I get these disconnects too but only when me or my roommates are running Bit Torrent or some other P2P program at full speed. It chokes up the connection and, even though things like browsing the web work fine, results in constant disconnects in EVE. As soon as I turn off all the p2p programs running EVE stays connected just fine.

I've been getting dropped by eve every 10mins or so, thought it might be my ISP playing silly buggers again (I'm with Tiscali still ) but by the looks of this thread I'm not alone. It started about 4-5 days ago. It's hard to pinpoint it but seems to happen more often when I am docked, even when 'active' i.e chatting/browsing market/etc. I've double checked and triple checked everything my end and it all seems ok.
It's pretty annoying cos it doesn't happen all the time. Come on CCP pull your fingers out and tell us what is happening and get it fixed

i only seem to disconnect when i'm idled. for example if i'm docked and go do something else for about 10 minutes i come back and have been disconnected. i haven't been disconnected during active playing and i have done quite a few quests over the last week.
i'm wondering if this is some new system to prevent people from idling? i use to keep eve running between down times and chat with friends through out the day while leaving the house to go to classes and stuff. maybe this kind of activity was causing too much server load and they had to kick people off for idling. it'd be nice to know if this is really the case or not.

A lot of people have the same experience and there's a few threads saying this like This One
If this is actually done on purpose it's one of the most retarded moves CCP has ever made. Try using exploration probes, launching 4 of them (not cheap btw) waiting 5 minutes and instead of getting scan results you get a connection lost message. It really sucks!

this problem have not been fixed with relevations 1.3
I posted earlier.. - > reemmber I have many computers and many accounts (6+), on same machine some times out, others dont, so its not the router, as some machines work fine, and accounts dont, on the same lan, on the same router on the same ip segment.. all machines are from IBM, original certified machines with original certified drivers.. with original certified release of Win XP with all patches.. now this leads me to one conclusion, this is software related and its driving my covert and force recon ships alts nutty, neither does it help on market lookup.. FIX it..

I've been getting these disconnects since several days. I never got them at my previous room / i-net connection and the first few days at the new i-net connection were fine, untill some days ago. Every time I idle for more then 1 minutes, I get disconnected. It's horrible to do something like mining and constantly have to open windows and do things just to stay connected, that's just retarted.

Same here. Happens about every 10 to 15 minutes and usually when I am in the dock it seems. I am spending time reading while training at the dock to get back up to speed on the game after a 2 year lay off and this constant disconnect to login screen is not making my return pleasent. I see on another thread it might have something to do an anti AFk code. It is happening to me just like they explain in this link:

Trying to check MTU as well by using the recommendations of Linksys makers of my router.

Hi all,
Im also having this issue.
Its getting rather extreme for me with 5-6 disconnects in a hour period.
I havent changed anything since the last patch.
I figure its something to do with the server because my ts/vent keeps running fine even when I disconnect.
CCP whoever is writing your network code needs a kick up the butt.

ROUTERS!!! ROUTERS!!! I was having this problem and it was making me MADDD but I think I fixed it. In my router settings (usually located at http://192.168.1.1 if it has web access) there was a section called special apps. I opened up ports 26000 and 26001 for Eve to communicate with (that's what it says on the Eve website for ports of communication). No server disconnects today!!

In the past week or two I believe it's been as worse as ever. I'm getting dropped about every half hour. I'm guessing that this is not related to the software itself. Those who are having problems should post tracelogs, their location and their ISP. Those who are having problems should be sharing something that could be identified as a cause.

I'm not familiar with tracelog, but my ISP is Wide Open West and I'm in the Chicagoland region. I seriously doubt this is an ISP problem as I have zero trouble playing anything else.

Edited by: Tryptic Photon on 06/02/2007 19:37:15 Same problem, random disconnects on two different computers in different locations, no similarity between network configs (home/work). Clean client installs do not help.
This most often happens while idling in a station for a few minutes, but can also happen while ratting (not good when there's 5 hammerhead2's out there). Love how you still think you're playing for a few minutes, then realize your drones aren't doing any damage. Then, your heart sinks knowing those little 3M bills are toast while frantically relogging.

If you runing a Wireless card and a router you might try to ping your router fixed Eve for me.
After the Revelations update the server would disconnected every 10mins or so. I did eveything on the fourms to try to fix it and only one thing that work was to ping my routers IP with -t.
( ping 192.168.xxx.xxx -t )
Eve send so few paeckets that if thats all your doing your wireless card/router will drop your eve ports and go in to standby/powersave mode. I can run every other game BF2 HL2 and it works fine but if I dont ping the router with EVE it will CTD evey time now.

Hello,
I was a tiscali customer, signed up for a year's contract, and I got out free!
Here's how to leave tiscali broadband without charge and move ISP:
Download as much as possible, about 20-30gig a month will get you in their badbooks. First you'll get a warning letter, then another.... then finally, sent directly to your @tiscali.co.uk email you'll get a FINAL letter.
It will give you a phone number to call to migrate away and they DON'T charge!
Get your MAC (Migrate Away Code) emailed to you and then go to a provider that is ACTUALLY unlimited.
ALL ISPs have 'Fair Usage Policies' and/or cap limits and/or traffic shaping that mess with your EVE and torrents..... except ONE.
It took me 4 days of CONSTANT research and here it is... fast4.net
No limits! Their policy says they might contact you about your bandwidth usage if you exceed 500gb a month (That's 16gig a day!) but they'll never cap you or shape your traffic. They are officially ACE, ú15.95 a month for 8meg, with no contract.
If you do move to them and this article is of help, mention my Customer ID when you migrate: 200931
It'll save me ú1 a month.
Enjoy peeps!

Update on my last post: Looks like I was right, Linux kernel 2.4 and early 2.6 kernels will reset any connection it's NATing if it sees a TCP checksum error. A lot of broadband routers out there are based on Linux and the problem is likely not confined to Linux. I use a PC running Fedora Core Linux as my broadband router. Once I upgraded it to Fedora Core 6 which uses a recent 2.6 kernel. Zero problems in the weeks since.
If you're a techie, you could try turning your router into a bridge and run PPPoE on Windows directly - but make sure you've got Windows firewall on and you're fully patched.
If not, keep screaming to CCP to get the router that's corrupting the packets fixed.

Ive had simmilar experience when I was playing Lineage 2.
Devs there were making you check rediculous things and blamed ISP instead of checking their UBER/TOP/EXPENSIVE sexy router system at the data center. They later appologized because they changed something at the datacenter without their knowledge. After weeks of diagnostic and intervention of PROPER admins who have knowledge (unlike many nubs calling themselfs admins just because they know how to wire calbes together and setup windows) they found out the glitch.
I just recently upgraded my trial account to full one. Let me tell you something, ive never ever experienced a game with soo many disconnects EVER !!!!!!!!!! WTF, sometimes every 5 min, sometimes once per hour, sometimes 3 times per hour, and god knows why, once I endured for whole 3 hours, WOW.
Geez CCP get some PROPER admins at work there, not just some nubs that weave diploma at your face. Get some battle hardened Cisco guy or something to fix this issue. Network isnt that complex, atleast not for those who know what theyre doing.
Go abroad, go to the guy who has most probs (at his home), send your techie. Theyll be chillin havin beer, playin EVE untill they encounter probs and troubleshoot with CCP staff on the other side of the telephone line. Im sure its in your budget to make this a reality. For the sake of all of us here. ONE FRIGGIN trip to one problematic guy.

I suspect the recent spate of frequent disconnects is due to a change/upbgrade/swapout in a network node very close to CCP, perhaps a firewallor proxy. Firewalls and perhaps proxies have to maintain state information about TCP connections passing through them. Because space for connection info is not infinite they MUST employ an algorithm for disconnecting stale connections. I think CCP or one of their cluster site or network vendors changed something that does stateful connection management and overlooked making sure it will not disco the connections before many hours. A client should be able to remain connected until the downtime.
One workaround that seems to work is to subscribe to the Help channel, make it as small as possible, and stash it in a corner of the screen. Help is always active and the traffic seems to prevent the discos. As far as I'm concerned if CCP won't find and fix the real problem then the burden of the additional unnecessary Help traffic is on them.

Edited by: funni on 19/03/2007 13:42:40 I'm not so sure this is a "low activity" problem.
I was playing fine yesterday, then all of a sudden my main kept ctd. I hadn't had issues before then,(had my char logged on for about 9 hours by then) and was mining in a undisclosed 0.0 location where there were 4 of us in the entire system. (no lag due to multiple players) I am/(see was) running 2 acct's one on laptop and one on my desktop. The desktop acct kept crashing and the laptop account was somewhat fine. Every once in awhile it would CTD but it would do it at different times than my desktop... I have a line booster from my cable company to enhance and "clean" my broadband connection and subscribe to shaw's Extreme-I internet speed (10Mbps down). So, no problems on slow net connection.
I don't forsee any reason why all of a sudden this problem would arise. I did reboot my desktop.. the problem persisted.. so it is not my hardware. I do not run sound mode on, and the lag from video isn't going to be tremendous (regardless of your vid card spec's) when your mining.. alone..
I should also mention, I do have a wireless router, however, my desktop is hardwired through a brand new cable and my laptop is wireless.. thanks f

And please dont be offending my ISP or connection, its EVE, was soo from the start.

Furthermore I discovered, whenever there is increased interaction from my side, EVE crashes and restsrts the client.
Whenever I click fast or type fast, soo it cant COPE (apparently), this happens. Like there was some kind of filter allowing in just soo much or lagging soo bad it couldnt handle all the (minute) info.
I sencerely hope this is just a glitch because some of your hardware had to be put offline or simmilar.
But an OFFICIAL word here on these forums would put us at ease.
