Still having client installation problems, must have downloaded around 20gb of crap installs now.. ..raised a petition under installations and patching as follows recommend anyone with similar issues does the same:
"Since the auto-patch I get a message "Your Eve client installation may have modified, damaged, or corrupt files. Please re-install the game client Verification failed: "C:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\common.ini", crc:c9f3b09e, expected:590402d8.
I've tried downloading the full client but it reports a curruption.
I've tried downloading an offline full installation of the client but it stops downloading after about 120mb.
I've tried patching an old client (72263) but again it reports a curruption.
I currently have no way of getting a working client, and as a result since the patch release have no way of logging in.
I'm running Windows Vista SP1, Please advise.."

Edited by: Rid**** I on 19/04/2009 11:16:30 hober .. i have had that exact same problem for 5 days .and as far as i can see there is no workaround i tried every possible way to install it , even installing aseperate os on a partition to dl it .. bur the problem doesnt lie with us ccp dont answer my petitions . in the end i had no choice but to purchase the client from steam for ú9 and used that to install it which worked perfectly .. and then still had to patch that version with lhe latest build ,but had no problems there so , whilst i seriously begrudge having to pay for a game that i allready pay for i saw no other options , now at least i have the game on steam for future ccp induced failures

The ownership of patch/download errors on behalf of CCP is failtastic. The steam client is now also giving CRC errors, saying I need to download the full client.
Done, done and done.
I shouldn't have to troubleshoot a client that somehow passed the QA inspection.

After 6 days of being unable to install the patch or client due to the patch corrupting the installation or the client download finishing before it should, which many other people have complained of, the bittorrent link is finally linking to the new client where before it linked to the previous old client. I have now been able to download the client and install the game sucsesfully. Hope any one else having problems with the patch/client can now download and install the game.

Lucky you.. I'm about to just say the hell with it and do a charge back on the 3 months I pre-paid for my 3 accounts. It's honestly just not worth the hassle of dealing with this same problem every time a patch is released.
It's been several days since the last patch and I still can't use the 3 account's I've paid for. It's the same story over and over and the people with this problem just get ignored.

Edited by: Leeroy Khan on 24/04/2009 00:28:58 Edited by: Leeroy Khan on 24/04/2009 00:28:11 I am just about done with CCP. My latest, fifth attempt to download the new client -- on a fresh windows XP Sp3 install (fair enough, it was time for a reinstall anyway) -- no antivirus running, just gave me yet another CRC error after a 3 hour download.
This is bull**** of the highest order. I download much larger files for work as a routine matter. I'm afraid the game, while lots of fun when it's working properly, is just not worth it to me to have to swallow this load from CCP every time they 'upgrade' the client. I don't think my time on EVE will survive CRC / corruption a sixth time around. A pity, not that anyone here or at CCP give two bits one way or the other.
I have filed a petition
Quote: Petition Body I am on my fifth download of the latest full client since the initial release of 1.1, twice have i tried your bittorrent method, and twice the direct download. I know better than to try the auto-installer so my downloads are of the 'offline install' client download. I have rebuilt my Windows XP SP3 system, with barely any software isntalled and no antivirus enabled. All the downloads complete normally, without error. All of the downloaded packages appear to be of the correct size. all of the downloaded packages fail with a file corruption error. My character has not been in training for over a week because of this. I feel I have been extraordinaly patient with CCP through many problematic upgrades (read: all of them) because I understand that sometimes stuff happens and you have to just get through it. Well. The same stuff keeps happening. Three years now. I don't want money back from you. What I want is for CCP to get their heads out of their backsides and show a modi****of competence in what the rest of the entire ****ing software industry managed to master well over two decades ago. Every ****ing update you manage to completely ****ing blow it. This is not rocket science. Please unceremoniously sack or fire of whatever the **** you call it - get the **** rid of the **** eating monkeys responsible for client packaging and deployment and hire talent that has a goddamn ****ing clue. This is not a spooky windows problem, this is not a CDN problem. This is a software company that can't master the most basic task of download + extract. Are you ****ing kidding me? Are you ****heads just having a good laugh at our expense every time you squeeze out a steaming pile of **** you call a "patch upgrade" ? When was the last time that worked right? DO NOT REBOOT (yeah that was a "windows issue" because nobody would have guessed naming a critical app file on a windows platform 'boot.ini' would be a bad idea. golf. clap.) Get your ****ing act together and show some balls in the ranks of your leadership and address this issue - AND NOT WITH THE SAME PEOPLE WHO KEEP ****ING IT UP. Whoever it is and whoevers sister they are nailing to keep their job it isn't woth it. Man the **** up and do it. Thanks for wasting just a little bit more of my time. Mother. ****. GM Ocelot Sent - 4/24/2009 5:40:00 PM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello,
If you're unable to download the full client or patches without errors we would recommend that you try going to another location and try to download the files or ask friend to try downloading the files for you. If you have a friend that plays EVE and has an updated client you can just copy his client install folder over your to update your client as well.
Best regards, GM Ocelot The EVE Online Customer Support Team
To which i have replied:
Quote: Thank you for the response. Since I last posted I've tried downloading from four different clients now with the same results, sometimes getting a file (without error) that is much smaller than it should be. Two of them were Win2003 server clients at two different locations on the east coast (read: ISP's/routes) and another was in the northwest. I am in the southwest. I have access some some 300+ other servers throughout the united states but I'm going to stop that approach. I have tried the download from literally every major carrier in the united states. I have tried using three different browsers. Attempts number 6, 7, 8 and 9 results: FAILURE Sure i could get the file from a third party but this is the first time I've heard CCP provide that guidance. Can you, or can you not, provide a reliable download for me?
Same old software vendor song and dance I know too well. "Others have successfully downloaded and installed the client so clearly there is an environment issue on your end. Try figuring out what you've done wrong and try again."

Last addition to my petition on this subject is below. All i can say is thank goodness CCP isn't in a serious software industry or they'd all have been looking for new jobs long before they hit 2000 users online.
Quote: I suppose CCP can now bury this ticket along with the thousands of other upgrade/patch deployment petitions they've had for years now. No No No, it can't be you, right? It's that infernal internet thinggy everyone in the 90's figured the **** out. But not you. It's the darned complicated internet, right?
From the same PC, browser, network connection, and download link that failed 5 times before and after trying 4 other machines from across the goddamn continent the tenth download finally worked. Finally and **** you. I suppose this is just one reason you're writing games and not professional software that actually has any meaning. "Attention to detail is the sign of a professional" = you guys pretty much suck, even if the game, client, and network code remain quite impressive. ****ing get your act together, i know you have the talent.

I tried yesterday to patch my SiSi version of EVE to test some things I wanted. Haven't run the client since Apocrypha went out, so I copied the TQ client (build 86756) to another folder, fixed the shortcuts and run it to start patching to whatever build it has come to. The autodownload patcher started and I waited for ages for it to download only to see an Error message about some checksum. !#$@#$!@$#$....
Long story short, I managed to find the "evepremiumpatch86756-87385_test_m.exe" file and the "evepremiumpatch87385-87566_test_m.exe" from CCP page. So I patched the client first to build 87385 and then to build 87566, which is according to CCP the latest build (Current Client Version: 87566) (not to mention that the link "Download TQ to Singularity Patch" doen't work as stated on above post).
Well, full of joy, I started up the client... only to see that the Status of SiSi was UNKNOWN. I waited up a bit to see if another patch message will arrive... guess what...
I'm still waiting!!!
P.S. Is SiSi actually online????

Yes, it's online now. But I still cannot download the TQ to Singularity patch from here http://www.eveonline.com/patches/patches.asp?s=singularity.
Check the server status here: http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/server_status.php and you can see it's up right now.

Hey all,
I have played a number of mmo's in the past and am really enjoying Eve. Have only been on for a few days so am a noob at this game. I have an issue and am not sure how to resolve it (without a full re-install). The game appeared to load fine for the first few days, now I get the Apocrophya font with the cool space clouds......then it disappears and if i use windows aero (yes i know its vista and it sucks) all i see is a white screen with the 'E' logo. I was able to get it running earlier by loading the safe version, but now I got nadda. Any ideas on how to fix?

Same problem here with the new MAC. I'm not a complaining person normally, but I really am getting sick and tired of the problems with installers and game issues since Apocalypse. CCP do you ever test the patches beforehand. Looks like a complete reinstall needed and hours of time wasted redoing all my settings... grrr.

Edited by: Tultok Mutambe on 07/05/2009 08:45:28 I too am one of the people experiencing download issues. I already have a working Eve installed so I can play the game, but I wish to install Eve to another computer so my brother and I can play at the same time. Both online and offline installer won't work. The torrent link doesn't even link to a torrent. The download speed is inconsistent. A few times it will reach +100 kb/s, but most of the time it goes around 10-30 kb/s. Though the speed in the end doesn't matter because no matter how many times I have so far tried to download, the download process shuts itself down randomly, what I am left with are useless partially downloaded Eve client files. I have experienced this not only on the computer I am trying to install the Eve Client on, but also on two other PCs. I have tested my internet connection speed, 3.3 MB/s download, 607 kb/s upload.
Just like a lot of other people have suggested, postin the client and patch files on mirrors separate from CCP servers could help a lot of people.

If anyone has any ideas how to fix this, I'll be really happy - as I'm totally out of ideas.
Short history - since the 1.2 patch I've not been able to update the game (the auto-patcher has never worked for me). So I uninstalled the game and downloaded the client first by the regular installer, then by bit-torrent. All in all I've downloaded the 2gb file about 10 times - the game files refuse to unpack and give me a CRC error before the install screen.
So thinking it was something to do with my machine causing the file corruption - I downloaded the client on my old XP desktop (too slow to run EVE) in the basement via the bittorrent downloader. The file unpacked and installed fine on that PC. So I copied the .exe file of the "uncorrupted" client (and a copy I unpacked manually via 7zip) to a portable HDD and tried to install on my main PC. The unpacked copy gave me a Checksum error, and the packed client gave me the CRC error again.
Last resort - I reinstalled windows Vista on my main PC (using the utility to restore it to the factory setting and erasing my HDD in the process). About 3 - 4 hours later I copy the files from the HDD - and wouldn't you know - I get the same checksum and CRC errors.
There's nothing in Windows that should be causing this, so I'm finding it hard to understand how the exact same file can install on one computer, yet be "corrupt" on another. In simple language - that's bull****! I've disabled my internet security and switched off account management control in Vista to no avail. The thing just doesn't want to know.
Is the game now no longer compatible with Windows Vista?
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Still no word from CCP on the installation issue? I haven't played once since the patch last week.... reinstall client, reinstall client, reinstall client.... over and over.... error messages.... checksum, etc etc.
Get this worked out, I'm wasting my money and it's really starting to suck it. Whole weekend of play time gone now too as I am reinstalling the effing client nullagainnull.
Please at least let us know you are aware of the problem at least.

Edited by: Dhu Kar on 17/05/2009 16:54:27 Just writing to confirm that the 88737 client file reports CRC errors as well.
This is after a fresh install of my OS (Vista 32 Bit), with account management and the internet security disabled.
I don't trust the corruption message - as the older client worked fine on another PC (though sadly too old and crap to run eve). The 88737 file came through the 7zip test fine on my PC. I'll try unpacking manually with 7zip and see if that works - but I expect to get a checksum error. If that doesn't work - I'm going to have to admit defeat.
I just wish CCP would provide some acknowledgement of this issue and a bit of tech help, instead of stonewalling paying subscribers.

Try the new build that's linked in the other (Issues) thread. That didn't work for me either - but you might have more success.
I have 3 PCs at home - my main desktop (which I can't install EVE on because of this issue), an old desktop in the basement (which downloaded and installed the new build without problems) and a brand new eee netbook, which gave me the CRC errors too.
The only difference is that the two PCs are running off a router, and the basement one is plugged directly into the modem.
I could buy the idea that bad memory might be causing the problem on my main PC - but the same thing is happening on another PC on the same connection. I did a RAM upgrade on the eee PC myself recently and it works fine.
Bad RAM might account for one PC not being able to install the client, but two is pushing the bounds of credibility.
My last shot is to try installing via STEAM. That's how I played the game originally - though strangely enough I downloaded the full client from here, because the version on STEAM stopped patching correctly...
STEAM at least allows you to resume downloads - and the error checking should be more robust. Of course if the problem is in the packed .exe file and how it interacts with windows on certain setups, that's probably not going to help. Think positive I guess!
What a circus...
