Instability leads to maneuverability. Without computer assistance, controlled level flight would be difficult and inefficient. The pilot basically tells the computer where to maneuver the aircraft and computer moves the control surfaces to the needed positions and compensates for any instabilities. Although this is for atmospheric flight and aerodynamics only, not spaceflight . Spaceflight is whole different animal. At the very least, if there is true newtonian physics, a "kill rotation" button will be needed. Rotation can get out of hand quickly if you're not careful. /rant off I think that would be covered under fly-by-wire which would prevent uncontrolled rotation by correcting when the pilot stops their pitch or roll on the yoke. If it works the same as killing velocity in the demo of the prototype engine there will be a little 'lag' as the fbw puts the thrusters to work to correct orientation.
The physics engine of SC was coded by Roberts himself and it simulates a FBW system which in turns simulates WW2 era dogfighting. The system is continuously firing micro-thrusts to keep the ships straight, but Roberts disabled the visualization of such microthrusts because it was ugly to see the thrusters flickering continuously even when the ship was "stopped".
Anyway, I would expect hardcore private servers enabling the effect back just for the sake of it, along with whatever modifcations are allowed via modding of the engine. |

Hmmm If I intend to play SC I better get awesome with my dog fighting skills.
Guess I'll have to do more dogfights in DCS with my Su-27 Flanker. |

Dogfihgting without gravity nor aerodynamics could be a different beast than actual dogfighting... but most maneuvers still would be appliable, if even modified. With newtonian physics, a immelman could be a deadly maneuver by turning 180-¦ in the up section and then fire thruster to max... enemy overshoots and bye bye.
(Anyway, the dogfighting module is coming soon -actual soon, not CCP's Soon) |

Apparently the man with the 27 million dollars (so far) is aware.

It makes sense to me as well. I take the statement to mean that the CryEngine multiplayer would by used if it was necessary to do so to meet the end of December deadline if the SC backend wasn't ready for deployment even without multiplayer. So it sounds like either way the dogfighting module will be released, even if it means a major update to port the SC backend with multiplayer a few weeks later. |

The interview says the opposite, the dogfight module may be released even without multiplayer (just single player PvE) if they can't release it with SC's MMO backend multiplayer, rather than use CE3's stock multiplayer and later update it.
And it makes sense, why bother ironing the potential issues of using CE3's multiplayer when they may just wait and use their own code and put it to test right from alpha? The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

Well CR made it sound like CryEngine was still an option, but not the preferred option between it and the SC backend without initial multiplayer support. I take that to mean that even if the SC backend is not ready for rollout (even sans the multiplayer support) a dogfighting module will be released. Even if it has to be with the default CE3 code for a few weeks. Basically all angles seem to be covered.

The designer already explained what: they're there because they look cool. Yes, they make sense as a backup cooling system for atmospheric flight, but they're essentially an artistic license.

I'm not sure what's more impressive, that they set a new record for a MMOG to degenerate into P2W at -2 years, or pushing the boundaries of selling non-things from the realm of things that only exist virtually into the realm of things that don't exist at all. Quick update!
- 28 millions reached, that unlocks a new starter ship class, the Mustang - Stretch goal for 30 million USD will be a luxury yacht (Ish is drooling too hard to post, but also there's another reaosn why I'm here and soon you'll know) - future stretch goals will be somehow detached from items. It doesn't takes a million to make a new ship, but that million is spent in better development and a better game - Stretch goal for USD 31 million has been unveiled too... almost: players are being polled to ask what should be the role of the new ship.
Guess what option is winning?

29 million achieved, stretch goal unlocked: More, better Squadron 42 (single player) content
30 million stretch goal: a luxury yacht will be added to game (likely will be unlocked today as the LTI bombers sale is going crazy)
31 million stretch goal (voted by the community): RSI Orion*, a dedicated mining ship
32 million stretch goal is on the vottng, so far is winning clearly the option of a dedicated salvage ship (42% of votes).

Well, my miner alt (Yiole Gionglao) was so excited about hitting that option that it took a while to figure that she wasn't logged in to the RSI site and thus couldn't vote.
Maybe some people want to play EVE's non-core features outside of EVE; and that makes sense since EVE is quite a improvable game outside of the core and CCP is not obliging. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

Well, the original funding was 20 million USD, updated to 23 to account for kickstarting & other costs. At one point, there was a fear of an obvious risk of "feature creeping" as the game approached the boundaries of the original development plan. Actually, many of the latest fancies will not be available upon release (that already was stated by the 26th million, IIRC).
As I said at the time, CR must stop promising stuff in exchange for money, and this new diea of letting peeps choose ships is just working fine. it keeps building community, he's not forced to make those ships available upon launch (nothing beyond 26th million is, except the Suadron 42 improved content) and certainly doesn't means a feature creep, minus for the part in which so far the ships are being conceptualized by a single guy and his to-do list is growing quickly.
Anyway, the bombers sale has downed the 30th million and so another ship has joiend the ranks, the Origin 890 JUMP, a luxuy yacht with multiple decks, ample windows and a bay for small craft.
Goal for 32 million has been set as the Aegis Surveyor, a dedicated salvage ship. Voting is open for the next stretch goal ship; if they keep going this way, probably additional ships will be the stretch goals up to the 35th million.
This voting is very tight, as there are three optiosn packed on a dime:
Smuggling ship 21% Exploration ship 20% Information Runner 20%
That, with 10,169 votes already cast... there's some passionate community there. The Greater Fool Bar is now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden! |

I was thinking of another thread to stir up trouble on General Discussion and I thought of a good topic...
Star Citizen seems to have people voting on non-PVP ships which means it caters to carebears.
Carebear miners basically supply all the minerals for EVE's economy which allows the PVPers to shoot stuff cheaply.
Once Star Citizen is out and all the carebears leave because they are tired of the grief, EVE mineral prices will go through the roof ruining all the PVPers day.
