I have so-far downloaded the full client 11 (yes ELEVEN!!!!!) times now.
9 times I downloaded from ccp's servers and every time I ended up with a corrupt download.
2 times I downloaded from a mirror that had nothing to do with CCP that I found in these forums. Guess what? Both these downloads were perfect. (I downloaded the second time to make sure it was not a fluke)
My conclusion is use a mirror if you can find one as CCP's server is borked. Sorry, I was going to give a link to a mirror but someone seems to have deleted the threads.

Originally by: Ben Derindar This happens to many people. I've had to re-do all my colours, overview settings etc pretty much every major patch going back to Exodus 4.5 years ago. Yeah it's annoying, but often new options are added with each patch so you'd probably want to be making changes to your existing settings anyway.
So no offense, but harden up.
/Ben
Harden up, hah. Yeah it's been this way since DAY 1 of patching EVE, i get it, and I've done it. I'm "up to the task" and hard enough for task, as I have been every release that required it but it shouldn't be that way if you know how to deploy software properly, and that's my point, Hardy McHardinpants. Your 'well i'll just suck it up because they suck, that's the right thing to do' attitude is part of the problem, not the solution. "harden up" to the fact that this is trivial work with respect to software delivery and they screw it up, every time, without exception, at our expense.
Whatever , i figured out a way around the uninstall 'workaround' and managed to get the update working through piecing together the craptacular updates and I'm back in now. And thankfully for all involved also out of these forums until the next epic CCP "deployment"
But you're right, it's a step up from hosing people's PC's so I guess it's a matter of just accepting that they're a cut rate deployment team with good game designers and developers. Remind me not to hire you.
I got news for ya pal, you ain't leadin' but two things right now, Jack and *hit... ...and Jack left town. |

I finally got my "Windows" client to work. I am posting this to help everyone else out, because being away from the game for 3 days of corrupted downloads was just plain bogus. The "Windows" bit torrent actually worked me. The address is here:
http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe-downloader.exe
Only problem is that the normal downloads where taking me about an hour. The bit torrent is a much much slower download, coming in at about 10 hours. Just a heads up, but it worked.
Good Luck to All.

CCP you are useless,
1) i tryied the torrent downloader nothing that i have expected i expected it to be an actual torrent file not a client, ps: your client is useless. 2) http downloader sucks
i like downloaded 4 times with torrent downloader, no luck corrupted, ok, tryied like 3 times with http, useless, failed checksum, ok, this time it downloaded fine and passed checks, instaled fine when i start? Guess what..... CCP ExeFile has encountered a problwm and needs to close. We are sorry for an inconvinience.
pff, your servers are ****, ps, thx for the above link from piratebay i'l try that at least its a torrent and i can use my torrent client with error checking meaning if one part is corrupt i dont have to download the whokle 1.9 gig again.
AGAIN: CCP, YOU ARE USELESS BUNCH OF .......... I sometimes wonder what am i paying for, and why that much.

Might have a solution to the issue of the ExeFile crashinmg on start of eve online, when you have the file (EVE_Premium_Setup_84244_m.exe) DO NOT i repeat DO NOT run it, instead use winzip or winrar to open it, you will see 2 files. one is 7zip one is exe, extract both into one folder then run the exe file that you have extracted. That is of course if you manage to get the file in one piece, i downloaded it from the piratebay, there was like 1.37mb discarded, so you see that just 1.37mb will screw up whole download if you dont use proper torrent client. This should help some of you.

to round up the flaming i might add some more:
CCP, try to do something called 'standard'! When downloading a TEMPORARY file, this one belongs to the TEMP folder (ever heard of it?), not in "Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\EVE\Downloads" where it has nothing to do! Or at least make it selectable!
I don't know how you handle this at your location, but the rest of the world, and even Microsoft, uses the TEMP folder.
Guys, this is veeeeery poor programming.
BTW, not all players have 1.5 gig free on drive C:. That's where a relocated TEMP folder comes in handy.
Apologizing every time something goes wrong (and it does when it comes to EVE patching) is one thing, doing it right the next time is another. Obviously you stick to the first. People are bored of hearing apologies because you mess up the client patching every time and waste hours and hours into trying to download the patch.

I, like some others, am having a "splash and crash" problem since Apocrypha. Frankly, it feels like I've been taking it in the wormhole for the last day-and-a-half.
Initial patch = great, logged in for a quick check Wed night = seemed okay. 2 days later Friday night - try to sign in - splash screen pops up, then goes away, no log in screen ever appears. I can see Eve working on my task manager when it's booting up, but then the program seems to quit.
Did total Eve reload per this: http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1020574
No luck. Same issue of Splash and Crash.
Ran Log Server (which keeps running in the background long after Eve splashes and crashes), but seems to be in some sort of loop.
Read Log Server messages. I see a red stop sign (EVE Client version 6.1 build 84244 started 03/14/2009 0:22:07) and a skull and crossbones (EVE Client version 6.1 build 84244 started 03/14/2009 0:22:07). Those can't be good.
A few lines later in the log led me to a Eve forum post from a while ago:
***
Edited by: Sheila Chandra on 18/08/2007 17:24:02 GOT IT !!!!
It was the missing arialuni.ttf. I downloaded it from the internet and installed, now its working.
Originally by: Sheila Chandra --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Failed to start service fonts (bin\blue.dll) Probably just a font file missing that is used in the launchpad?? One line above it tries to open "arialuni.ttf", i looked into windows/fonts but couldnt find the file there. This error occurs 3 times in the log.
***
I checked my LogServer messages from 2 different "splash and crashes" and this is what I found in both (after the stop signs and skeleton symbols):
Open C:\WINDOWS\Fonts/arialuni.ttf Found fallbackfont: C:\WINDOWS\Fonts/arialuni.ttf Open C:\WINDOWS\Fonts/arialuni.ttc Service fonts required 0.007 seconds to startup
Then the logs just seem to loop.
I looked in my C:\Windows\Fonts - I found the arialuni.ttf, but didn't see a arialuni.ttc . Thought that if I could find and install an arial unicode.ttc font file, I could fix the issue.
Did an internet search and seems I can't find a arialuni.ttc (Arial Unicode TrueType Compressed Font).
Does this kind of file exist? Will this fix my problem? Am I barking up the wrong tree? Will I ever see wormhole space?
Thanks in advance for any help.

I have downloaded new version FOUR times now. The shortest took 9 hours, the longest took 16 hours. That's a LOT of time to waste. Errors each and every time. Checksum bad. I love this game and would like to continue. Isn't there some way to get the download by CD/DVD? Please???? Don' want to have to quit.

I wonder if the real culprit of the splash and crash is this security update from microsoft (I have auto-updates set to yes). I was successful signing into Eve at first. These 3 auto-security updates came March 11. They seem to be server related. Maybe another piece of the puzzle. I dunno - just a shot in the dark.

OMG... i sure hope that at least CCP has given an employee the task of reading all these posts.
*note to CCP Reader* call someone from EA Games or Blizzard... their patching software is top notch and being that EA (for the WAR game) was able to purchase the software from Blizzard (from their WoW game) they might be interested in selling it to yall too *End not to CCP Reader*
so ive decided to take a little break from EvE to go try my hand at Warhammer Online. hopefully they will fix the patching software soon... my skill stoped training
wasted me 15 days of game time

Looking at the numbers of players on the servers last night, it is clear that the patch has worked for most people. Sadly, I remain one of those it does not work for, apparently due to the size of the download needed to patch. Obviously, if I cannot play, I am not going to pay.
I do suggest the following to CCP. Consider smaller, more frequent upgrades. Recognizing that a lot of publicity goes with new releases, try pushing out a lot of the code in the weeks before, but do not activate it. When the big day comes, the actual download is smaller, avoiding some of this sort of problem. Obviously you have done the math and know that an expansion gets you more new players than you lose, so it is only logical to do it. However, it would be great to lose less customers.
Second, offer a clearly documented alternative to using the client to download the patch. You are going to get people it does not work for and they are going to want to do something about it. Make it easier for us.
A seven hour download at the 56 bit connection you suggest in the specs is too damn big.

This is really getting ridiculous. After I have downloaded the whole 1.9 GB package for about 8 times, only to find out it failed the CRC again, I finally managed to download it via torrent an was able to successfully install it.
Then I start a mission and crash to desktop as soon as I get locked on, so I finish the mission on my Mac (first install a success over there, absolutely no problem with the Mac client). Back to the PC to change to the salvage vessel - crash! I decide to delete the install dir, all registry entries and all user preferences for EVE and to start from scratch, and not the very install that worked yesterday gives me a CRC fail too! *insert swearword here*
I don't even want to know how many GB of download I've wasted... It is almost 1 week now, when will CCP be able to give us a working download?

Patch failed so I went with full install. Well it took only 22 hrs to download the full install. WHAT A FRIGGIN JOKE! C'MON CCP: IT'S 2009, not 1980! GET WITH THE PROGRAM! USE A DL mechanism that is capable of dividing up this huge download so we don't have to start all over in case of a failure for whatever reason during DL! I DL at 4-24KB/sec using an aircard. Get a mirror site up or something! Why is it taking so long to get a workaround for DL'ing???? Don't you guys have any fallback plans in case of issues? What is plan B? Ignore the minority of folks who have DL issues and can't play, but still pay??? Took me 2 days to finally get the game up and running only to find that the graphics are behaving very very weird. Most objects seem to have a bunch of thick lines coming out of them. These lines have a tendency to fill up the entire screen and I can't see any object. I've played with the graphic settings (beleive me, hours were spent trying this and that) The only thing that seems to somewhat work is to set shader LOW and Texture HIGH and leave almost all of the boxes unchecked. My system obviously meets the standards required, so why do I have these issues after the DL? I used to be able to run up to 3 clients on my pc, now I can only run 1, and thats not even working properly. And I don't want to spend another 24 hours DL'ing the game and let it hog my pc. I updated my video drivers and reinstalled directx9.0c and no significant change was seen. I think the programmers did a great job with the game, I just wish I could play it like I was able to before the patch. SO PLEASE DO SOMETHING TO FIX THE ISSUES. FOREMOST LET US KNOW YOU CARE BY ACKNOWLEDGING THE ISSUES AND POSTING SOMETHING ON YOUR FORUM INDICATING WHAT THE PLANS ARE TO RESOLVE THE DL ISSUES.
I know someone is reading these forums because of some blocking that has occured by the moderator, so why not just post what the plans are to resolve the issue???

CCP how's about talking to us, so lets say u give us free gametime then what about the 18GB/s of my monthly allowence? what about compensation for my time thats been wasted? hows about handing over isk that i might have made in game if i was to get that far?

no i cant even get a chance to click the movie cos it says i do not have the minimum spec required to run shadow 2 graphics, i was hoping there is something in the properties file that will make it not load the movie before i click it...other than that its just the same warning as before your system does not have the minimum ect ect. As for a new pc cant afford to buy a new one. Especially in recession times when work is scarce and i am working only part time. It all equals to no money to buy a new system to play eve....but then again why would CCP not understand that people do not have the money to buy new hardware or new appliances to run their game. Go back to the old graphics and LET ME BACK IN.... I WANNA BE SHOOTING PPL YARRRARRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!

You need to see the other thread stickied in these forums about Shader2 and read the blog. Basically, your video card is too old to play the game. I'm in the same situation. Card is too old - computer is too old for newer cards (I have 7 year old GeForce 3, 512M ram, 1.4 GHz cpu). Yes, I need a new system to play the game, but I am now unemployed since last Wednesday so it's hard to justify spending the money for a new machine.

That 7zip method didnt work for me. What did work was stealing my brothers laptop which had no eve resiue on the hd. I installed the game there, uninstalled it on my computer, I then shared the game on the network and downloaded to my computer (the installed files, not the installer) This works and I'm in the game 7 days after the patch came out.
