While I haven't got these issues at all, I feel sorry for you guys who do. I've been around EVE for eight years now so I've gone through similar issues a couple of times. Most of the times it's actually been outside of CCPs area - as in the ISPs very close to the servers.
There are a lot of technicians etc in the playerbase and it tends to go faster if you put the information public rather than sending it over to CCP only. So why not do both?
Do a tracert from your computer to 87.237.38.200 - this'll allow everyone to find the common factors (if there are any) between you all. Again, the last time that I remember this happening it turned out to be a major screwup with Tiscali. So do the tracert, post the results here. Also do the pingplotter thing and keep it running so there's some nice data around the events. Upload the image to a site that can host it (ImageShack maybe?) and post the URL here.
I did the above mentioned things, and noticed that when my packets are running through they end up beeing routed through two different routers inside Tiscaly. One of them resulting in a 20% packet loss - but it's only taking this route on every 3rd or 4th try.
The one that works is xe-1-0-0.lon20.ip.tiscali.net [89.149.186.81], the one that doesn't work is xe-2-0-0.lon20.ip.tiscali.net [89.149.186.85]. Both of these are the router that's handing over trafic to Telecity - the service provider that CCP seems to be using in London.
Obviously - when the packet loss occurs, the ping results on the later routers goes into crazy mode. I'm having results of all the way up to 302ms. I guess this could explain why, recently, I'm having tiny freeze ups in the game every so often. I don't get disconnected, it just "pauses" my display/input for a second or two.
So to stick to what I've just posted ..

While posting this, I also noticed a third router beeing used at Tiscaly - this one has packet loss as well, but not as severe (between 3-5%). That one's inlucded on the pingplotter view. It's constantly my 7th hop that's changing around - so for me it's a very clear indicator that it's Tiscaly causing my issues.

Seems after running pingplotter while logging in, once i've left the character select screen and entered game, i get huge packet loses.. up to about 70-80%, then 100% and the game gets socket closed error.

Using wireless connection I can't stay logged on for more than 1 minute. It's impossible to PvP like that. Even if I change to wire connection, it's still pretty bad. I can't be 30 minuts without getting a disconnect. The most annoying part is I don't realise it happened until I notice something not responding.

So far I have gotten the spam disconnects to stop even though I set my router to allow 26000. -
I use Windows Vista: Ultimate, Press Windows Key + R. I put in: %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\CCP\EVE
I installed Eve on my E drive, so I looked for this directory: e_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility if its on your C drive, it'll be c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility. Click on the directory, then click on settings, then the prefs.ini file. Where it says port, change it to 3724 instead of 26000. Then start up your Eve client and you should be using the other port.
I STILL personally believe its CCPs fault, as I see my ping double once it hits telecity and even then it varies from 120-750.

I still get a socket closed error after logging in even on the other port... has to be CCP if this only started recently after the last patch. ---------------------------

The Client's Socket closes for me. 3 hours to ten minutes after log on. One time I've had to reset my router to clear something which had latched up. That's not been something I've had to do to this router for over a year. I run two clients, and have for several years. This problem seems to have started for me after one of the recent patches. If I recall correctly, about two months ago.
It really worries me that I might be disconnect during an engagement and I'll lose ships! Are my ships instantly 'vanished?' .. or do they time out over a couple of minutes? And is their loss something I could get reimbursement for?
Just another thought.. Why is is only a part of the Eve Population being effected?
I live in west coast of USA, if that's any consideration in this issue.

For those of you that use routers - Make sure that your router is allowing 3724 & 26000 to your computer based upon what port you are using. It's really amusing though. After I got this fixed (I've had petitions open for a bit now), I set the rating to 0 and got a reply extremely quick. Found it funny Could just be coincidence

Opening the ports on your router doesn't do anything... Atleast for me anyway... FIX THIS CCP!!!!!! Atleast give us some sort of status update, a reply in the thread, something! ---------------------------

I'm unsure as to if this is allowed, but this is what was told to me:
Hi there,
Those issues are being investigated and worked on by our developers. To find out what is causing you to crash or drop from the server we will need some more information about your computer a log of your connectivity with the server. That will enable us to better analyze why this is happening to you and hopefully enable us to take the actions required to fix it.
The first thing I would like to you try is to restart your router and see if you still experience this problem after that. To make sure that your router is completely restarted and refreshed it would be best if you could unplug it from the power source and make sure to wait at least 30 seconds before plugging it in and turning it on again.
In order to thoroughly test your connection to the EVE server then I recommend that you download a program called pingplotter which is available here http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_2.exe If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work. After starting up pingplotter do the following in the program:
1) Under "Address to trace" put the following value in the box: 87.237.38.200 2) In the bottom left corner in the box "# of times to trace" put the value 1500 3) In the bottom left corner in the box "Trace Intervals" change it to 2.5 seconds 4) In the bottom left corner in the box "Samples to include" change it to 1500. 5) Click on "Trace" button in the bottom left corner.
When it's completed save it as the sample set ( pp2 ). Once you have saved the file, you can attach it to the petition through the "My petitions" interface on our website and send us.
Once we have this information we will hopefully be able to determine the cause of this problem.

Well this probably won't help anyone, but just adding a bit of what happened with me into the mix.
I use an Aircard to connect to the internet, and it's connected to my PC via a USB cable. I was having these same random drops and "socket closed" as whats described on this thread.
The other night my printer (USB) ran out of paper, so I turned it off completely cause I was sick of the little green flashy light. Then I closed the Image Monitor that comes with the printer.
After turning off my printer and closing that software, my drops have gone away. Where before I would disconnected sometimes 5 or 6 times an hour I am down to 0. I can now once again play several hours at a time with no sudden drops.
Maybe it was a USB resource conflict, maybe it was a conflict with the HP Image Monitor Software, or maybe it was a problem with the HP printer itself. I don't know, all I know is once the printer and that software is gone, everything is fine.
Oh, and just like everyone else I was only losing connection to EVE, not Ventrillo or anything else, and it started in force after the last major software update.
Just wanted to throw that in the mix.

Just putting my name on the list here as this issue started for me 3 or 4 days ago. The hours following DT seem to be the worst, after 8pm GMT the drops seem less infrequent, but the game is still unplayable. Its 50/50 wether I can log back in following a drop, it just hangs on the "entering space" popup with a black background. As far as my corp can tell im back online (im in local, in corp chat etc), but im sat on the black screen waiting. A corp mate was at my house using an XP laptop on my wireless and he stayed connected to TQ while i kept dropping, so it seems unrelated to the wireless or the broadband. Ive tried a clean install and pretty much every 'fix' listed on this thread and had no luck. Ive also done the pingplotter report and the eve error workspace thing and submitted with my bug report.

Well well, the winsock refresh thingy worked for about a week. Sad to say the issue is back in full force though.
I've been reduced to ice mining, and even then it's not a guarantee if I can finish an entire cycle.
On the bright side, I've caught every DC with LogServer, so hopefully it helps. I'm still naively optimistic

Since my last post ive had 3 days of trouble free eve (only dropping twice the whole weekend), right up to this morning. Since downtime today I've gone back to dropping out within 5 minuits. Any other Demon broadband users experience this?
