Here is something to try, go to the following site: Speedguide And on the top of the page click on Broadband Then go to Broadband Tools select SG TCP/IP Analyzer A page will appear showing your connection settings and other stuff, after you look it over, repeat the above but go to the following. TCP Optimizer and download the program and run it.
It will allow you to set your connection to its optimal settings.
Hope this helps some of you out.

Edited by: Karim alRashid on 16/01/2009 15:10:56 Here's some very similar problem and a possible solution http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=603130&p=3#r44
I'll try lowering the MSS as soon as I get back home from work.
There's a router (gi8-4.border65-01.fra1.de.telecity.net), which tends to drop 1460 byte packets, but less so with 1400 byte packets and practically none with 100 byte packets.

Hi,
Thank you for contacting customer support. I've checked your logs and you did have a disconnection at 2009.01.16 10:03. Unfortunately I'm afraid that I could not verify any server issues were responsible for the disconnection problems you experienced. No server bug or error was implied in your ship destruction. Because of this we are unable to reimburse your ship. Thank you for your patience and wish you a speedy recovery.
Best Regards, GM Vitas

Yeah, I was in a fleet taking out a POS, got the socket crash 5 times in 10 min, the client just stops responding and then exits out with a socket message.
Its almost as if the server thinks the player or client is not playing and then closes the socket :S
Please look try to fix this, its very frustrating... |

I have been having the socket closed issue for awhile. So I run a pingplotter report and notice a hop two jumps from CCP (hop 15 out of 18). I give CCP the ip address 212.187.160.146, DNS unknown.Level3.net and get this BS response from them:
Quote: Hello, Sadly in this case there is nothing we can do on our end to resolve this issue no matter what we change on our end. We would recommend that you contact your ISP and show them the ping plotter files. Unfortunately there is nothing else we can do in this case. If there is nothing else may we close this petition for you? Best regards, GM Ocelot The EVE Online Customer Support Team
What the hell is my ISP in the US going to do about an IP between London and CCP? I am not choosing this route and there is no way I am the only CUSTOMER that is going through that hop. CCP needs to get off their lazy butts and do something about this.

Originally by: sho wang This fixed it for me. In my younger days I used torrents and had my router setup to work well in that arena. My sons got me started playin eve again an we would meet here and play together. as we got 3 systems on one connection we started seeing the disconnect problem. All 3 of us.
Long story short. I use dd-wrt router software v23 sp2 (back from when it was free). Your router software may allow these setting or not. You can visit the dd-wrt site and see if your router is supported. This fix also took half the cpu load off the pc. Router cpu load dropped from 100+ % to 1%. Someone else can explain why this is.
Here are the settings for dd-wrt.
Maximum Ports - 1024 (down from 4096) TCP Timeout - 480 (up from 20) UDP Timeout - 320 (up from 10)
Thats it. We have had as many as 7 clients running against this router both wired an wireless. Oh an the router is just a little linksys wrt54g.
This is the exact problem I was having. I would disconnect after only a few minutes of inactivity, putting these settings back to their default has fixed the issue. Thanks for the tip.

Same "socket closed" problem for me too. I also find it annoying that when you get the message you get bounced back to the logon screen, but cannot logon without completely closing the Eve client. This shows that the Eve client has very poor error recovery.

Hi All,
Its really got nothing to do with your local bandwidth. Its the international gateways between countries that are really the root of the problem. Also considering that iceland is a small and remote country their international bandwidth is really questionable.
Also the servers in London, the international circuit that is run by level3 sucks. Perhaps it would do good for CCP to consider hosting their servers in a country with very high bandwidths such as Japan, or even USA.
Just my 2 cents.

Edited by: Zenon Mu on 18/01/2009 21:41:02 Tried the thing with the log server, now preparing a package with a pingplotter result.
Just one thing what the logserver showed:
error(10055, 'No buffer space available', 'IOCompletionWsaGetOverlappedResult failed with error 10055
strangely, one time I got through the authentification process to the char-selection screen, it showed this number on the right side. there were no news items, no text, but on the upper right box, where normally I could choose news etc, there was just a big white 10055. perhaps Eve wanted to tell me something =/ ah yes, then I got socked closed an disconnected...
edit: also, blame telia.net |

I am also still having this issue i call it the 4pm syndrome because at about 4pm and above i get lots of socket closed messages. I have recently run ping plotter during this time and I have massive packet loss from 213.248.70.29 ldn-b4-link.telia.net this also corresponds with the server load being at 40k+ users.
Right now being server load 35k users and the time being 11:55pm I have 0 packet loss (been running it for an hour and a half) from that server and can play eve fine.
Weird thing about this it only happened when Quantum Rise came out. But I canĘt seem to find a link in the new release and this issue possibly just a coincidence?

Been playing since 2007 and had this problem since I started playing. Glad measures are finally being taken by the community to try to get CCP to take responsibility for this widespread problem and fix it. I quit previously because I got tired of losing ships/getting randomly DC'd. I'm back on my 5 day return thing and this problem still exists and in most respects is a lot worse. Don't think I'll be renewing any time soon! |

With all these issues and a variant of ISPs (Unless we all use the same ISP), more than likely CCP should look at their own ISP. However, I am sure they will state that their end is fine.. since they can play on their end.
The only thing I find wrong with their copy/paste reply is that if we know WHEN this is going to happen we could plan around it.

I submitted this petition:
Quote: I am one of the hundreds - judging by the many pages in the forums - of players getting frequently bounced out of space by a "socket closed" error. See: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=921650
1. Is somebody working on this problem? 2. The problem is made much worse because the client has very poor error recovery. Please fix that too.
Thank you!
Got this reply:
Quote: Hi there, This issue is being worked on within CCP with a high priority. There are several factors that can contribute to this happening however, so there may be a few things that you can do on your end to prevent it.
The first thing I would like to you try is to restart your router and see if you still experience this problem after that. To make sure that your router is completely restarted and refreshed it would be best if you could unplug it from the power source and make sure to wait a few seconds before you plugging it in and turning it on again.
If you continue to experience the problem after that then we would like you to run a program to test your connection with the EVE Server. In order to thoroughly test your connection to the EVE server, please download a program called pingplotter which is available here http://www.pingplotter.com/downloads/pngplt_2.exe If you are running a hardware firewall (SPI Firewall) on your router you will need to disable it, as otherwise this program won't work.
After starting up pingplotter do the following in the program: 1) Under "Address to trace" put the following value in the box: 87.237.38.200 2) In the bottom left corner in the box "# of times to trace" put the value 1500 3) In the bottom left corner in the box "Trace Intervals" change it to 2.5 seconds 4) In the bottom left corner in the box "Samples to include" change it to 1500. 5) Click on "Trace" button in the bottom left corner.
When it's completed save it as the sample set ( pp2 ) and send to us. Best regards, The EVE Online Customer Support Team

I am constantly getting this now - it happens at wierd times. Some times for days I will have no problem - then WHAM - socket, socket, socket, socket
If CCP does not get this worked out - they will feel it when people stop playing.

Sockets being closed anything from 20 mins to 2 hours apart.

Anyone else getting a serious amount of disconnects tonight? I can warp once before I get kicked off and the client throws three notices at me.
"Connection to server lost." "The transport has not yet been connected, or authentication was not successful." "Socket Closed."
It's really bad tonight
