I know this may not help all. But I was having similar problems. Changed router, chased ISp, frankly drove them up the wall, and finally called an engineer in to look at the wiring. It turned out (no problems since hopefully) that it was degraded phone cabling, not actually anywhere near my PC. I suspect now that the socket closed error is being caused by a multitude of things. It may be CCP, but it may not.

Very much my experience too. In my case it was the router. But... as other mmos (including the much ridiculed wow) work flawless with the old hardware I'd rather blame ccp's network code. It seems to be not stable enough to cope with network environments other mmos have no problems with.

Ok, whatever the problem was, I'm no longer recieving "Socket Closed" errors... I WAS able to log in for a few seconds, but now when I start the game the first window comes up and the music starts, then, when the log-in screen should appear I get nothing (the first window which pops up when the music starts disappears and the music continues but no log in screen)
I have sent several messages to tech support and have recieved NO response... If not resolved soon I will just cancel my script and go back to my 360 (sure I had problems with it too, but they at least attempted to help [not very well, but at least they tried])

Was fine before the patch, I can play any other game, surf the web etc with no disconnects.
Now no matter what I try, changed router, changed modem, changed ethernet card, tried all different kinds of settings, I get disconnected every 8 min.
Seems that after 38 pages without a response from CCP it seems that its not a real priority for them.

Yes, ccp could use some coaching regarding customer relations ;). Anyway, according to the patch notes for 1.5.1 they got to the core problem for desyncs - and that sounds like the key to our problem here. So let's hope for next wednesdays patch, it might solve this issue.

Noticed that in the patch notes as well, I'm truly praying that it'll help.
How's this for an interesting twist, I have been getting all the same socket closed crashes every 2-5 minutes as you all. When I dual account though, it only happens to one account at a time. One account is completely lagged out and closes the socket, while the other account is perfectly normal.
I have stopped believing the problem is on my end... The NEW M.Corp Data Hub - Check it out! |

After several messages back-and-forth between myself and tech support I recieved a message telling me that "it seems you have a very serious problem. You should maybe try to delete your cache folder and see if that helps" I found this a bit amuzing, however I tried it anyway..
I am now playing with no problems at all...
Granted it's only been this evening but still, going from 2 minutes until crash to 10 seconds until crash to crash before login and finally ariving at playing for a few hours straight with no problems is good in my book...
So, yes, tech support needs some serious customer-relations training, but they do seem to eventually come up with an answer...

found this is the tech support on the site here....
{This tracert gives you the ping or connection latency at each point it uses to connect to the server, if any of these entries contain latency (shown in ms) above 250 ms as well as high packet loss or packet errors, then you can expect that server connection can be lost occasionally. If this is the case, then there is nothing that we can do about it but we recommend that you contact your Internet Service Provider and inform them about the problem.}
going to try that after labor day weekend

Again, just when i was having such a non socket is closed day, it hits me right when i was moon probing again. Seriously either give an explanation for this problem and fix it or don't release patches that keeps causing problems while you don't properly test it. |

The problem for me appears to be the 87.237.36.22 node. Right before the tranquility server. It routinely gives me a lag spike of up to 450ms. All the other hops behave normally.

Edited by: Bulldog Maximus on 08/09/2009 21:25:53 Edited by: Bulldog Maximus on 08/09/2009 21:25:31 Add one more into the list with the socket loss problem:
Set-up Newer laptop - Sony Vaio, 6 months old, 3 GB ram dual processor brand new 3 week old Belkin - Wireless-N Router with 4-Port Switch Windows Vista AT&T DSL
Already checked DirectX for updates as well. No other known connection issues, haven't lost regular internet connection that I have noticed.
I'll go a day or two with no problems, some days socket loss every couple of hours, some days go for an hour and then lose it every few minutes. There seems to be no ryhme or reason to the problem. Naturally it is usually during a PVE mission, thankfully not during a PVP yet.
I've read several pages of this forum and tried various ideas, any new thoughts or repeat thoughts I missed are appreciated.
Thanks

LOL... CCP is giving us the run around. One node going to 450 should not cause you to drop. It's stuff like this that causes me to lose faith in CCP's side of the story.

Also having this problem as of today. Was fine yesterday before the patch, now none of my clients will maintain a connection for more than a few minutes at a time. Very irritating since effectively I can't play the game.
Connection works fine, it's just an EVE problem, and it only started happening after I installed the 1.5.1 patch.

I'm happy to report that I found the solution to the socket-closed problem. All I did was simply close my EVE client and go outside, and presto! No more socket closed problems.
Seriously, CCP. Fix this or do something about it. The game is unplayable like this. I've been a loyal customer for quite awhile, and I can't enjoy or even play the game at all like this.
Ask yourselves, how long would YOU continue to pay for this game, if you can't play it, even as good as EVE is.

Ok for some of you this might work.
I suffered from socket closed error a lot but could not figure out why. Internet was still on, was able to browse but the eve client kept closing.
I reported the issue to my ISP and after some back and forth chat they suggested i turn Interleaving back on. This is a proccess that stablises high speed broadband conections, removing faults from the signals etc.
With Interleaving turned back on i have had no socket errors. Stopped, gone, fixed.
It could be that the eve clients fault tolerances for data/packs or what ever have been made very low and for some people their broadband connection is just too unstable with interleaving off for the client to handle.
Downside, my ping now sucks for online fps Thats its down side.

Yeah, I never had the socket closed problem, until this last patch. Only thing I could try was to turn off Fastpath. Like you I have had no further problems, with the more stable line Eve is quite happy (though I never had a problem till patch), though I am sad at the slightly lower speed and higher ping.

Adding one more to the socket closed problem.
Its rather annoying because I NEVER had this problem until this recent 1.5 patch.
My Set-Up Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.4GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Hard Drive: 250 GB Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series Monitor: Asus 24" HD Widescreen Sound Card: Speakers (Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 ) Speakers/Headphones: Creative HS-600 Keyboard: Saitek Cyborg Keyboard (HID) Mouse: Saitek Cyborg Mouse (USB) Operating System: Windows VistaÖ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.090302-1506) Motherboard: P5N-D
Had the issue whilst fighting just now... engaged a Vexor, Rupture and Rifter, Once Vexor popped and ruppy was in like 1/2 armor It flashed up "socked closed" but left my game open just not doing anything other then like a 5 second loop... closed and re-logged and warped to a safe spot and got "socket Closed" again... not happy

Yup, as I've posted in two other threads now I'm having this socket closed error as well. Logs show Winsock Error 10054 ("Connection forcibly reset by remote host") when it occurs. Occurs (for me) when idle for more than 4 minutes, or jumping, or docking/undocking, or forming fleet/warping to member of fleet.

This 'socket closed' issue has never happened with me before yesterday. Now I get random crashes. Even if I run 2 accounts, one gets 'socked closed' while the other is perfectly fine.

Hey all. I had the exact same problem, but seem to have found a fix for it. I run "PingPlotter" in the background. Seems it keeps the socket "open".
I use the following settings: Address to trace: 87.237.38.200, # of times to trace: Unlimited, Trace Interval: 2.5 sec., Samples to include: 1500.
Check it out and see if it works for you.

Interleaving is handled by your ISP and should be on by default in the UK, from what i understand. Gamers tend to get it turned off so their pings drop, but the downside is unstable connection sometimes.
I had no problems until apoch 1.5 patch, so i guess what ever they did in the backgroud to the clients set it off.
Had no disconnects from eve since getting it turned back on.
THe fastpath thing i have not heard of, try google it.

Sorry, dropped that term, assumed it was in common use. Fastpath is just the name for'interleaving off', so just another name for what you are refering too.
To emphasise, since the last patch, Eve seems more susceptible to any (slight) instabilities in my internet connection. Since turning Interleaving back on (via my ISP), I have absolutely no more issues with 'Socket Closed'.
