Finally got a working client downloaded.. ..I used an alternative connection at work and burned it to a dvd. My home connection is a Wireless Router using BT. It may suggest the problem is due to something downstream from CCP.

Update - I was able to get the client working via STEAM. It has its own issue with updates - in that the auto-update process works. But so far the update client files are distributed within 24 hours, and the download rate is pretty fast so it isn't much of a problem.
It is a ****ter to have to redo my fittings list and overview settings though...
I need to start saving them offline or something.

There's no Classic version anymore - they got rid of that after Apocrypha went live. |

I have installed this patch from just about every comment left in this forum but if im lucky enough to find one that works all data is lost after i close game leading to a complete reinstall. I just got this gave a couple days ago and have only played for about an hour the rest of the time ive been downloading repeatedly. This is really stupid for a game you have to pay monthly for. Anyone got some fresh ideas let me know cause I rrrrreeeeeaaaaallllyyy want to play. |

I agree w/ the post couple up. this is absurd for some **** you pay for. been playing since 03 and have never encountered a prob like this w/ the game...or any other game for that matter.
I'm done. and yea, I will give me **** away (which includes a decked out nightmare) if I can ever get the **** in

Your not kidding - wasn't easy to track this down. I've been trying to install EVE on a friends laptop - the online installer (via eve's site) failed so I opted for the less friendly "Steam powered" client in hopes it was a different download source. It seemed to work, but again I had the same results as you did; the app would launch the splash screen then disappear never loading the app fully. In the task manager it would still run and I'd have to kill it there. I spent about 30 min looking through various posts online to see if it was a steam issue or not as it seemed to get all the files and they all checked out compared to my install.
Instead of doing all the extra stuff you mentioned, I went to run the EXE from the steam client direct and got all the error messages about the directx files missing or corrupt as you did. To fix it I simply browsed to the Bin\directx folder in the client I obtained through steam - ran that setup in the folder and BAM, problem fixed.
I don't know why the steampowered installed is to ******ed to launch the directx setup as it apparently has a few special files for eve above and beyond the normal directx client that the game needs. Oh well, perhaps someday they will fix it... but I seriously doubt it.
Its your comment below that gave me the idea
Originally by: eisbrescher I'm in again, and let me tell you it wasn't easy, but it is possible.
7B. I tried to launch EVE using Steam and as I mentioned, the splash screen would appear, then pause and close. (very annoying)
7C. I navigated directly to the CCP EVE directory to try again: "c:\program files\ccp\eve\eve.exe"
9. The aforementioned file is obviously a DirectX file (so says google.com). At any rate, the file was located inside on of the .cab files, which are located within the DirectX folder, or here: "c:\program files\ccp\eve\bin\directx\"

Edited by: Xpiral on 25/07/2009 14:22:59 I just reinstalled eve cause i activated my account and i played one time and now when i try to play i get verification failed cause the crc of the**** is not the same. I'll try reinstalling the game again but nothing happened to my pc since I've installed it so i hope it does not happen again. or better yet i'll try unpacking with 7zip over the install.

If I didn't love your game so much, I'd be tempted to hunt you all down right now.
So the results of the miraculous 'now it will patch!' story: Download ran fine. Extraction Error, with the oh so ever useless message of "Extraction Error. There has been an error in extraction. Please try manual patch"
Which I'd love to except for 2 things. The patching did get far enough to replace EVE.exe, just nothing else AND of the 12GB I had free on my HDD, the 1.9GB patch somehow took up 11.97GB so that now I have 27MB free and not enough room to extract anything from the manual patch.
Uninstalling and reinstalling from brand new build now.
Note to CCP: Consider actyaully developing a PATCH rather than requiring hundreds of your customers to completely reinstall everytime you want to show off new shinies. Cause it's getting realllly old and Really FRUSTRATING!
For what it's worth... I had the same problem, and here's how i (seem to have) fixed it.
I wanted to save settings and such so i kept those files where they were when i uninstalled the client. Reinstalling in the same place resulted in the above mentioned error. The problem was gone when I deleted old files from the directory where EVE was formerly installed.
Hope this works for ppl that might have this problem in the future.

Edited by: TR Hunter on 10/08/2009 00:20:37 I see this issue started back in March and it is still happening today. I had an issue with Eve crashing then a message about it being corrupt. I uninstalled Eve as well as all hidden files and folders. Ran chkdsk /f /r to check for any harddrive issues then did a defrag. I have now downloaded the client 18 times using the on-line, the off-line and the bit torrent download options. Each and every time I get a crc error when trying to extract. I have tried saving the file to different locations as well. I even tried getting 7up to do the test and extract with and still get file errors. After each download I make sure I clean everything up that was downloaded and do a restart.
Any suggestions as to how to get an uncorrupted client download from somewhere?
