Here is another possible solution. Just like the broken sentry guns before make it widespread news that using the exploit will be punished severly. Now how many people really use the exploit? Can't be too many right since 1 there arent many cloaks out yet and 2 most people aren't wasting their time doing something like that to random people.
So, make it known using the exploit won't be allowed. Anyone caught doing it (can't be too hard looking at kill logs to see if someone was ganked by corcord + the ship who was attacked was cloaked) could be punished in the following way. Confiscate their cloaking modules, ALL of them even if they have some spare ones. REMOVE their cloaking skill and put their sensor upgrades skill back to lvl 1. By the time they have trained up again for cloaking the real fix should be ready. That way you don't have to make this terribly bad decision. Since the amount of 'exploiters' is probably so low you'd only have to do it a maximum of 5 times to solve the problem

Ooooooooooooooooh, I like that idea.
I think skill-removal should be used in place of banning - it hurts so much more.

Great idea but it won't work. CCP won't be able to pull it off. Somone used the sentry gun exploit on me and CCP told me that it was no longer an exploit. They refuse to punish exploiters, it's legitimate players that get the shaft, thats CCP policy.

Edited by: fairimear on 03/07/2004 09:21:14 I think the KEY point here is that ne nerf to cloaks is TEMPORY and is reset to the current Cloak atributs ASAP. We want the cloaks to work like they do now, not with ne no cloak in empire or just 10km in empire.
Its simple this thread could be shut if they would CONFIRM its a temp hotfix and a ESTIMATED date of a full fix that will returns the clokas to there current abilitys.

An estimated date for a full fix would _not_ be a good idea. The reality would be that the actual date will be a couple of weeks later than the estimated date, so there will be a couple of weeks of people moaning on the boards (as per usual) which is getting a bit boring tbh. --- "Due to the European lard shortage, we are currently unable to supply this product." |

Edited by: Hakera on 03/07/2004 14:13:33 tbh - I would prefer that a threat of ban is better than a quick fix. I doubt that people using cloaked getting splashed by sb's is a major problem, yes its an exploit, but I doubt there are more than a few cases of its use.
Just do like the sentry gun problems, acknowledge the problem / potential exploit and warn players that use it will be banned. There is (I hope) sufficient logs to show where someone was attacked by concord for splashing a cloaked player. I doubt people abusing this is widespread at all and certaintly not enough to warrant cloaking being totally ineffectual till a better fix is coded on the aggression system.
Keep the de-cloak radius to 1k, remove the decloak radius from all objects however, ships and primary objects like stations or gates should de-cloak a player. Its silly that 4 bs's firing rockets at each other can create a cloak-free camp in a 60km sqaure around the gate. This will be worse if we de-cloak within 10k of any object.
tbh - i hate the way de-cloak works, its too easy, i think players should need a sensor module to find cloaked ships anyway.
Please, just use a threat of ban and leave it as it is until a full fix can be made.

So I wasted my time collecting jove parts and getting 6 Cloaking 2 devices :( Set the decloak range to 3k which seems reasonable to me, I hope this gets resolved to a reasonabley satisfactory lvl soon

Cloaking is fun and it works.
1km range is cool and with the delay you can't really gank anybody.
Get lost CCP and screew up something else.

Gee looks to me like feedback.
And i havent seen anyone in favor of the 10km nerf, only those in favor of if it is extremely temporary, and of the 212 replies, i have seen 2-5 of those in favor that way. Also, keep this topic clear of any kind of personal attaking .... cough cough... JC and MOOstradamus.
Lets not undermine the major issue here.

The Dev and Game Design teams are continuing to discuss the implications of the 10km decloak range and other options to resolve this. The 10km decloak range is a temporary change.
Now, just because a Dev isn't posting to this thread in response to everyone, or every 30 minutes does not mean that this thread, let alone the topic, is being ignored.
Finally, this thread has taken a somewhat nasty turn between some players. Keep the discussion relevant, on-topic and constructive. If the discussion continues down the current path of flaming, attacks and other nastiness, I will lock the thread, start another one up and take action against those players that cannot follow the forum rules. Hopefully that won't be necessary.
