I am also a refugee from the NGE. I actually supported the NGE after playing it on the test center. I was pretty excited about the possibilities.
My problem is that when they applied it to my character I ended up having a pile of problems. Then I started playing and got stuck on a quest/mission where a NPC would not acknowledge I finished the mission. Support basically said I was on my own.
In the past when I got hung up on a bug I would go and do something else until they fixed it, but now that the character development is mostly one-dimentional you are really stuck if you cannot progress in your development.
The UI changes started to get to me too. The lack of right clicking seemed very dump. In the end I decided if I wanted a fast paced, FPS like Star Wars game I would just play Battlefront II.
I tried Eve over two years ago but quit for some reason, probably lack of time. I decided to give it another shot.
I was impressed to see they still had my account on file and I was able to pick up where I left off.
More than anything I like that I can be a casual player and still have fun. That was another reason why I liked SWG before the updates. I was a very casual player but now it feels so directed, feels less social and relaxed, so I decided to move on.
The chat system, eve radio, the web sites, all of these things make Eve nicely social. Combined with the ability to take a slow and easy pace to character development and still have fun makes this a great game for me.
I think the only thing I will really miss from SWG is the crazy things like the haunted house that I went through on Halloween and I will miss the fact that I will never be able to own a ship that is like the Falcon, although I am growing to love my new Badger.

It seem so be over. Whenever I look into the Galaxy forum about 10 people I knew or knew of are quitting. Sad.

I played SWG since launch (Veyon - Ahazi's FuBaR), left for a while to play other games, and came back to SWG recently only to witness everything die under the NGE. Now I've re-joined my husband in EVE and gotten my "I told you so" from him as well. [g]
Seeing SOE kill off all the Jedi was very sad. I know dozens of veteran players who immediately quit in disgust. The new Jedi aren't really Jedi. Pre-NGE it took effort, the mastery of multiple professions and some skill to be Jedi. And Bounty Hunter's had the ability to take Jedi missions against Jedi players. This greatly added to the realism of SWG and a feeling that Jedi were "hunted". Now everyone is handed a Jedi at the door, in a kit no less!
And SWG once had a decently complex crafting/harvesting system with a great variety of professions that could easily be hybridized. Now, with the NGE it's a dumbed down shadow of its former self, a game for the ADD set, with low-quality FPS "action" and no possibility of skill hybridization. Even if it were playable, the best players are all gone now. And clearly many are finding their way to EVE. Yey!

If you're anything like me (I hope not) you'll get a bit disenheartened (sp) after a while because the grind seems SOOOOO long. But don't give up (I'm not, for sure), instead, sit in station and train up for a week or two.
When I start getting bored on my char, that's what I'd do, only log in to change my trainings. It's really helped me keep the interest in EVE at absolute max. ________________ SPACE FOR RENT Inquire Ingame |

Tempus Kai/ Genix Kai from Farstar here. Tried EVE when the servers went dead after the NGE announcement. When the NGE went live, thought it was a huge step backwards, cancelled both accounts. EVE seems a far better managed game.

I just thought I'd try out EVE as many friends from SWG spoke highly of it. So far EVE seems kinda slow and it seems one will never catch up with the long-time players. I'll probably return to SWG once in a while. After all I can't decorate my ship nor wear pretty dresses in EVE...

Jacobi from Sunnrunner here.. I left SWG in October after playing Jedi for a year, but kept up with my friends on other forums. I can't even bear to log back into SWG to see how they massacred Jedi. I started playing EVE yesterday, all I can say is this is probably one of the most mature, friendly, and helpful group of gamers I have seen yet. I look forward to seeing where this goes, but don't yet understand very much... I'll get there though... and good to see so many of my SWG brothers and sisters.

NGE = New Game Enhancements.
To be honest, I am glad it is over. I somehow accepted the non-responsive Customer service, lack of information regarding major changes and hardline attitude from SOE, but enough is enough.
I felt positivly wierd when I submitted a question to the eve helpdesk and recieved not only a response the next day but a questionare regarding my opinion of the CCP performance regarding my matter.
SOE could really watch and learn...

Never get this attitude. It seems to be a common one among new players.
I started the game about a year ago, around this time in 2004. I would consider myself more successful than most players who have played for longer, if you count success in ISK. There are a huge number of ISK-making activites that do not at all depend on skill points. There are also a number of things in combat that I call the Great Equalizers--things that make the opponent's uber items and/or skill points useless. EW is one of these things.

guys,
stick with this game. PVP is ALL about how you kit your ship - NOT about skillpoints.
with the right set up, you can cause some serious headaches even at only 2-3 months old.
You are not limited in terms of what you wish to train - My character started life as a miner/builder. I got bored of that and switched over to fighting with no real problems.
Ok so training up to the higher levels takes time. So? getting your character to higher levels in any game takes time.
Theres something for everyone in this game you just got to go find it.

No, its not even all about that. Also important are how many friends you have, how good your teamwork is, your intel about your enemy, and your positioning in the battle. The least important thing, below all those, is skill points. - Proud member of the [23].

Hey fellow ex-SWG people. I just quit my 2 Bria Accounts this weekend. Cancelled, uninstalled and will never look back again. I am so disgusted w/ soe. I am blown away by the gfx and sound in Eve tho. This seems to be a very exciting alternative.

<-- Oort from Wanderhome.
I only recently went back to SWG after being gone for a year. I couldn't go back to WoW, so I took some friend's advice and came to EVE.
after playing Earth & Beyond, I was kinda nervous about EVE, but it's good to see it's so much more in depth that that!
I've only been playing a few days, but I'm already hooked.
can't wait to actualyl figure out what I'm doing.

Kaveu from Wanderhome, (860 day vet) seems to be a few of us WH players here. Good to see you here Bermag, you were one of the finest and fairest weaponsmiths on the server. I used many of your guns. Logged on to swg for the last time last night to gmail goodbye to my few remaining friends, but im really enjoying EVE, so Im feeling pretty positive overall. Have to compliment the community here, very helpful and friendly. See you all in space

Edited by: Mojo MoFo on 20/11/2005 21:31:32 I'm Desire from the SWG Corbantis server.
I'm a refugee or evacuee from SWG. I hate to vent here, but man how STUPID I was to give SOE my money who NEVER listens to it's playerbase. I swear I've never seen more horrid customer service and lack of business expertise from a gaming company. The NGE has made the game a regular console game now. I hope SWG folds up and all the servers are put offline in the next few months.
