To those who are still keeping it constructive, thanks, and we are working! We aren't asking for heads on a spike here (yet), we want stuff working at least as well as before "winferno" went live. If customers demanding a quality product is "vitriolic hate" to you then you are in the wrong business. If you wish to avoid such reactions you should really think before you and release beta products onto your production server. Your current implementation still does not meet standards. The fact your teams have been working so hard after release shows just how much additional work is still needed to make it a half way presentable product. If you really want people to stop being so upset, you are going to need to make amends. Simply fixing the system to the point it SHOULD have been at on the day it went live, is not doing this, its least amount of effort. Offering discount resubscriptions is likely to earn some partial good will. But why are we paying at all to do your beta work? I can say you wont be getting another dime out of me (or the vast majority of my corp either) until this is brought back up to a satisfactory level of interaction and performance. I wish you were speaking for everyone but a fair section of the reponses, even just in this thread, have gone beyond the boundaries of respectability. Customers demanding a quality product is fine, customers demanding hard working peoples' jobs, or calling their personal integrity, skill and commitment into question, isn't in my book. As to the current implementation, that has been addressed numerous times throughout this thread and in the dev blog that the thread comes from so I won't repeat myself and others further.
Hi, this comes from a developer who shares your pain and has to deal with costumers like this everyday also.
I've been following these threads, let me say this, you are giving too much talk to these folks, half are trollers the other half are hatters, don't give them wood for their fires. Make your informative posts, say what you have to say on them then stop until you have more information to give. Don't justify your actions, don't argue with these people, just ignore the hate posts, read the ones that are construtive and move on.
At one time I said CCP didn't come to the foruns, now I say you are speaking too much, you don't have to justify your actions/job to us, the clients, you only need to do that to your boss. Much less discuss and explain to us development details and justify why things are done internally, that is not discussable with a client. Give the clients the information they need to know. If, after that, they complain, don't say anything else. Complains are reported to the boss and its the boss who deals with them.
PS: and if you are the boss, then if I were you, I rest my case until I had more information to give out. |

I for one would greatly appreciate an inside view of the decision making process. I've considered logging into SISI to check out upcoming features and provide my input -- but as it seems that any feedback given about SISI is ignored, what incentive do I have to do so? I'll talk to some people about getting a/some devblog(s) written about our development processes and go into what you asked for. Don't fall into this trap of thinking that Sisi feedback is ignored though - plenty of feedback received on Sisi results in changes being made and plenty is taken on board but not implemented, for good and for bad. Look at the recent Incursion rebalancing and the continual input Affinity and team Five-0 had from seasoned incursion runners - they made a number of iterations based on that feedback.
I too would like to see a devblog on that if it's possible.
Is there some way you could get a similar feedback stream up and running for the various use cases of the UI? For example, miners would know to submit their feedback in x thread or send to x person, salvagers would submit their feedback to x thread or send to x person, etc. I don't know if that would be easier or harder than forum wrangling in general, but would it be helpful if it was at least divided up so you knew that people with tons of items were mostly affected by performance, salvagers were most often affected by rogue windows, and so on and so forth? |

CCP will never learn from their mistakes. A majority of the community are more than fine being beta testers for shoddy features. This is why CCP doesn't care. As long as people continue to pay why would they?
I for one firmly believe if I'm paying for a game I should not be testing their product, or hunting down bugs for them. I should be enjoying my time playing the game. Isn't that what a game is for after all?
Testing should only occur on SiSi. Thats what SiSi is supposed to be for. However, in order for SiSi testing to actually make a difference the Devs MUST listen to the testers. Tippia and several others gave them more than enough feedback on the issues with this new feature. The problem is the Devs are arrogant and do not listen to feedback from their testers. That was obvious when one of the Devs posted about not listening to their feedback.
The only time the Devs care about our thoughts is when they dump a shoddy product on us and we light the torches and flame them here on the forum. Once people unsub is when they care. That unfortunately is the only time they care. Less people are flaming them on the forums now, so this is why they are going back to the hum drum workings at their offices. It is a direct result of the complacency of the community.
All of you can see that CCP has not learned their lesson from incarna. Did you expect anything different? I cancelled all my subs and this one expires in a couple days. I am debating on whether or not to get an in game plex with isk to monitor this debacle for another month. One thing is certain, until this game is fixed I will not open my wallet and give them another penny.
The few of you calling people whiners on here need to take a step back and look at the situation. People are upset that an unfinished product was thrust upon us. We are paying them to test their product. Therefore, of course people are upset. This new UI is crippling those who do industry and manage massive amounts of assets (im not an industrialist), and it is a major blow to guys that salvage their missions. Looting is atrocious. Anything asset related lags with this new UI. This and the lack of the old functionality of the old UI is why people are upset.
It is even more disheartening when we are promised a patch to get this working properly every week until old functionality is restored. We got a couple patches and are now told to basically suck it up for a few more weeks because we want to work on other features. Makes me wonder how bad those features are going to be and whether or not CCP will actually listen to the guys that decide to test the features on SISI for them. After all CCP didn't listen to the testers on this new feature and all of us are paying the price for it.

There are two issues that makes people go "vitriolic".
1) In the past you released many unfinished / buggy features but those were just bugs.
This time is the very fundamental design that is done wrong. SCRUM allows for quick and decently easy refactoring, but cannot help when the design choices are just wrong.
It's not enough to write the tests, somewhere down the line you have also to think about the design and how it will affect the users.
2) When the beta testers provided feedback you programmers thought to know better than end user.
This is a problem I have seen in 20 years of career many, many times. You have to step down off the "I am dev" throne and listen to the puny end users. Some of them could be totally illitterate but you'll see them using the legacy software at blazing speed and could teach you optimized use cases you never thought about.
Both of the above issues are usually caused by junior software engineers, I'd honestly like to know how a senior could give the deploy authorization. Auditing | Collateral holding and insurance | Consulting | PLEX for Good Charity

In this particular case then the frequent Inferno 1.0.x releases are starting to press against the staging process of the next main deployment.
We were planning to stage Inferno 1.1.x on 6 June but have pushed that back to 7 June to give the team working on the Unified Inventory all the time possible for updates of Inferno 1.0.x, before we must create the staging branch for Inferno 1.1.x to allow the teams working on that release to finalise their deployment. There are then going to be more updates to Unified Inventory in Inferno 1.1.x as CCP Soundwave detailed in the dev blog. So is this the real reason the new Inventory was initially PUSHED onto TQ? I understand and appreciate that you have in house dealines, but you seem to not be understanding that your customers would prefer a fully functional system before you try to work on something new. Unless i've misread most of the feedback given in all the major threadnaughts thus far. This is not the reason. We honestly thought we were ready.
Honestly thought you're READY? Despite the feedback on SiSi? you gotta be pulling our leg... can't you really tell Unified Inventory have some issues before you deployed it on TQ, or you're just acting as if nothing is wrong to meet a deadline? |

CCP Goliath: You want that we calm down. Understandable! But to calm down; WE ALL need something from you.. a clear word WHAT fantastic improvements CCP will re implement or new invent. You have to understand that a simple phrase like "We listen to you.." or "We will improve the UI a little bit more.." is just not enough. Give us something .. something more than a empty clich+¬. Give us a clear direction where we can see which way CCP is going. The best would be the current list of the planned improvements. NOT a hightech masterplan with all details; just some REAL functions what you are planning to implement in this, at present, terrible unified UI. MOST of us want just the 100% copy of the old UI. Perhaps 100% is not possible. But give us a hint how near you want to come to the old UI.
- Will it be possible to have hundreds of seperate windows again? Seperate windows with seperate informations leads to a massive reduces calculation work and therefore less lag. - Can we have ALL our former options in the right click menue back? An easy to install functionality; but important for the community. - Will it be possible again to open cargo containers; wrecks and ships within a several window per simple double click at this container? And please abandon every try to implement a further mysterious shortcut with 'SHIFT + X'
If you have a closer look to ALL of the former statements from CCP, you will clearly see that not one of them will explain what will be CCP's next steps. A little bit less lag here; some mysterious improvements there.. Nothing substantial just empty words.
Come on CCP. You can do it better (I think). Bring more facts into this discussion. WHAT functions can we await with the next main patch? If you just say "Improvements" and "Some great stuff" you can bet that a lot of people have another view of Improvements and greats stuff.. and might be very disappointed about your (hard) work. The next rage would be pre-programmed. We should calm down? Than you must deliver facts. Its just as simple. I can't play EVE at present. Because of THIS: http://i50.tinypic.com/2ez1wz4.jpg |

When you guys release stuff that doesn't work, and you ignore tester feedback, this is what happens. We didn't originate this issue, CCP did. People are pissed because you guys made a series of compound mistakes (bad enough) and you ignored your most passionate users (much worse). You might not like how people are expressing it, but these tough words from people still subscribed are better for you and CCP than mass unsubscribes. It's not about people motivating you to work. You're missing an essential part of understanding relationships. People are venting. We have very low expectations for you guys. We are simply expressing our frustration with that state of affairs the only way we can, short of unsubscribing. The way you make this stop, is to fix the problem, not to lecture us on our tone. Our tone isn't the problem with the inventory. What I think CCP misses, is that people like Tippia represent us much better than the CSM does, and we (the players) know it. So when you ignore her, you ignore us. And no one likes being in a relationship where they feel (right or wrong) that they are being ignored.

Hm.. Chokichi Ozuwara. Now that you said this I think you are right. I have to ask; what was the statement from the CSM (at whole or in parts) concerning this UI again? Was there any? Do they have a own opinion concerning this unified UI issue?

one minor improvement request: please make item selections persist across window resizing. sorry if this came up before.
what happens to me all the time is that i dock up with loot, doubleclick to get my ships cargobay open, select all the loot i want to drop off, unselect my ammo and whatever i want to keep, and then notice that the tree view isnt open... i think you can guess what happens next ;)
i know i can work around it with alt-g, its would just be more convenient if you could resize a window or open/close the tree view and have the selection in the open folder carry over.

This is exactly the problem.
People are justifiably upset. We spend a lot of time and our money to play this game so we're going to get a bit narky with you when the proverbial hits the fan. Is some of the vitriol being flung at you acceptable, probably not (and I've been guilty of some serious flinging over this). Is it understandable? Absolutely.
A lot of us gave up the time to test this on Sisi and the overwhelming opinion was that is was a shoddy and ill conceived notion and shouldn't go anywhere near TQ.
You've all said you listened to the feedback and I've no reason to doubt you. But you didn't act upon it. Thats the important distinction to be made here. The proof of you not acting on it is the fact it appeared on TQ, when it wasn't even close to ready.
Is anyone going to come out and admit that in hindsight releasing this to TQ when it didn't work was very, very bad call and should never have happened till it did work? |

Actually it does. It shows the measure of negativity associated with Inferno's UI feature. The more vitriol you get from the users, the more it points to faulty decision making or process - from both the low level and high level stakeholders. Infact, if you get more than enough of it, the issue gets the attention of the higher levels. It's the standard escalation path for nearly all companies.
Now, you or CCP at this point in time is in no position to bemoan the heavy flak from players. They wasted a lot of their time wrestling with the broken UI, you'd think many would be happy to write constructively? This thing was clearly broken from inception and you don't need me to tell you that as a professional in your work - because you're already aware it was broken. Many of us is/were professionals in their own right, it's not exactly rocket science to deduce/see where it went wrong.
Stop antagonizing the players because it makes you look very bad. Years from now, a dev who posted moronically will be remembered.

Believe it or not customers are SUPPOSED to complain like this when disasters like this happen. Failure to do so leaves you lot thinking we are content with the current staff's management abilities and descision making. WE ARE NOT! Obviously.
I see by your sig that you are in QA. How did even one tenth of this UI disaster make it past you? Yes you personally CCP Goliath! How? With all the feedback from the test server and your own personal experiences (I'm assuming you actually fired up the client and tried it out), how did you, CCP Goliath, not send it back to the designers and declare it not acceptable?
Running a company is about much much more than drinking coffee and laughing at customers that complain (this is how most of us see the current managment of CCP). This especially applies to the higher-ups who ultimately own the responsibility of the screw ups under them. This is how it works in a corporate environment. Don't believe me? Look it up.
Why do I even have to explain this stuff to a company as big as CCP?
We need someone in charge of the whole operation that is concerned with the final product. Teams of employees (be it devs, QA people, testers, or even an entire company) are only as good as their leaders who direct their efforts.
As far as I'm concerned Hilmar is still fired and I'd LOVE the job. I'm not kidding. You'll never find another person who cares more about Eve. Send me the paperwork and I'll be on the next plane. I'm THAT serious! CCP, I understand that "To err is human", but it shouldn't be the company motto... |

I'm trying to be optimistic about this but it is extremely difficult. Personally I feel the hate for this unified inventory as much as everybody else but I also know that throwing a hissyfit isn't going to work. You're trying. A lot of us get that but your fixing the things we don't even care about.
All I want is to be able to have a seperate window for my hangars open and pinned so that the only person who can move it is me, not the game. It's a similar situation with salvaging, I want wrecks to open in a seperate window, and after hitting loot all, i want them to close, not revert back to the cargohold which i already have opened on the other side of the screen. Anything else that comes is a bonus.
If you can do this you will have my respect again. If you can't then I have 1 billion isk in assets ready for my 2 accounts to go inactive for a few months which I really don't want to have to do. |

Just a quick post here. What I belief will be most helpful for a mission runner like me is:
1) The ability to select a whole bunch of salvaged items from the inventory, right click it, and select "Sell Selected Items:
2) From "Sell Selected Items" menu, the ability to check the : "Sell if xxx% more then market value", "Do not sell if xxx% below market value"
3) A review menu (like the contract menu) to do a final look see if all the items selected are what I want to sell.
This will definitely make selling a whole bunch of salvage easier, especially when the haul is 300 items and above... :) |

Nice!
Honestly, if you add the ship hanger and item hanger back, it will go a long way to making this system as easily usable as the last one. You'd probably want different icons for them though and not the generic one we get now cause if you have hanger bay, drone bay and cargo bay all open at the same time, having to hover/click and figure out which is which will add another source of frustration.

From what I hear, people have brought this up during SiSi feedback, but little was done. Iteration is not a dirty word, I look forward to the performance fixes! Got 'roids? |

I just typed a long-winded, heartfelt and thought-out diatribe about how awful the "unified inventory" idea and implementation was, and clicked "preview" to see the IGB totally throw the message away.
Maybe you should fix that instead of the terrible UI crap that needs to be flushed into space and shot into the sun. |

This was also present on containers. Can that number be restored? It's a great visual indicator of 1. how much stuff I have in a certain location, 2. If stacking is taking place, and 3.when I hit the 1000 items per container limit.
If this could be added to the Index tree per ship/hangar/container without having too much of a performance impact that would be nice too.
already there - just open your eyes and look around the UI for the new position of such info No I am not going give you any more hints you lazy *$&%^ -- LOL I know it's there, but I want it on the top level view, without clicking on the containers.
so set up tabs then. It's a little extra work but you CAN do it. you can even save out your UI set up and transfer to to other players can't you? Why dust 514 is on Console and not PCBattle field 3 salesXbox 360: 2.2 millionPlayStation 3: 1.5 millionPC: 500,000 |

I found something missing in the new Unified Inventory:
When I jettison cargo, the can should automatically be added to my tree view. |
