The one and only logical reason for NOT having a skill queue in the first place has vanished (or will vanish in 30 minutes from this moment).
I demand urgent, nay, IMMEDIATE implementation of an UNLIMITED (or at least ridiculously large) length/size skill training queue !
Please show support

At least give 5 skill queue, having to go online for couple small skills is ridiculous especially if they finish at night.

Just imagine what the Petition queue is going to be like from all the 'evemon said it should be done training, and it isn't' complaints?
EDIT: Oh, and to the Idea, I think I would actually prefer that instead of a queue, it would just continue training the current skill until Level V or completed. This would be MUCH faster to code (possibly within a day?), and it just seems to make more sense to me.

Would be nice to have some kind of queue - be it a definable one or just train current skill to V.
However, I'm not going to quit if it's not implemented

EVEmon works great, but it can't change my skill training.
I pay for my two accounts a year at a time. If I am unable to access the game for a time, e.g. my computer explodes, HOW DO I CHANGE MY SKILL TRAINING???
GIVE US THE ABILITY TO QUEUE OUR SKILLS!!! And possibly give EVEmon the ability to do it!
I agree 100%... There is NO valid reason that CCP can't code a LARGE skill queue into this game! Unless they don't know how to do it, which I SERIOUSLY doubt.

Originally by: CCP Prism X I, for one, find it perfectly fair that people pay for services that my work, or others, render to them. That being said I did not make this decision, I'm a database developer. I don't know why I got the mail about implementing this. I, however, find it very reasonable. Although it might deter people from paying good money to train offline. Can't comment on that as I don't do marketing analysis nor do I read them (which is understandable seeing as they don't affect my work).
But I can see that you are not. That doesn't make me particularly happy as I do believe we earn our revenue. You might not agree with me there either though and I wouldn't know how to convince you otherwise, other than work even more. So I can't help you on that front.
I can, however, offer a compromise. I will happily implement any sort of queue for you guys IFF (yes, double F, it has a meaning) there is a green light from game design. That doesn't constitute a promise more than anything else I say here but I'll do it. I'll even go and mention it to people tomorrow, just for you guys. With a smile on my face. Because I love this game. What it is and what it will be.

I play EVE parttime and EVE is great for casual play, aside from the 'having to dash off in the middle of dinner, mowing the lawn, washing the dog or walking the car to change a skill' part. Just a 2-3 skill limited queue would do, ty.

Skill queue, hell yeah! It's been asked for at least as long as I've been playing, (as has the killing of ghost training).
I'll even train levels of 'advanced learning' for extra queue slots if I have to. 1 queue slot for everyone with no training, 1 more for each level trained. Or just the 'train same again'. Either works for those "oh crap i have forgotten to set a skill and it's another 13 hours before I get home again" moments.

Edit: Oh and this thread mentions ghost training, so that doubles the chances immediately.
That said, damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead! While I'd like to see a skill queue implemented as much as you (and I've been very vocal about the subject,) there's already a long, loooong thread about this already here:
CSM - CCP Meeting 001 - 0001 Skill Queue Functionality
I don't see the need for another thread on the subject, really. Sorry. ----

I actually have given it some thought (the CSM thing), but there are twothree issues at hand here.
First, I *hate* travelling, and I don't have a valid passport (last one expired about a year ago, only used it once in the 5 years it was valid). Especially since normally I wouldn't need a passport to enter Iceland (EU member) in the first place. Second, I really can't be out of the country in the date/period the CSM is supposed to be meeting, and I have this nagging sensation I wouldn't really be able to attend all online meetings of the CSM either. Finally, I really dislike NDAs, and I would feel EXTREMELY restricted by the terms I would be forced to obey by if I signed them. Especially since my life philosophy is "nearly full disclosure" on just about everything.
Bottom line, while I could make a decent CSM member under ideal RL circumstances, I really don't feel up to it right now. At some later time, maybe.

The only reason NOT to have a queue is because of Ghost Training. With that gone I too demand skill queueing. Since I'm paying for my skill training I demand the right have my character train non-stop while my account is active.
In all honestly this is a perfectly good compromize, one of the worse thing about not having a skill queue is sometimes you just can't get home on time, or you're internet goes down, or you're out of town and a skill ends. Then you miss hours, or days of possible training.
I use to make up for this fact ever since I started playing to be honest and train a nice long skills ghost style. It can't be that hard to have at least 5 or 10 skills in a queue that train instantly after one finishes.
It's not a tall order CCP, and infact it's a damn nice "customer friendly" feature. You want to remove some heat from Ghost training... Implament Skill Queueing.

Four things, Akita. First, you're acting like a boor - you do not "demand" when you do not have any manner of control whatsoever. Second, this issue has already been brought to CCP, and they've given their response. Third, ghost training was never a logical reason to not have a skill queue - you just stop the queue when your account is unpaid, every single skill queue thread ever advocated that solution. Fourth, you don't have to post in support of your own thread immediately - I find it far better practice to hold back and support my first response. Less spammy, and a higher support ratio.

a skill que would be nice so you could organized the training a little more, and with ghost training being disabled I think ccp is allready programming the skill que.
I just think it should have been done years ago. ghost training shouldnt exist and the que should have been there from the start.
with the ghost training disabled I'm tbh surprised to see so many ppl whining about having to actually pay for accounts while training. Training SP should be the reason to pay for the game not a reason not too.

HELL YEAH!!!!!
HOW MANY FORUM POSTS DO WE HAVE TO INITIATE JUST TO GET SOMETHING THAT A MAJORITY OF PLAYERS WANT AND ALL PLAYERS WOULD BENEFIT FROM??????????
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE??????
I logged on today to start a post almost exactly like Akita did, so i was pleasantly surprised to see that im not the only one who was utterly shocked by the sudden end to the ONLY (if not tenable) rationale that one could possibly make against having a skill que.
Guys, i pay money for this game and i really love it but i find it INSULTING that your interest in customer service is so low that you would ignore such a vocal request from SO many players. If my company did this, we would go out of business LONG before you guys will.
Please, this is a DETAIL!!!!!! DO IT NOW and let us get on with getting our full money's worth!!!!!!
OH, and by the way, just in response to CCP Wrangler's post on the previous forum post about this:
Quote: CCP strongly believes that switching skill training is an activity that encourages players to log into the game and play
i have this to say:
People log on to PLAY THE GAME, not to change skills. I will log on when i want to play NOT because i will perhaps play from some whim that will overcome me suddenly when i log on to change skills. If i got something else to do, i will log on, change the skill (pain in the a**) and log off so i can do something like...oh...LIVE MY REAL LIFE!!!!!
I have a life. I want to enjoy my life. Part of the enjoyment i get from my life is playing EVE. However, having to log on just to change skills (or losing training time just because i cant get to my computer to do so) only takes away from my enjoyment of this part of my life.
GET OVER YOURSELVES, STOP JERKING US AROUND AND GIVE US THE UNLIMITED SKILL QUE NOW!!!!!

First, you can demand anything, lacking complete control just makes your demand much less meaningful. Second, their response apparently didn't satisfy. Not me, not others. Third, actually, yes, yes it was, one of the two "big" reasons actually (alongside the completely ridiculous "we want people to play the game" second big reason).

Nerfing the so-called "ghost training" was a stupid action and the dishonest explanations added insult to injury.
I'm not sure whether a skill training queue would calm me down but its absence is an obvious failing.

Having no skill queue is really silly. It always has been. For someone who works 13+ hour days, getting skills done when I want them to without a queue is a HUGE pain. I don't like having to babysit multiple accounts on my hours off just to keep skills training.

A que would be really great.
If not a que then the 75% primary and 25% seconadary skill training idea (where if either finishes the other carry on at full training speed, what you never had two books on the go in rl?)

I am throwing in my vote as well, I think a skill queue of 5-6 skills would be excellent, it would benefit all players and especially people who have limited logon time or the possibility of not being able to logon at all. We are all paying a monthly fee or buying time cards so I think we should be able to set a queue to advance our skills in case we are unable to logon for skill changes...ya know the whole RL thing comes up at time :-)

I forgot to add:
Many people play eve because they want to be involved in a mmorpg but dont have the time to grind levels to progress.
Long skills are great for these poeple but they really miss out on the short skills, you must consider that even vets when they tyrain a new branch of skills have a bunch of lvl 1-4 to do, and a skill que would really boost these players (and attract more)

OP is born of win and post is filled with complete truth. If I pay for your game, I should definitely be able to play it in my own style. If that includes sleep training a huge list of skills when I go overseas and cannot log in, so be it. CCP should be happy that I am paying for the game and they have profited from the relatively small stress my new play style puts on their servers. Thanks Signed, Andre

Although people have lived without skill queues, it certainly has been a contributing factor towards people not wanting to play this game.
I took a 5 month break from Eve because I simply got sick of having to plan my life around my skill trainings. That time is lost, and I paid for it.
Now CCP goes and bans skill training from users who aren't paying... well if you're going to do that you should go the full mile and insure skill training for those who are paying. Anything less should cost you subscribers.
People don't play Eve to manage their skill training, they play to enjoy the game. Make it easier to fulfill that in reality and you'll have a MUCH happier fan base.
So please CCP, give us a skill training queue.

Hello, my name is bow locks.
I live in a future where war is eternal, flight through space and at sub-light speed is an everyday feature of life. I am one of many nearly invincible, immortal beings known as the pod-pilots. I fly ships that defy physics through a massive galaxy filled will all sorts of technological implants.I can over time, train skills through the use of implants, and a time filter mechanism. (like the matrix)
.... But it would simply be insane to want to make a list of things to train and have them execute. I should have to manually set every single one up. This ain't no fancy smancy future with high tech gizmos. I like my science fiction the old fashioned way. Tirelessly tedious and boring. DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING PLEASE! ESPECIALLY IF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAVE BEEN CRYING FOR THAT PERFECTLY LOGICAL CHANGE FOR FIVE YEARS NOW!!!

I'd vote for a skill queue of 1 so you could have you short skill plus a long one to fall back to. Would certainly help when downtime gets unexpectedly extended.
I'd also vote for concurrent training on character slots.
That said I'm glad ghost training has gone as I'm not in favour of the idea training a character without playing it which to me ghost training represents, or the idea of it being used as a means to just train characters to sell though there may be the issue that concurrent training could result in the same issues. |

Edited by: Raging Taurus on 24/10/2008 14:50:47 First of all, the removal of 'ghost' training didn't affect me at all. I do however have an observation which i would like to make.
The main justification which CCP provided for banning this form of training is the fact that players could train skills wihtout paying a subscription (a kinda of 'bug'); CCP concluded that this is unfair on them as a company as well as on other players who pay the subjscription. I therefore see 'lack of subscription' as the main problem with ghost training.
Without getting into whether these reasons are valid or not, I do believe that these same arguments should therefore support the idea of Skill Queue; since the lack of 'subscription' was the main problem with ghost training, I can't therefore see any problem, in principle, with Skill queue as long as there is an active subscription.
I do recall one argument against Skill queue; CCP didn't want people to simply set a long queue without contributing to the game and its economics. While this can be easily addressed by setting limits, I also believe that as long as an individual 'pays' for a subscription, it should be up to him / her to decide if and when they log on. In any case, in an economically driven real world we all live in, i really doubt people will be willing to pay subscriptions without getting anything in return. But we need to keep in mind that sometimes, we have to focus on RL issues and it might not always be possible for us to monitor skill progress and log on to avoid losing training time (which equates to real life money after all and not in game isk); This could get more complicated when people own multiple accounts.
EDIT: in conclusion, i am therefore in favour of Skill Queue

I'd be more than happy with a two-skill queue (that is, primary and secondary). That way I could train one 'inconvenient length' skill per day, while working on a long skill. For example, I could train a 6-hour skill backed by a three-week skill without having to wake up early to switch the skill before work.

A queue suggests that we want different skills lined up in a queue so a player can get away for weeks at an end and still get his training done. This suggestion is incomplete, misleading even, a queue can also be implicit for level 1-4 skills and apply only to the skill being trained. That way people don't have to stay up loosing sleep just to micromanage level1 -> level 2 -> level 3 -> level 4 transitions of a skill.
This is the major grief of not having a skill queue, EVE skill training dictating your life and body clock in order of not loosing in-game ability. The real change that is needed that will not be exploitable and will not add complexity to the game, but only a few lines of code is this:
On skill training complete: If ( level achieved < 4 ) then start training next level of the skill.
That is ALL!
If CCP finds this TOO much, we can follow a scheme like:
On skill training complete: If ( level achieved < 5 ) then start 48h timer and auto assume player wants to start training on the next level of the skill
On logon: wipe timer and stay training
On reaching 48h without logon abort training of skill, player did not explicitly started it, nor implicitly approved it by logging on.
Elegance all over it...it does solve the chores of changing skills (always a plus). Worst thing that can happen to a player is that staining on the next level started while you might not have wanted it, resulting in some unused skill points. Which is btw easily avoidable for people that log on regularly.
So CCP, no drawbacks....now get those hamsters to start working please! Why do I have to do all the thinking here!

Actually, that's exactly what most of us want. But we'll be marginally content with any lesser alternative too.

Here's all I want for Xmas CCP... A very simple request.
Please allow me a simple 24 hour window to queue up my next desired skill.
This would be so great because while I play a little throughout the week, my work schedule often conflicts with optimal login time. A simple 24 hour window to queue my next skill would make training so much more satisfying when I can't plan training to always end in the evening.

AS for unscheduled downtime... well you lose a few minutes or some hours of skill training. Yes, that is annoying but it is not a reason to make a massive change to the way EVE's training works. Signed, vehemently.
I may be only a month old in EVE, but no skill cue of any kind was completely puzzling to me from the very first moment. You make a game with the possibility of real time advancement, and you actively ADVERTISE this feature as distinguishing and advantageous compared to other online environments... and then you basically turn it into a major real-life disrupting agent and guaranteed irritation factor all in one, by not allowing any form of pre-scheduling or cueing.
If ghost skilling was the main/only reason, and it's gone now, there's absolutely no justification left for this anymore.
Please implement skill cueing.

YES! For sure. Got my vote. This is an important basic feature imo, I cannot understand how it is missing from a leading MMOG. Eve is not a flawless system (it runs on Windows Servers and MS-SQL ffs) - there will be downtime and people will lose time for no reason, that and the fact that most (normal) people cannot always change their skills when required. |

With shadow training gone it's only fair we get something instead. Besides, we are paying for every tick of the clock to train SPs so a skill queue would be much appreciated in case of unforseen internet issues (curses BT at times ) or other that make it impossible to log on and change skills. Not to mention the peace of mind of not having to stay up late while waiting on one skill or another to tick over before starting a long one for the night.

Oh yea. This is so getting my supports. 3 year old player here with an alt account around half that age and I still have to switch out skills on both accounts to try and keep from losing training time.
Even though its only mildly annoying, the annoyance hasn't diminished over time and having longer skills to train.
Thumbs up on the skill queue.

I too would love a queue system.
It doesn't have to be anything big because anything would be better than this. Today, we had a network outage. No big deal, it happens. ( I know, i work in IT) What does suck is that a skill ended when the servers were down. This part is what makes the outage a bigger deal than it should be.
I only lost about 45 minutes so its not really a big deal but it just puts a bad taste in my and no doubt, other people's mouths.
Ghost training is gone, so people won't use a skill trainig que to take advantage of it. Please, add a simple two que system. It would solve so many things.

this sounds rather commen, the truth is that they don't listend and only do it when people have gone so much berzerk over it that they start quitting, which in my eyes is totally out of order, since if you get very annoyid with a game some of the fun will be gone even if they correct it, you will have a bad tasted because of the memory of it... ___________________________________________ Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. Think of the new players! All those 9 minute/30 minute/2 h/6h skills that we have to train to catch up, it's really hard to fit them all in. (And this is as a uni student, god forbid someone with a JOB wants to try to start playing this game).

How about "I'm NOT online 2-4 hours every day and I have several L5 skills I don't absolutely need, but a lot of partially trained lower-level skills that I would need" ? My SHORTEST skill right now is at around 6 hours, and plenty more between 6 and 12 hours, skills I want trained at a higher level.
So, yeah, a skill queue IS needed, both for very young and very old players. The only players that don't really feel the need for one are the "half a year to a year" players, give or take a couple of months.

Yup, didn't feel the need for it as stronlgy as a very young player though, but that was because there was so much to train for that there was always something usefull to train. Now, I find myself training skills to LVL 5 I don't need at LVL 5 just because my skill points won't go to waste...

The reason why I support this idea is because it can have various positive effects.
Currently a lot of people probably log in just to change a skill and they idle for some time so they can activate the next skill training. If there is a queue, those people could queue their short training skills and just log in, set skills, and log out. CCP says they want people to play the game, but the people that login just to change a skill aren't playing anyway.
Another thing about this is that it will decrease the load on the servers a lot, because people don't have to stay logged in if they are doing some short training skills. Also the amount of players logged in will be more accurately.
You get the idea..
I support this thread - Although I would be satisfied with just having 2 or 3 queue slots, unlimited is really not needed.

There's have been countless ideas for this, and while I support the idea in general, it has to be worked out in specifics to work well.
I think the best solution I've seen is where you set a long skill as a secondary and a short one as a primary, and while the primary skill is training, it takes up 3/4 of your training speed, and the the long skill 1/4. Once the primary skill finishes, the secondary one trains at maximum speed until you select a new primary skill.
First, downside to using it is that neither skill trains as fast as it would alone. But on the upside if you D/C or there is an unscheduled DT, your long skill will kick in at full speed once the short skill finished. Also, It makes training up the ridiculously long skills palatable by making them be 'out of sight, out of mind' as it were. Carrier V anyone?
If it's implemented like this, I would so use it, and my skill training would cease to be interrupted by DTs, or connection issues, or even just plain forgetting. |

Lets say you have everything nice and planned. You have a 5 minute gap in your schedule where you can change skills, and a skill set to end in that time.
Just before you login the server goes down unexpectedly. You now have to wait at least 10 minutes before you can log back in, assuming an instant reboot. But in 5 minutes, you have to leave.
If you have a queue of sufficient length, this problem won't happen. ---------------------------------------------- I support skill queues. |

Needed...the game is so skill intensive (perhaps a little too much, but CCP needs your money) and you don't get any kind of experience points. Mostly I train log skills while logged out, but some unexpected work/family issue can make you lose a day or a week sometimes.
Now that Certificates exist (even though they are a bit broken), they are the obvious place to put the skill queue interface. Better yet let corps define their own ceritifcates based on what skills they think really matter, rather than CCP - I mean, who uses multitasking when relatively few ships will let you have more than 6 targets anyway? Most people don't need it, but apparently it's a 'core' skill now. Sure.

I'll add my name to this petition... a skill queue would be beneficial. A cheap alternative would be the ability to automatically continue training the next level of current skill (this could be a skill-training setting, perhaps?)
OR... and here's something to make certificates perhaps more worthwhile to advanced players...
Allow the ability to enroll for a certificate. You'd have to ensure you have all the skillbooks, of course, but if you start training the certificate, it would automatically queue those skills for you till the cert was done. (If this idea was somewhere in pages 3 thru 12 on this forum, I apologize... I didn't read every post on every page.)

That is completely false... as a new player with practically only 3hour and 6 hour skills, I was missing training time a LOT. Now that I have lots of multi-day skills, I miss training time a lot less.

New players best way to catch up is to **** off the older players so that they leave the game, which is exactly what CCP seems to be doing.

This may have been mentioned before, but I didn't feel like searching through 12 pages of postes to find it.
How about a new Learning skill to que skill trainig. Each level adds an additional que slot.
no LVL = Train one at a time LVL 1 = que 1 LVL 2 = que 2 LVL 3 = que 3 LVL 4 = que 4 LVL 5 = que 5
This way you can have one skill training and be able to que up to 5 additional skills.

Then you must also check the thumbs up box ;)
anyway just found this - doesnt look good :(
In the same thread: "Skill queue: As I said in the Live Dev Blog yesterday that's just something we were talking about and one of the risk factors we had to keep in mind. We're not really decided upon if we want a skill queue or not and it's something that requires some serious thought on our part. I'll see if I can't get CCP Hammer to answer this question in more detail. " and
"Ghost training: I can't comment on that at this point, sorry. Currently however there are no plans to implement a skill queue or multiple simultaneous skill trainings. "
Thats a bit contradictive?
Just say Yes or No *sigh*
Keeping players hopes up and then just letting them hang there instead of just saying there will be none is contraproductive. |

This game has the special feature of training your character while you are not online. We all know it's a really unique feature compared to most (if not all) mmorpgs out there. I support having some kind of queue feature for this game. Since ghost training was nerfed it would be good to have a long queue list ready to train as long as your account is paid. I suggest a long queue because of all the possible reasons why a player might not be able to log in (like mentioned on some of the previous replies on this topic). I strongly believe that it will only beef up this game's reputation and add to the unique qualities this mmorpg already has. I love this game!!!

Hmmm, posted the exact same idea in the "Features and Ideas Discussion" here:
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=929647
Didnt find a similar thread there, but noticed one in here instead. Allthough, why is it here and not in that section? Anyway, ill give my support here, and link to this topic in that thread aswell then. :) |

This is probably already mentioned, but want to note it into this thread:
Have training to a specific certificate. So you just select training for the certificate, all skills on the certificate are trained, and balanced it by having a trade-off of cycle-training the pre-requisite skills.
By cycle training the skills, I mean: Train all pre-reqs level 1, then all level 2 etc., so nothing gets to the pre-req required level, until all other required skills are at the pre-req required level -1.
Then it's not useful for training level 5 skills repeatedly, but is useful for training where you have lots of short skill changes, or inconvenient ones.

A skill queue would really be nice so long as there are limitations on it to prevent abuse. For those of us who can't log on during the day because of work/school, it really sucks to try and micromanage skills so that they all end during that little bit that we can play in the evening. Maybe allow it to go 24 or 48 hours, since that should be more than enough time if you have a whole bunch of little skills that need to be trained. Anything that'd take longer than that wouldn't really be a big deal anyway.

Quoting someone that doesn't have a life.
If you have a life (job/school/friends/family/other games), you will definately have at least 5 skills on each character with a few hours left of training that you just can't get round to training a lot of the time! So 99% of the EVE playerbase will support this, as they are all cool people with lives outside EVE.

1 - Do you have any evidence to back up your claims of CCP's intent with the skill queue beyond "it would make a good argument against a skill queue". 2 - If so, please also explain why CCP didn't bring it up when they talked about skill queues at this CSM meeting ? 3 - CCP's intent with skill training is irrelevant. The important fact is that the current skill training system rewards people who can log in for a quick skill change and/or people who don't have unexpected things happening outside of Eve to delay skill changes.

I'm in favor of a limited Queue, maybe up to 24 hours ahead, or no more than 1 additional skill. Or maybe have a "Queuing" Skill that gives one additional queue slot per level.
But for all of you who are saying there's no reason for an unlimited queue: there is. You shouldn't be able to advance that far in any game without ever logging in. EVE is already miles ahead of other games that require you to mindlessly grind away to raise skills; thats one of its big drawing points IMO. But is it SO much to ask that you actually play the game once in a while to switch your skills?
I get that RL stuff comes up. Thats why I'm in favor of a small queue. But I really can't advocate a system where someone could set up training and come back 3 months later with massive amounts of new skills, with zero effort. "But I pay my monthly fee!" Yes, you do. That money pays for servers and devs and what not, and gives you access to the games content. It DOESN'T necessarily entitle you to do whatever you want, or to dictate the rules of the game. The Dev's have decided they don't want people to be able to skill gain THAT effortlessly, so thats the way it is. And I like it that way.
But, to reiterate again, I AM in favor of a skill queue of some kind, just not the unlimited/nigh-unlimited kind some have proposed.

Use your fk'n brains and not evemon for a change.
If you cannot create a long term flexiable training plan and switch training to a longer skill before you log when required so you don't waste the opportunity to progress you quite frankly don't deserve too.
In eve not paying attention costs you personally in every other aspect of the game and we live with the harsh consequences, skill training needs that too.

It's pretty asinine to suggest that it takes skill to log in and start training the next 1-2 month long skill when the last one finishes. I'm quite able to change skills manually, but after having done it for a few years, I really don't see the necessity of it.

I for the life of me can't understand the reasoning for not having one now that the skills stop training when you stop paying. Allowing every paying customer to queue up as many skills as they want puts everyone on equal footing as skill training goes.

After reading the thread, this is the post to which I feel compelled to reply.
Anyone can start training a longer skill when they log out. The point is that they shouldn't have to.
Players should be able to train for the things they want to train for. It's that simple. |

You don't 'have' to. You can let your skill finish if you want, then start training again when you log back in. The only option you don't currently have is the lazy one where little pixie fairies change your skill for you when it's done.

Isn't this what you pay for. Skill training is the only long term time related event in EVE. Hence if you are not training you are not getting what you paid for. On the other hand CCP make money out of people who forget to update their training whilst on holiday etc. so they will be very reluctant to do it.
I fully support a training queue of about 5 skills.

So many people have been asking for this for a long time. Now that ghost training is disabled there is no reason not to have it.
To the rant claiming we are not intelligent enough to plan our own skills and we just you evemon, stfu. Seriously the world runs on efficency and ease of use. Not everyone has time to monitor their skills or maybe things come up and you cant get onto the game. If we are paying what is the problem? No, I am not incapable of setting a long skill, but I could save myself a lot of time on a specific path if I just had a one or two skill queue!

I'm supporting this because I know that it won't be met as stated, but might result in a compromise (at least a "train next level" option).
CCP's original reason of giving players a reason to login isn't good enough to deny this. A more honest answer might be, "Because we don't want to." I'd even consider that acceptable. If they say, "Because it goes against our design philosophy" I'd even respect them for it-- if they then explained the design philosophy in-depth.
In fact, with the number of people in Eve (a number I don't remember ever being contemplated when Eve was released) I'd say that they have a good reason to not necessarily want people logging in just to change skills.
Back when Eve was sparkly and new and nobody knew what to expect, and the game peaked at under 5K people a day, I accepted the notion that it was to drive player behavior to actually log into their accounts. With the end of ghost training, though, it is entirely equitable that they offer us this in return. It isn't their "duty" or their "responsibility." But it is a fair exchange.

A skill queue would make getting a life possible and remove any excuse I may have for doing so.
I favor the ideas, whether original or not, of Ddredar (i.e. The addition of a new skill, perhaps in the Learning category, for Skill Queue Training) and also of Serenity Steele (i.e. a skill queue driven by certificate goals).
In addition to these two Great ideas, I suggest that when a player has not trained a skill or logged on within eight hours (negotiable), that the account be flagged as inactive. In this way, a player is only charged for the time during which skill training and game play occurs. CCP will surely love this idea and it will likely only require a few lines of code.
I look forward to seeing you in the new year.

At least you can ensure that any emergency won't leave you losing training time.
This is especially useful to new characters with very short skill times. How many people want to get up 3 hours after going to bed because that's the longest skill they can train.
Losing a couple of hours later on isn't so bad because the shortest skill could take days or even weeks. At the start it makes a lot of difference because two or three hours can mean two or three skill levels. To become competetive in this game, you need a lot of those basic rank 1 and 2 skills up as high as possible.

Also signed, no real reason not to, would just make it much less of a hastle and it would mean we could put up skills we want to train for longer periods of time. e.g. you know you want to train skill A which is 12 hours. You know you'll be able to log onto Eve in around 16 hours. You therefore pick skill C which is less useful to you only because it'll get trained for the whole duration. Freakin' annoying.
Saying 'we want people to log in' is also stupid because if you're just logging in to change skill, chances are, you'll log right back out after a few seconds. Just an inconvenience many players could do without.

As previously stated i dont care if its a definable queue or a keep working till you hit 5 queue.
My computer is down and i have agreed with a firend to allow me onto his puter for the sake of skill training on both my accounts. very irritating for me as i have to go around to his house at odd times and do stupid math to figure out how best to order them in order to not have to wake him and his wife up at 3 in the morning.
Throw into that several hrs delay due to unexpected problems it just adds to the frustration on what is already a frustrating process that can be completely eliminated by a queue of some description. EX Nano *** since 2006 |

I would love to see a skill queue come up soon. As I am going to be joining the Army very, very, soon, I would love to be able to have something that i can set like 5 30+ day skills so I don't have to worry about having someone else do it for me. Just something, unlimited would be nice but limited, like 5 skills total, come on. That would make people like me want to keep my account active even when I'm going to be gone for long periods of time. Either that or I will be forced to just let my account go away until I get back one day.

This would be an awesome feature as there are allot of really short skills to be trained.
Can set rank 1 skills to train to 5 without having to wait an hour for level 3 of the skill.

I agree. Due to work hours and needing to sleep at night, it becomes a pain when skills get into the last 24 hours!
The abilitiy to queue just one single skill would be great. Not really bothered about multiple queues, I just hate having to put skills on hold when they are in their last 24 hours till I have a day off from work so I can finish it! ------------------------

maybe a 1-2 skill backup just in case we miss the end of training this could be done manually,
so if you skill trining finishes at 03:00 you can set a back up skill which takes you to 07:00 maybe lvls 1-3 we should be kept alert of training and i dont think it should be all done for us 100% Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former - Albert Einstein

Edited by: Cygnus Scott on 29/12/2008 17:52:23 A skill queue would be very much appreciated. I literally have 60 seconds left on a skill because I had to switch to another so that I wouldn't lose the training time on another skill while I was at work. I was already running late and couldn't waste anymore time.
A queue that allows X amount of skills and/or Y amount of total training time. Two consecutive skills exceeding 16 hours or multiple skills that do not exceed 16 hours.
For example:
I can queue up two skills, one skill that takes 5 hours and another skill that takes 2 days but no more skills after that. Also I'd be able to queue up multiple short skills but total training time could not exceed 16 hours.
That way if a skill is set to end an hours after I have to leave for work I can have the skill finished and ready for me to use or benefit from when I get home without losing hours of training while I'm at work or switching to another skill and then having to wait an hour of my time after I get home and switch back to finish training.
For those of us with obligations like work and family this would be invaluable to have. I spend about 12 hours a day at work and commuting to and from it and I'd love to knock out a few skills that are less than 12 hours while I'm at work.
The greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist. |

I don't think that at least two skills or 24 hours (pick one) would harm much (the issue CCP seem to have with players not logging in becoming less interested in the game), since it means that players still would have to login almost as often, just at more convenient time (and probably more likely to play as a result ! )
The financial side of the problem has certainly been removed without ceremony so I can not see any reason why we can't have this now.

I like the idea of having a primary training skill and a secondary training skill, so that if both are going at the same time it trains them at half pace, but once one finishes, it switches the other to full sp usage. Or even a 1 skill queue I would take.
Other then that I'm not so into the skill queue thing. |

What about not having a queue, but instead having a back-up skill, or secondary skill that you can assign that trains should the first finish?
Quote: Example: Set Minmatar Frigate 1 to train for your first time, assign a Level V skill to train as secondary/backup. When the first finishes, the second begins. You can only assign another 'backup' after the second skill has started training.
Esentially, you can easily burn off those small skills, albeit one at a time, without worrying about getting up at 0300hrs to set a skill. Then again at 0328hrs.
You then only have to worry about having at least 8-9hrs skills laying about.
As it stands, I sometimes have to remote desktop my PC from work to set small skills to burn off, which can be a pain in the ass. A little queue would go a LONG way! |

if you want to create a skill train tree till the end of time then never bother with skills again i don't see a problem as long as its only 1 character per account and it only trains while the account is active. but it would require some sort of area on the website for you to import your skill list.
some people have mentioned using the new certificates system as built in skill tree training.. but why not go as far as ship train trees. some may be wanting to train to fly a raven. it would automatically train all the recommended certifications for that ship.

Doesn't a wildly used third party App show that there is a problem with the skill training system ?
How do you plan for the unexpected events ? Because if you can answer this last question, you are doing much better than anyone else who is telling us to plan our skills without telling us how to plan for unexpected things.
Also, who was asking for ghost training to be removed ? Be sure to link us to your proof, as I'm not aware of anyone commenting on it until after CCP removed it. |

I thoroughly support this system, even if it is only a single skill queue, or next level of finished skill.
This system does not make ingame experience less complexes or 'easier', does not put hardcore/'active' players at disadvantages, or heck..if you don't want to use it..you don't lose anything too. If you rather stayed up late at night to train next skill, or juggle skills everytime you want to sleep/away from EVE, kudos to you....this system won't prevent you from doing that.
But the rest of us would really appreciate this system.
Please CCP! :)

Every time I have suspended my account I have indicated lack of a skill queue as the reason because it was the reason. I needed a break from the game so why keep my subscription unless I'm gaining something from it?
I fully support an extensive skill queue. It is good for me as a player and good for CCP as a company. As it stands I will only subscribe for the 1 or 2 least busy months of the year when I know I have time to play. If there were an unlimited skill queue I could just leave my subscription active without feeling like I'm wasting money and log on whenever I have free time.
And as Akita T points out: "The one and only logical reason for NOT having a skill queue in the first place has vanished."
So please either put ghost training back to the way it was or add an unlimited skill queue to make casual gamers like me happy. Or just ignore the problem and save me some money in the process. :P |

Originally by: barvo Why, of course, y'know how everyone uses EFT? There must clearly be something wrong with the way every single piece of ship equipment works that we have to play around in EFT to work out our fittings.
No, it just means that the equipment interactions are too complex for most players to do in their heads. So my suggestion to fix the problems that EFT shows is for CCP to make an official version. Though that would be a waste of time as it wouldn't do anything that EFT doesn't.
But a skill queue would add functionality that Evemon can't.
Quote: Oh and I think Windows needs to be changed because I need my third party mouse to make it work. And yeah, the remote control to my TV needs some love from the developers too, I had to go to Big W for some third party batteries yesterday.
There is a difference between something being designed to require third party support (you examples here) and something that had third party support show up afterwards.
Quote: So basically, no mate, just because we use Eve Mon doesn't mean there's anything wrong.
Now could you answer the other point in my post: How do you plan for the unexpected events ? Because it is really the more important one as Evemon can only deal with the events you know about in advance. ---------------------------------------------- I support skill queues |

Please please put a word in so that they don't implement it as a "train for this certificate" option. (It was mentioned at fanfest). A major portion of the fun in eve is the offline planning (in this case, picking the skills yourself). Those who want to train for a cert can just add those skills to the queue themselves :)
Also, great to hear that they have noticed the unwashed masses :D |

Your name says it all.
The skill que isn't there to tell me what skills to train next. I don't need EVE-Mon to do that for me smart-ass.
The Skill-que is there because I can't always log-on when I'm at a university doing things with my life just to change a skill so I'm not wasting skill training time. Which by the way we frakking pay for.
Even 1 extra skill would do the trick, and would take little or no extra coding. |

D*** STRAIGHT!
Its about time! When are we gonna see a real action about this?
Also, as Aikita said, please let us train skills in the order WE want - no on doing some sort of sillly certificate system ploy (stupid addition to the game anyways) |

chatgris, Akita: my bad. Sorry.
I agree with what chatgris said about letting us choose our own skills as opposed to following the certificates. |

If the queue comes in the form of certificates it would be like CCP laughing out loud in your face....

This really should be part of the game. Not having to grind is one of the DEFINING features of EVE. Its a Casual MMO'ers dream. Why make us slaves to the logging in to switch my skill in the middle of the night. Thats not fun, thats work, and this is a game made for enjoyment. A limited skill queue at worst...
