I would like to know who does the ETA estimates for CCP. 
The downtime is always way, way longer than anticipated. Maybe throwing in a variable like 1.5 in front of the equation would save a lot of customer angst.

Ohhhhhh sweeet I'm finally in! Dude this Primae has special Primae Premeire Resource Extractors that let you harvest planetary material directly! AWESOME!!!! you can only harvest 3 kinds at a time apperantly because it only has 3 of them, and has some kind of built in scripts, nice drone bay too! 5meds with room for 1 small spare! very cool! |

so an old bull and a young bull are sitting on a hill top over looking their herd... the young bull looks to his mentor and says ,,hey old man lets run on down their and do us one of them there cows ... the old bull looks long and hard into the young bulls eyes and sighs heavily then speaks ,,, no son how bout we walk on down this hill and do em all !!!!!!!

Don't agree yourself. It depends on the scale of the project being done. And EVE Online isn't the small scale tool you write within a week or two. There are many dependencies that have to be resolved and there may always be some reason for problems occuring. I think this is a thing any professional in IT will know... ;)
It isn't very good that even the downtime prediction of 14:30 UTC did almost pass, but that's the way it is... CCP will manage the server to be running soon. Perhaps a prediction of 15:30 or 16:00 UTS would be more likely. But I can't look into the future, you cannot, and CCP neighter...

The manual patch worked fine for me but now "The cluster is not currently accepting connections".
I'm going to ask my bank to send them the same message when they come asking for the next payment !

Do people from ccp actually play eve, and by that i dont mean try out features on their lonesome, but participate in large 4-6 hours fleets that involve waiting anywhere up to 5 minutes to jump a gate, even when you jump by race ( which is pretty absurd when you think about it, jump by race not ship type!)
And once you jump and wait the customary 2-5 minutes for the grid to load....and you really think a minor little fix that you put in this patch as an afterthought will apply in any way to 'big fleets', when this problem has been shouted at you from every pl;ayer that has to put up with a broken game for a very very long time?
...rant over, btw, its an hour past the 'extended DT' and the server is still not up....

The main issue here is peoples expectations (or addiction  ). If CCP state EVE will be offline for X hours then the players will expect to be able to login in X hours and 1 second!
In my option it would be better for CCP to say EVE is going to be offline for longer (working in any factors that might indeed extend the DT) and then hopefully be able to restore EVE before that time is exceed. This should work towards managing peoples expectations better.
Just my 2 ISK's worth...
