Originally by: Tuco Santeriia I played SWG from Beta until May 2004 and posted as electricnomad on the forums there.
The only character I ever really developed was Zuco Santeriia on Starsider. The PA I was in would stage biweekly attacks on Fort Tusken back when revives were rare and you had to spend 20 minutes walking there through Tusken-infested territory. That was SWG in its prime.
I'd have to guess that I was much better known to players through my posts on the Smuggler forums, though. A number of the former regulars on that forum have given EVE a try, which is how I ended up here.
This is my first try at an MMO since SWG, and I like it so far. I'd really like to find a large, well-established corporation, though, since MMOs are supposed to be about cooperation as far as I'm concerned. Send me an EVEmail if you have any suggestions.
Thanks,

But, its a work in progress.. and its suppoed to be free!?

It won't happen. SOE may not care much about the game or its players but you can bet that they'd shut down a private shard with all due speed and no mercy. You're talking about a major violation of all sorts of licensing. Hell, even if SOE turned a blind eye, Lucas Arts wouldn't.
And I can guarantee they'd never set up such a shard on their own.

Man I hate the NGE! It just missed up everything. I still have a subscription to SWG, because of my friends there, but after 1 day on here I think the time has come to say good bye for good.

(Can't remember my name) of Ahazi reporting, TKM-MSwordsman-Doc4/0/0/0(also Master Marksman, Master brawler, and one box away from MBH before I decided to drop it all and go TK )
I really wanted to stay, but after the NGE I knew it was over (I went to the Theed cantina to find 2 or 3 people there, AFKers included ) Still hoping SOE fixes the game or sells it to a company who can.

I think I quit right around the time Light-Speed came out. I played the original X-Wing game to death though. I actually hunted for it for a while and found it a few weeks ago. I've been spoiled rotten by technology, the graphics were absolutely horrible compared to what we have in EvE. I didn't even finish a single mission before I Shift+Deleted the whole folder. I felt bad for it, I really did.
I'm not into these newer games but I'd love for them to come out with a newer and better flight sim that wasn't designed to follow one of the first three episodes TO THE LETTER. I mean come on, they didn't blow out ALL of their imagination, did they?

Still into SWG atm but we will see for how long. I just can't leave until I find a beter game. I'm seeing how the trial period will go.
But let's see, steps to destroy a game 1. 3 game systems in 3 years 2. Delete my skill set from the game 3. Kill crafters so they can no longer sell anything they make 4. make loot trump everything 5. reward the cry babies on the fourms by taking away any danger in the game so every 12 year old kid with a mouse can be uber 6. destroy the orginal time line and story line that the game is based on by letting 12million jedi run wild with no resitance 7.remove decay so every item last forever
need I go on?
I don't hate SWG but it sure would be nice to find something else, so I have high hopes for my trial here. Wish me luck.

I was on Infinity, Char Polku TerDijk. Had a small and nice Shipwright Buissnes running. Its really sad, i was playing 1 year as the NGE hits and i kinda loved the game, but everytime a new publish got out things gone worse, with the NGE topping it. You all know it, taking away the cool way to dabble you skills, just plain decide what skill you want, having to work to get a jedi (was only half through the village), be able to chat wile in combat...
So after taking a break from MMORPGs and playing a lot of BF2 i stumbled accross a 14 day Trial advertisment, thats just like my SWG carreer started, back when the game was still fun...
Hope the devs here are smart and want to make and keep this a good game and never ever pull something like the NGE off, that was the most stupid thing i ever see a company do, i think i will never understand why they did that, only thing i can think of is they want to get us play other Games and ruin SWG.
So here i am, so far i think i like it, its complex and its huge, thats what i was missing in SWG :)

Having never played SWG I dont really know what your tlking about. but I'm bored at work so read through a couple of pages....
having read some I cant help but make the comparison between you folks and a litter of poor abandoned kittens (sorry if you dont like the annalogy :P)
well! EVEs the equivilent of the RSPCA (prolly a UK only thing sorry :P) :D
so I say: welcome! and enjoy your time here. So far (only been playing for nearly 3 years) EVE's Devs and GM's etc have been the best I've ever seen. the new content they add builds on what was there before, not destroys it. so welcome to the warm cozy fire of EVE online :)
if any have questions mail me in game I'll get round to answering them :)
I will save you, but make sure you bring beer - Wrangler and cAKe - Imaran I thought it was bREe, omgi'mgivingawaymodroomsecwetsftl - Cortes when come back ... bring PIE. Me like PIE. -Capsicum |

I'm started off as my first online adventure in EvE and then rolled ower to DaoC. Made a fast turn on SWG and looped ower City of Heroes. A long test period of WoW and topped that whit Guild Wars. The bookshelf is starting to get crowded.
And now to my own surprice im back att EvE again. Something about this game that i can¦t explain. ___________________________________________________________ "Deep in space and you scream in swedish, would anyone understand?" |

I can try to give you the short version, sure. SWG was, at it's core, a turn based combat sytem in real time featuring a pretty open profession leveling system which allowed for skills to be dropped and new skills learned. Crafting and support classes, were at one time competent participants in combat, as it was possible to be, for example, a Master Weaponsmith (crafter), and a Master Rifleman (long range combat) and be able to make a very substantial contribution to guild hunts or PVP events.
Basically, there were enough skill point available to master two profession of your choice and enough to dabble into another field of your choice. The first change was the CU, which made the game level instead of skill based, which basically killed crafter hybrids, and doomed pure crafters and entertainers to a life without meaning outside of a crafting interface, and placed 100% emphasis on master two combat classes.
The latest change tried forcing a real time FPS style combat system on top of the old system, which has resulted in keeping every bug which plagued the old system and introduced a litany of new ones. The new change eliminated any and all diveristy between characters by pidgeon holing players into one, and only one profession, and condensing those choices from 32 down to 9. They went a step further and made what was originally end game content, "jedi" into a starting profession, so many that had spent years in attempting to progress towards the highest jedi ranks were now no more powerful or interesting to play than any basic starter profession. They eliminated all item decay or wear from use and/or death from the game, and further simplified and limited crafters while they were at it as well.
I did say I'd try to keep it brief, but thenm, you did ask for two years worth of agony too.
I am also a refugee.
I went to Guildwars, but they are messing that up as far as Im concerned so Im here now. It looks very promising, I think I will be here for years if they dont do any really massive rediculasly bad changes like SOE did to SWG.

Yes, we have the ASPCA. They have a good deal of political influence here as well. Last year, a guy in California was sentenced to 7 years in prison, over a road rage incident. Apparently he and some old lady collided. He was so mad at her, he grabbed her dog and threw it under oncomming traffic. --------- "English doesn't borrow from other languages. Typheon from Radiant here. A refugee from SWG as well, I didnÆt know there where so many of us. Been here in EVE for a while, but I never ran across this thread. I left just before the NGE, but I had forum access long enough over there to see what hell was unleashed upon SWG. ItÆs amazing how SOE could probably write the ôHOW-TO Ruin a MMORPG in 3 Easy Stepsö book and think they are actually doing well.
Interesting to see how many refugees actually made there way hereà

Server: Kauri
Purpose: l33t pilot
Was a veteran pilot in game and the reason I started playing. My buds and I rules our server's space lanes. Making it a galaxy where the Rebel Alliance pretty much won right after Yavin (The game was Star Wars, NOT Ground Wars after all)
Started losing interest as SOE wasn't interested with adding much to space. Stared getting ****ed at the release of the "Rage of the Wookies" expansion because it unbalanced everything in space and some good crafters got screwed as the whole l00t system changed in the name of n00bs.
Got so tired of SOE giving into the whiners. Got so tired of posers putting down space just because they couldn't hang up there. NGE I could care less about, but when "Trials of Obi-wan" came out and it didn't have space lanes to go with it, I was back to playing Mechwarrior 4.
This game brought me back to MMO's and unless another one comes out with this sort of open style and dedication to vision (as in doesn't listen whiners).
I hope we never have to deal with that in this game. When devs start catering to whiners and "balancing" things according to the whims of the masses, that spells the end of all existence.

SWG dissident here as well; doubt anying I say further about 'that game' will add to what has not been said here already. Was mainly a crafter and later a (freelance) pilot.
Honestly, wish I had discovered EVE several years ago so that I could avoided WoW and recently DDO (much to my deepest disappointment). Immensely enjoying the open-end and steep complex learning curve of this game.

Just found this thread LOL.. I played on Sunrunner from about Dec. 03 to just before the launch of Trials of Obi-wan.. after the CU i was having trouble adapting my play style to be enjoyable. A large portion of my guild had migrated to this game and after a short stint back in FPSes and RTSes I came back into the MMO fold with this wonderous and glorious game. (We are a guild that has teams in multiple games).

No real challenge. And you chatracter was made into a cookie cutter. So Here i am. Along with 4 other Beta SWG vets.
