This is absolute crap. First losing drones in missions or plexes and now a ship at a gate camp because of this socket error closed then being told by a GM its my internet fault when there were a total of 5 accts from a total of three pc's two with physical connection and one with wireless going on my network and I was the only one dropped. |

I had this issue prior to the last patch. However, it had mainly gone away since the last patch. It has resurfaced today. I have checked wiith pingplotter and ccp isp is showing a 40% packet loss on their connection. |

The problem with that Theory is that we've always had this problem....
I've never had this problem till just a couple of weeks ago.
AND ITS GETTING WORSE
I had this damned socket closed on me 6 times in an hour today! |

Since last night (feb 04) my connection keeps dropping. I tried reinstalling EVE, deleting my cache, reseting my router, using the 3724 port instead of 26000, but nothing helps.
I am using Vista 64 bit and a dlink wireless router, EVE ports are open and its up to date.
I used PingPlotter and traced 87.237.38.200, looks like I have a HUGE packet loss and latency on ldn-bb2-pos7-1-0.telia.net (213.248.65.93)
I rarely crash from downtime to about 22:00 eve time, then it starts crashing more and more. At the moment its 02:00 EVE time and my client crashes every 10 minutes or so, its unplayable.
I lost a vagabond and a pod with HG Snake set and 5% hardwirings worth over 1 bil because of this problem... I crashed, my ship has been probed, I log back in and my pod warp back to where my ship has been popped, in a bubble...
I hope CCP can reimburse this loss, anyone know what is their policy regarding losses caused by this problem ??

I don't think CCP have an explanation for it tbh.
It seems completely random, for you it happens between 22:00 and downtime, for me it happens between server startup at 14:00 game time. From 14:01 onward its fine.
I don't know how to do a ping plotter though so i can't help anyone.
I just want it to be fixed. Crashed 5 times so far since start up... 5 times in 35 minutes.... and I missed a True Sansha Battleship because of it :( I started shooting it, got disconnected, When i got back in someone else was already killing it and it popped just as i got back into belt. Bumma. |

Im getting this also, using PingPlotter, every time I get "Socket closed", it reports packets lost on CCP's servers (ccp-ic-* and the ip that my EVE client is connecting to (87.237.38.200) ). So this problem is obviously not caused by anything that I could influence, anyway for my case that is.
I'll make sure to petition CCP if I ever lose even a single ISK due to that.
But anyway I'dd love for it to be something as simple as a software error :D |

Having the same issues here too. Ever since the QR patch.
It's gotten unplayable during the weekends. It seems that's when it gets the worst.
And CCP isn't even acknowledging it as a problem. It would be nice to hear something. |

Just checked out a few things.
Total War Empires is coming out the 3rd of march. Guess when my subscription to EVE will end ??
CCP's handling of this matter has been to stick their head in the sand, cut and paste inane solutions and then finally cop out and ask us to Beta Test QR expansin all the while paying for it.
Well, no more. I'll keep perusing the Forums and once they get their heads out of the cornchute and fix this, I'll return in triumph. Until then I give them that very special 1 finger salute...And it ain't a thumbs up

The above hop does not look healthy at all. Granted ICMP is at low priority, the inability for the host to provide a response to an ICMP query to that degree is an obvious indicator that it is overwhelmed with other operations. ____________________ CCP: Catering to the cowards of a cold, harsh universe since November, 2006. |

Dear CCP
Hi, How are you, I hope the weather is nice in Iceland and that recent political & financial troubles aren't causing too much strain. I am just dropping by to say that I'd like to be able to log into your internet spaceship game ( and probably blow up because I'm pretty terrible at pvp ) because right now my buddies are having a blast and also I'd like to be able to change skills. I had a problem there for a day or two a couple of weeks back and I submitted ping plotter & logserver logs and I got a nice email back saying that it was a known bug and was being looked into. That's cool, especially since after then I had a week and a bit where my problem seemed to go away, but now for the past 5 days it has been back with a vengence and steadily getting worse. I say worse because initially I'd have to relog after 30 minutes or so of gameplay but now I don't make it past the character selection screen. It's a bit frustrating as I'm sure you can imagine and I hope there is a solution in the works.
Yours sincerely ZombyDog

Edited by: Juliana Wetmore on 09/02/2009 08:46:50 P.S Actually, after writing my missive I was able to be logged in long enough to change skills, but not long enough to check my mail or manage more than a hola in 319 local. To be frank though, I'd like to be able to log in long enough so that I may join in with my brosefs and make some explosions.
Yours Sincerely ZombyDog ( and alt )

Ok i have been having this issue for the better part of 2 months now and I found a solution that has been working for me for the past week or so. If I run the CCP Logserver Utility while playing I connect (and stay connected for that matter) like before this whole mess began.
I havent changed anything other than running the utility so I can only assume that this helps with the problem.
Hope this helps some of you at least. If not, well.....at least im connecting

For me it it helped insofar that I could log the point that I'd get the socket being closed and generate a report for CCP but that's as far as it went. It didn't help keep the connection open or necessarily help me get to the character select screen. |

As an interesting aside - I do not appear to have these problems on the Test Server, no drama connecting and staying connected.

The number one cause for this to happen is that your ISP is traffic shaping you. If it isn't that, then I can't help you, and skip the rest of this post. Close down extra programs that use your internet. Chat, browser, Bittorrent.
When too much usage is going on or too many connection attempts at once happen, your ISP may be just dropping a few packets here and there or closing extra sockets.
Its happening all to often now days. Normally you only notice P2P traffic affected as they usually just check the headers of packets and drop heavy loads from them. but maybe CCP is using something that ISPs traffic shaping programs don't like.
Depending on your software, OS, NIC drivers and settings, this may be too transparent to tell what the real cause is. as droping down to classic client may be freeing up a little CPU time for the onboard network card users to respond slightly faster (read just fast enough to stop this from happening) at resending failed/incomplete acks (acknowledgments) and other packet types depending on your network.
