a station.
atm i'm more in the production mood... so i would like to see more "business" features like a real accounting and so.... i pvp against other producers...

So yes I don't like Ambulation because it's wasting resources, resources which should go in improving this game, which has so many parts broken. If I would want a character which could walk/emote/cyborz I would of played another game.
Now regarding lag, CCP had failed in 2 years to provide any real solution. If CCP would had informed us that they can't do anything about lag and not dangle in front of us the "need for speed" many of us would had left.
Now we have "Infiniband", then we have " super computer" ...
This game is about destroying ships...if we can't do that, please tell us and we will let you go on with your walking, eating, drinking in stations.
Ehmm I don't know how many times we need to repeat this!
The people working on 'Ambulation' is a completely different team then the original EVE dev team. The latter one is still the same and the same resources are still working on improving EVE itself!
The team working on 'Ambulation' are specilised in working on just that, so it would INDEED be a waste of resources if they had to be trained into working on EVE and thus also wasting time on those DEV's then busy training them.
Next to that, more DEV's in a team doesn't automatically improve the quality and amount of fixing! You can have just that many people working on the same code at once ;) Also something people fail to see nor comprehent!
L.E.A.R.N. to read all the articles about Ambulation first! Before bashing a feature you appearently know NOTHING about!
Second, they have stated so many times that Ambulation will be COMPLETELY OPTIONAL! Will run on a COMPLETELY SEPERATE environment! And thus NOT interfering with the Tranquility cluster itself and using her resources!

I'm looking forward to Ambulation
I fully expect that at first, ambulation will completely SHOCK and AWE the Eve community with its almost complete LACK of meaningful features....
However....
It will be an entirely new aspect of the game, ripe for developement and expansion.
DEPTH makes for a good game
Play nice while you butcher each other.

You donĘt need to repeat anything, unless you want to look even stupider. Resources is not taking an animator and move him to technical team. Resources is basically money, every team has a budget. The Ambulation team is eating lots of resources aka money, which could be used in different ways, from hiring more people to work on stringent part of the game, to buying outside experts in different technical fields or to buy hardware. (If they had a real QA department, they wouldnĘt of deleted the users ini files)
And this idiotic idea, that you can have too many peopleą like 2 programmers, one writes half line and then other continues to finish the line and they will mess up the work. In every IT project I worked there wasnĘt once when we had too much people, only too less.
So before posting some crap trying to think for yourself for a change.

CCP merged with White Wolf if you did any research. And if you think the guys at White Wolf are going to help CCP fix EVE Online, as you appearently propose. Then you are highly mistaken, as they work on a different MMO!!
And there you go! As on who's engine will Ambulation be based on? And thus wich resources are spend on Ambulation itself?
Enough said.

No. We're commenting based on the information we have. There's nothing wrong with that. CCP has a culture of silence. If we have incorrect information you're the only one to blame.

To fix lag CCP has to: move databases away from MS solutions, make system more distributable, I dont think its possible to have more than one node working one grid, but at best, each heavily loaded grid in system being on separate node would be a huge improvement. (at this time you cant have more that one node working a entire solar system).
Those two would be max humane effort possible to fix lag. And are both a coding nightmares.

Originally by: Karentaki I'm not certain of this, since I haven't been around for long enough, but as far as I know CCP have repeatedly 'fixed lag' as you put it. I seem to recall posts about a time when eve lagged badly if there were more than 50 people in a 0.0 system. They fixed this so that now you can have up to a few hundred per system before the node dies, but did this fix lag? NO! CCP don't create lag - Alliances who insist on following the policy of 'bigger is always better' when it comes to fleet blob warfare do. They are the ones who keep bringing more people to a system until the game becomes unplayable, and they should be the ones to 'fix lag'. I suggest if you have a problem with lag in 0.0 fleets blobs, then you send a nice message to the enemy, and your own, leadership, suggesting a limit of only 100 ships per side, and no titans. Please post back here and tell me how that works out for you
Drones, missiles, titans with huge support fleets, epic 100 vs 100 battles are something that Eve touts as a feature. The game mechanics of fleet size supports 500 ship battles and drones/missiles means the number of floating objects in the system are going to be closer to a few thousand.
I don't know why people think this is something that the playerbase can or should self-police itself on. If I hop into FW and my fleet has 50 people in it and the opposing fleet has 50 people in it there's massive lag. You want to tell one side or the other that it should purposefully form smaller? That'll just result in 50 vs 25 and the self-policing fleet gets spanked hard.
People fight to win. Its the game that needs to retrofit itself to support the features it touts.

Eh, it could if the game was designed to work in a way that takes advantage of it. This is a design problem not a tech problem. Infiniband/etc is just tools meant to help the problem without requiring any significant redesign work and because there is no redesign work it'll most likely ultimately fail to fix the problem.

Quite agree tbh.
I see it go the same way tbh. Alot of the older players have left. The games all about whos got the most numbers and im personally alittle sick of some of the imbalances. One shock was when they boosted falcons for no good reason.
Another gripe is the over abundance of Recons, and how powerful they are.
Would very much like to see balance take precidence over content most definetly.

That's not the problem. The gains you'd see by swapping out SQL server for Oracle wouldn't be significant enough to fix the issue. This is a design issue (ie, how many round trips need to get made for something to be carried out, how efficiently packed the data is, etc). This is too large of a problem to fix by throwing DB2/Oracle and expecting the marginal performance gains to magically fix the problems.

However you feel about ambulation it seems unlikely CCP are doing this on a 'whim'.
They'll have analyzed market trends in the MMO industry, and they'll probably have noticed that a good % of MMO players play because they identify with their 'avatar'. Then they will have done some market research to determine if those MMO players play EVE, played EVE but left, or simply have never subscribed.
The sum of this equation will have told CCP that in game avatars = revenue. Revenue and a player base they currently dont have, a share of the market theyre not meeting the needs of.
And so ambulation comes to the fore. Essentially it doesnt matter how much you reduce lag, make splangly spaceships or tweak attributes on a destroyer -those players that will be gained and retained by ambulation would be lost.
Sure, some players will leave EVE if the spangly ships, lag and destroyer tweaking don't meet their needs: but not as many as will be gained by ambulation. CCP know this. They've done the sums, researched the pull of a more fully realised 'universe'.
You might not like the 'new' EVE player, EVE might change (its always changing) but ultimately if you dont adapt - you'll die.
So quit whining.

The facts are that Eve would need to be re-written in another programming language from the ground up to utilise all the lovely multiprocessor and multicore technology we have today. As has been said before by CCP the actual problems are not bandwidth related but cpu related.
CCP now has the resources (manpower and money) to re-write eve but for some reason they wont do it and they are resolute in the stance that they will not shard the server either even though several 5000 player servers would make large scale fleet combat enjoyable.
200+ vs 200+ large scale fleet battles is what people want, whilst ambulation might be fun and a nice way to get 20,000 '6 months and we're gone' type subscribers it's not likely to keep the '3 years+ and counting' lot happy.
I hate to say this but Eve has had an easy ride, because it has had no direct space mmo competitor it has reigned supreme in this genre for years. If a contender comes along that offers relatively low lag large scale pvp then i'd bet a gazilion isk players will either jump ship (no pun intended) or CCP would suddenly become 'interested' in these issues again.
Just my 2 trits. _______
