seeing how this went to page 2 for the first time i've ever seen i was hesitant to post but... the more info the better.
I just had a CTD 15ish minutes ago and happened to have pingplotter running. this is what i got.(certain IPs blacked out to protect the innocent).
http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e368/Jcorb/eveping.jpg
as you can see, an decent ammount packet loss. Some on my backbone but a good deal from across the pond.
I'm also seeing a consistant 5% packet loss on 195.50.91.22 since the CTD
all this leads me to think its an ISP problem. My side and theirs. I'm going to keep my eye on it and see if this re-accurs on my next CTD.

I can't tell you how heartening yet disheartening it is to know that so many other people are sharing in the same kind of problems that I'm having.
What I find ironic is that after doing something that was suggested in the "Find Answers" section of support, my connection to the server closed entirely.
I can't run the pingplotter because I can't log in. I can't log in because I did what the support section told me to do. I can't get any more support until I can log in. I can't get support to help me log in because so many others are having issues as well. So I am just kinda sitting here, feeling helpless about circumstances, watching movies and *****ing up at omgrawr.net, waiting for a godsend from tech support.

If English isn't your first language, you did fine. You spoke it better than a good deal of people I know whose first language is English.

Well the ctds are back with a vengence. Lag is awful and now starting to experience crash to re-boot..
Ping-plotter shows a nice clean route, no losses.
Time to play something else methinks. Wish there was some light at the end of all this.

I think I've fixed my disconnects I upgraded the firmware on my router last night and I've not seen a single disconnect since (and I was bombing out every 10 mins before ).
If anyone out there suffering disconnects has the same router they may want to try that too. I use an Origo 8100, Safecom has taken Origo over and renamed the routed the SAMR-4115, so look on the safecom website for the SAMR-4115 firmware and flash away
remember, you can properly **** your router trying this, but as they're only ú20 ish new its not a huge financial risk
Still doesn't give an explanation as to why this problem only started after the patch. Hopefully this is an extra piece of the puzzle for CCP. |

I have the feeling the disconnects really started since the SQL servers were upgraded. I talked to other players and they had the same problems, regular disconnects before the SQL server upgrades a while back.
The hardware upgrade really improved the EVE experience, I had no problems at all, life was great. But then CCP thought it was needed to install a new version of Microsoft SQL server and after that the only improvement was more disconnects.
CCP, please downgrade or install a real SQL server.

I have the same problem. Keep getting disconnected, and it only happens when I, ahem, "ask the server" do to something. I.e. stopping my ship, fetching info from the market, etc. Also, it seems to happen in bursts. It's fine for hours at a time, then bam, I keep getting disconnected every 5 minutes for 30-40 minutes. After this bout of disconnects it returns to being fine again. Quite annoying.

Edited by: Hojo Norem on 03/07/2006 22:21:56 Edited by: Hojo Norem on 03/07/2006 22:21:06 I had two disconnects tonight. TS was on all the time. The fist disconnect caused TS to disconnect also. When the second disconnect 'happened' TS broke up and went silent. I stood there for about 10 seconds waiting for the disconnect message then I decided to quit EVE. (Sometimes when I do this I can log back in quickly enough so my ship doesn't emergency warp out.) In this instance TS came back on the moment I quit EVE.
EVE must be screwing around with my network connection somehow. Like I said (and as others have) before this didn't start until a certain upgrade (can't remember which one).

I am also getting an insane number of disconnects lately, seemed to start a couple of weeks ago but has been even worse the last week. Was trying everything assuming it was my end and nothing worked, so glad to see this thread it's given me a lot of reassurance!

I have been having this problem as well. I managed to fix it accidently when I was opening up a bunch of ports in my firewall for other programs. I don't know which ports it was, but, if you open these ports to the eve server: 50k-65k, 8650, 6112, 4661-4672, 50-53, 6881-6999, 8090, 80, and 26k then you should be golden. And on that note, plz don't hack my computer.
If someone could take the time to discover which of these are really necessary, I am sure everyone would appreciate it.

I too am having this problem..... ccp says it's my sound card drivers, I have creative sound blaster audigy 4, updated my sound drivers etc, still crashes, switched to my onboard sound card a realtek AC'97, updated all the drivers for that as well, still crashing, however, when I disable all my sound cards, I no longer crash, but who wants to play any game with no sounds?????
eve-online compatibility states it supports soundblasters and such, but it seems it's not compatibile 100% with the new cards or the ac'97 as they say........ this issue with the drivers really needs to be fixed! and this problem only started after the last couple of patches....... :(
getting really fustrated and tired of undocking or going through jump gates and crashing.....
almost makes one wanna quit playing totally, and what's worse I'm tired of them saying update your sound card drivers, it's like they are not listening to me, MY DRIVERS ARE CURRENT AND UPDATED! god what don't they understand about that statement???? grrrr......

Edited by: Beatnik Squaresville on 07/07/2006 21:58:54 I have a very strange disconnect problem: With this character, Beatnik, I am disconnected within 30 seconds of logging in, EVERY time. I am unable to leave the station I'm docked at as well. I created an alt just to experiment - he is able to stay connected/enter space just fine.
So, what's happening here!? Any help would be much appreciated.

I also have found the following errors in my error logs that I was running while on eve to try and narrow the problems down. I'm sure that these have alot to do with folks crashing......... and only adds weight that it's not on our end. I wonder if the 1st error soundnode warpexplo01a.wav has no name could be causing problems with folks sound card drivers???? hmm...
Track from SoundNode warpexplo01a.wav has no name
Could not register 3D sound from node warpexplo01a.wav

If anyone is still watching this forum item, I just wanted to say that I've been free of CTDs for a couple of weeks now.
I found 2 (of 4) defective memory modules. I used 3 different (freeware) memory testers but only the one from Microscope actually found a problem. The problem was not persistent, it would be found at roughly 1 in 4 testing periods.
I wouldn't suggest that this is true for everyone - it may just be coincidence, but my conclusion is that since Eve is an intensely memory hungry application, a random fault might just be sufficient to disrupt the programme.
I've also found that the quality of memory chips seems a little poor - I've confirmed 5 128 pin 512k DIMMs as being defective in the past year. (No, I don't over-clock!).
All I suggest is, test your memory to death if necessary and don't just rely on one tester.
Eve seems ok now - apart from the laaaggg and freeze-ups. (Sigh ), but I guess they're another problem.

Hey folks,
I was able to play all fine till last week tuesday/wednesday all the sudden bluescreen and reboot. since then I am getting disconnected at an insane rate. I reinstalled windows (fresh installation with partition rebuild and all), updated the bios of my mainboard while I was at it and made sure I have all the current and uptodate drivers installed. Nothing changed. What freaks me out is I dont get a error message or anything. The client is just closing back to desktop. I cant find anything in the logs but this :
File created 2006.07.12 09:24:12 <string>:2551: FutureWarning: hex()/oct() of negative int will return a signed string in Python 2.4 and up
<string>:598: FutureWarning: hex()/oct() of negative int will return a signed string in Python 2.4 and up
An exception has occurred. It has been logged in the log server as exception #33
--- so what now ? I have plenty of these crash.txt files in the logs but it wont help me to fix the problem. Oh and although some people here may not want to hear it but I am certain it is not on my side. WoW is doing fine hours of playtime, EQ2 is doing fine hours of playtime. Pingplotter is not showing any major pl or lag but the "hops" in london are generally slow on my pings.
CCP please do something, I cant play anymore, sometimes I get kicked to desktop right after I hit the pic to login, usually just 2 or 3 mins after and sometimes it takes 10 mins top. I am not using Wlan or a router its simple DSL. I am not a tech-guy though I know my share about my machine to get along and I never experienced something like this before last week.

Soz Astro, been away for a couple of days. I downloaded the freeware memory test prog from here: http://www.m2ktech.com/
You have to fill out a Q&A form before you get it and if I remember correctly, and you'll probably get some spam related to their other products as a result, but they were decent and their web-site has some really interesting forums related to PC hardware etc.
Re the memory. No, I just removed the two defective DIMMs. This dropped my capacity from 2Gbyte to 1 Gbyte, so no big deal although Eve doesn't seem quite so smooth as a result. I read somewhere that that you should match the latency on the chips - well I dunno about that, but I had brought the RAM chips from different sources. The current pair (of 512k ) DIMMs I brought from one of the on-line suppliers in the UK.

This is exactly the same problem that I am having. Sometimes it disconnects immediately after loading my character into the game.
