Originally by: Knaar First of all, I am a linux user. I know you abandoned us, but as explained in the forums, we weren't using the official linux version, as Wine runs EVE just fine. Cedega is evil, what with their charging subscription fees for free software. You should have just hired some wine developers to fix wine so it runs EVE really well.
Okay, rant done, the autopatcher failed saying it needed BITS. I spent 3 hours this morning trying to get BITS to work in wine. Long story short I think I totally pooched my wine before I gave up. The manual patch failed requiring BITS. The link to the manual download crashed wine. The full installer required BITS. This all ****es me off.
I think I've found a work around and I'm half done downloading the RTP for the patch that required BITS. I'm hoping it won't try to use BITS if it already has the RTP file.
But seriously, if I wasn't the type of person to try really hard to fix things myself without help, I would have already submitted a petition and demanded 3 months of free play for my inconvenience. Always make the alternatives obvious please.
If you had been watching the LINUX SECTION posts, you would have known how to update with little issue prior to posting here.
This link: Linux Section Patch Info has the proper FULL patch links for the rtp included patches plus how to use them.
Also for you windows users needing the combined patches, the links in that post will work for you as well as we linux users are now back on the pure "windows" client under wine. Just fyi!

So, I do expect a free day or two added to my subscription for this patch B.S. I will eventually find a link to the patch, but I should not have to go through this much work just to play a game I pay monthly for.

Any chance we can get an update on why the autopatcher isn't even prompting to update. I just wasted 1.3 GB downloading the full client only to find it's totally the wrong version.

I had to download the patch/game three times.
The first time, I downloaded the 1.4gb patch through the auto-updater and I got a wrong version error. The second time, I downloaded the full client and it gave me an md5sum error.
I uninstalled the game (originally from Steam), re-downloaded the full client from the website (now 3rd time), rebooted my computer, and it finally worked. I forgot to back up my files so I lost my Overview Settings.
Hope this helps someone~

Originally by: Jredd I downloaded the patch just fine but don't have the shader 2.0. Do I download premium lite as I would the shader?
You cannot play eve with no shader model 2. You cannot download the software to run this, you need a newer graphics cards. A shader model 2 card should be less than $50 so it wont be expensive and you pc will run faster :)

WTF??? My client will not ATTEMPT to download the patch, and I'm not going to read 1,000 pages of forums to try to figure it out. I did download the bulk data seperately, no problem there, but COME ON!!! Give me a "download patch" link or something, sheesh!!! I feel like a complete moron staring at the login screen just hoping it will start to download the patch. One thing I know for sure: I'd be fired if I screwed up this big at my job!

I'm not even concerned about the problem itself- I know they'll figure it out eventually- but the completely lack of response is ridiculous.

When i downloaded the patch, as it tried to install, it threw up an error about it being unable to patch. It was 2 lines of red text.
I got around this, buy doing the following!
Goto: C:\Documents and Settings\YOURUSERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility\cache
Note, YOURUSERNAME is the user of the account your on.
Inside this folder there is a patch file for the version you want.
Run it, it will do some strange things with errors, and will skip a few things, and then install.
I had to do this with both patches, but they installed perfectly, have been playing Eve since, no issues!

20/20 hindsight:
seed the full client to bitserver the day before you take down the server; or at a minimum the minute you take the server down.

Why not use bit torrent, or split the patch up into manageable chunks, or host it on other websites, or BUY MORE BANDWIDTH!!!!!!1!!!1!1111!!!1! This was a huge error on your part.
I do not complain often and usually like what you do however this is just stupid. I know between all the years of college and all the experience in running a company someone could have brought these ideas up in one of the meetings you have had about this expansion.
Well see everyone in eve in 10 hours
and yes I have DSL, it is not the best but I should be getting 500-650KBPS instead of a WHOPPING 80KBPS

I will try to be the 50 year old voice of reason here....
Patches can be screwy with new deployment, that is a given. I would hope CCP would learn from this deployment fiasco and seed multiple downloads across many, many servers including bit torrent and the other suggestions. Waiting almost 10 hours to download 3 times to have all fail for "verification" is a frustration I will leave to your Nordic imagination.
Please provide a suitable fix/patch for your customer base...we have waited long and have supported you in a tough economy.
Thank you.

What gives you the idea that they put it on a single server? All of the links they've given, http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net, use the domain llnwd.net which is the domain of one of the largest content distribution networks in the world. LimeLight networks (the guys who own the llnwd.net domain) have hundreds of points of presence and entire data centers spread out across multiple continents. They are as far away from "a single server" as you could possibly be. My company uses them to distribute updates for a product of ours, and we don't have these types of issues.

This is unbelievable. It is not that the autopatcher isn't working for some people...like me. It is the fact that providing the downloads to the patches to apply manually on the web site are not available. I don't mind a long download time, but how do you not have the patches ready to download and apply manually. I have been playing EVE for 3 1/2 years and this is the biggest botch I have seen yet. To top it all off, there is no clear communication that there is an issue. I love this game, but am getting seriously close to canceling both of my accounts. Some other forums say to go and submit a Bug report, well I did that and no response.
So to the point of this. The message I am replying to says there are speed and file verification issues. There are people that can't even receive, connect to or download any type of patch. If I was making any type of progress I would not be posting.
FYI, I am running the latest version 75883, which worked yesterday, on Windows Vista.

The 'link' I gave isn't to a specific file, its the domain thats hosting the updates files. The update is here http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/evepremiumpatch84063-84244.exe
The domain itself, ccp.vo.llnwd.net, maps out to hundreds of machines all over the world. You can easily test this from your own computer by running "host ccp.vo.llnwd.net" in the terminal of a Linux or OS X machine, or "ping ccp.vo.llnwd.net" on Windows. The IP address you get back should be the closest datacenter to you.
For instance, here in Masschusetts: Oneiroi:~ tedivm$ host ccp.vo.llnwd.net ccp.vo.llnwd.net has address 208.111.128.7 ccp.vo.llnwd.net has address 208.111.128.6
Or in Texas: tedivm@eris:~$ host ccp.vo.llnwd.net ccp.vo.llnwd.net has address 68.142.122.70 ccp.vo.llnwd.net has address 68.142.123.254

Sevarus, if this works you rule. But still the problem remains, why was the location of these downloads just not posted right up on Eve's main website? Would that have been so difficult? NO, but they didn't bother to do that. Why even rely on the forums? This is just bad business sense.

Please put a complete Windows client 84244 on the Eve client downloads page. The network installer version was a bad choice for at least two reasons:
1) Many of us have multiple machines to update. Downloading the Apochrypha client once and applying it multiple times would be better for everyone.
2) Some of us do not have broadband access where we play. We can usually manage a high speed download by using network access at a friend's or at work, but a 2 Gigabyte download over dialup is going to take well over 80 hours, if it can be accomplished at all.
This is something you can, and should, correct within the next day. The issues of applying multiple patches to achieve an upgrade and network-based installation are completely separable.

OK after 4 failed downloads all of different types (autopatcher failed and refused to retry - incompatible version; downloaded full client - not the current version; 2 attempts at following the links in this thread) I have about 200mb left on my monthly data allowance and won't even be able to play letalone patch for the rest of the month.
How do I go about getting a refund / my sub extended by a month?

Well, I log in and the client just says 'incompatible'. I re-installed the latest client- still unresponsive. In fact, I'm having a hard time finding links to 'Apocrypha' patches- all I seem to find are patches for Quantum Rise upgrades.

Well this is rediculous. The client doesn't even offer to autopatch, and the download pages (both the full client and patch download pages) only allow you to download the old client. Is there really even a new client?

Originally by: Lavoslav Penkala I had problems with autopatcher not starting to download at all. After waiting for sorry ass ******* to finaly crawl out of their holes and address us users on how to correct this issue for over 12h I took the matters into my own hands. Sorted the thing by downloading the patches by hand myself and running them manualy:
http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/evepremiumpatch75883-84244_m.exe This one is 1.3GB gets you the new Apo-epic-patch-fail splash screen and got my client to 83913 version, then
http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/evepremiumpatch83913-84244_m.exe This one is 13.23Mb and made the client the actual version capable of connecting and playing.
Thank you so much for this. Been looking all over the net for this. The autopatcher was averaging at 6-8 kb/s. I'm from the Philippines, but heck, that is uberslow even by the standards of our internet here.
Got those direct links and am now downloading the patches via Orbit Download Manager in firefox. Getting 2 to 4 times the speed of the autopatcher. Right on! :D
At least it cut back the download time. ETA on the autopatcher was a heartbreaking 52-70 hours (even at 32% completed). Now ETA is down to less than a day with the direct file downloads.
Thanks again.
