Wesos Orau from the sunrunner server here. I grinded this toon to jedi then sold the account on Ebay. After about 6 months former guildmates were begging me to come back, so I bought the total experience. It was decent. I could've lived with it. I lvled my new toon to 80, was half way with the FS grind again and then the NGE hit. I logged in a couple times but, not knowing what to do with a game I've played for over 2 years really really really ticked me off. Since then I've cancelled and have played WoW. Couple months into WoW and I've found it isn't a in-depth game. Its fun yes, but not really anything to do besides, instances, kill/deliver x of x to y, or lvl your mediocre trade skills. I still play WoW but have been looking for a GOOD mmorpg to play. Oh and by the way I'll be directing my old guildies to check out the trial game here. Hopefully we can all play the same game again.

Yeah, I remember making it. I saw at work that my account had been activated. Later I transfered all my isk and stuff to this char from my trial account. Then I made the thread.
Now I have 2.3 million skill points and fly a battleship (which I really cant fly, but its safe for missions). I have lost ships in low sec and got away a couple of times too. I even lived in a 0.4 system for a while running missions, not losing one ship.
I have had someone tell me my ship setup was insane asking me if i liked dying? I had thought I was doing well until I changed my setup to a suggested one. Now I smile at how I had fought my way through all those missions with that insane setup.
I almost lost my battleship posting this. I have offered everyone I met in my corp a copy of the Pax Amarria (I currently have over a thousand). Did you know the M. in M. Corp stands for Minmatar? They dont want a copy of the Pax Amarria.
Now I want a Assault Frigate (something my skill poits will allow me to fly effectively) and at some point I will want to learn to PVP. Something I never really did in SWG.
You still owe me a Pax Amarria, the fire stillneeds something to burn

You want to burn a book that has the phone numbers of all the hot redheads in Eve in it?
In the copy I will escrow to you (only 39 jumps away from your current location) they only cost 3.99 isk per minute.

Well I too am from SWG ... Starsider/Bria but I am acually not glad so many SWG fans are here. The reason is that it was our whinning and crying that brought about the CU in the 1st place and I had never seen a game with so many cry babies in it. PRE CU was the best most fun MMO of all time and we ruined it by whinning to much. I hope the same dosen't happen here. EvE is a awesome game with tons to do and it is hard enough to keep the children out, a big plus for me, and to make you think more then twitch.

SWG. Star Wars Galaxies.
How they managed to screw up a game with Star Wars in their name is really beyond me. If they just left it as it was it would've still kept a certain player base. It wasn't the best, there were bugs, the interface was crappy, fps was bad.. but it was Star Wars! For that alone you forgot all the other problems.
But with that NGE **** they just went over the line. Maybe they simply wanted to kill the game. Guess they've succeeded.
RIP SWG.

My speciality: Blowing jedi to hell for a price ;) I quit SWG after the "combat upgrade" back when they introduced all that cooldown crap I think like almost a year ago or something like that. I heard its gotten even more down the shaft since then. In anycase I didn't come directly here after SWG I went first to a game called Dofus and now am just starting out here.
Nice to see you all :)

Edited by: Thon Mystra on 05/03/2006 00:34:12 Ex-SWG myself too. Started 3 months after release, beta'd JTL, RoTW, CU and NGE and in all honesty I have never before come across such poor communication to the community or even BETWEEN the community. Devs rarely answered posts, and those that did were flamed more intensely than Joan of Arc, new players were constantly derided and quickly moved on to other things, instead of bugs being fixed entire professions were nerfed or overpowered, constant fighting between players on the forums (mostly between BH and jedi), content was dismissed in favour of ever increasing amounts of new loot, the list is absolutely endless. I gave the CU a chance, I gave the NGE a chance....both were a let-down. Yeah, I miss it. It was a big part of my life since being married and a father I don't go out as much as I used to and treated the game as a social thing mostly, and although it's kind of a sad thing to admit (perhaps...) I lost a lot of good friends because of the changes. I dabbled in WoW, EQ2, MxO, and even retro'd back to FFXI but to no avail. I DL'd the EVE trial the other day and REALLY like what I have seen so far (i.e. the tutorial cos it takes aaages! rofl) and have obviously now crawled my way into your forums Looking forward to meeting you all and hopefully making a bunch of new friends.

I was a pre-NGE player myself.... I'm pretty sure I was anyway, since I haven't the slightest clue as to what NGE means.
I thought SWG was awesome. I quit playing because I ran into financial trouble. That added to the fact that I was never home enough to play it (was in the Army).
Early last year I wanted to pick it back up but decided to see what all had changed. I asked around and every single person who I had played with before told me to avoid SWG like the plague, so I did.
I tried out WoW, but I played it about 5 times total. It's not very multi-player oriented. IMHO, it's a single player game with a lot of other players running around. (My opinion may have changed if I stuck with it...)
EvE is awesome. I played it for about a week on a non-trial, monthly based subscription and fell in loved with it. My next re-up was a year's subscription, that's how much I like EvE.

Bang on the money there mate, on all counts. WoW can be fun in a light-hearted, "I like to solo but have other players around sometimes" kind of way, but in all honesty after a few months (weeks, maybe days(!!) for hardcore grinders) there is little left to do except constantly raiding the same instances over and over and over and...you get the picture. And for what? Uber gear to sell on the AH for prices that only other ultra rich players can afford. I saw a pair of blue rarity cloth pants with some pretty much standard mods on with a level 17 req. on the AH a while back for......75 gold! The only level 17's I knew of that had 75 gold to spare were either ebayers or twinks. PvP is virtually impossible until at least level 25+ if you consider half an hour running from one end of warsong gulch to the other appealing. It's OK in small doses, but not something I could really get my teeth into, unlike this. Lord knows why I never tried it before but I'm sure glad I did! On a further note before I retire to bed (is it really 4am already? damn, I've been on EVE for 9 hours!!! must get some sle.....ZZZzzz) I'd just like to comment on the newly released RFonline. More like advice for anyone considering it as I shelled out the 30 quid for it on release day after reading the description and scouring the forums( my pre-order beta key arrived the day before servers went live, how crap is that? Game got a severe ticking off for that! ) and was under the impression that the system was extremely similar in vein to that of SWG pre-CU and I was drooling for it. Turns out it's a bit of a sheep in wolf's clothing (as opposed to a wolf in sheep's clothing) and basically equates to grinding groups of mobs day in, day out to get to level 30 and have the odd mass-battle to try and gain the right to mine some ore for a few hours, then rinse and repeat. I was extremely disappointed with it and just wanted to warn anyone thinking of trying it out not to waste your hard-earned unless you seriously enjoy hit, hit, heal, move on to next, hit, hit heal type of games. Stick with EVE guys, from what I'VE seen, it seems to be the most enthralling, involving MMO on the market at the moment and I for one will be spending quite some time here......maybe I'll last longer than my 3 years in SWG
Here's to the future.

Unbeleivable. The profanity filter won't even let you say the name of a fruit because it contains four letters which would otherwise spell a violent act.
Don't worry mods, it's a G-"r a p e"... Even the Motion Picture Association of America would apprive it for All Audiences...

quite SWG after 2 years with the start of the New Game Experience. been on Infinity a wookie master Creature handler and master Bio-engineer, which both was deleted completly from the game. was frustrated before from bugs, bugs, bad costumer treatment and all those kiddie Jedi. played SWG because i am a great fan of the old 3 movies (always liked Chewy and Han way much more than Luke). tried GuildWars and DDO(beta) , but fantasy is not my game. So i am back at SF, with a game i should have played from the beginning.

A rumor on the net says that someone has been able to reverse-enineer a working SWG Pre-CU!
It's still a work in progress, and last i checked they have gotten so far that they are able to logon with the existing SOE - SWG Client into the server.. But the server is empty, no cities and so on.
But, its a work in progress.. and its suppoed to be free!?

I played SWG from Beta until May 2004 and posted as electricnomad on the forums there.
The only character I ever really developed was Zuco Santeriia on Starsider. The PA I was in would stage biweekly attacks on Fort Tusken back when revives were rare and you had to spend 20 minutes walking there through Tusken-infested territory. That was SWG in its prime.
I'd have to guess that I was much better known to players through my posts on the Smuggler forums, though. A number of the former regulars on that forum have given EVE a try, which is how I ended up here.
This is my first try at an MMO since SWG, and I like it so far. I'd really like to find a large, well-established corporation, though, since MMOs are supposed to be about cooperation as far as I'm concerned. Send me an EVEmail if you have any suggestions.
Thanks,
electricnomad
