Just wanted to put my 2 cents in here.
Lately I have been experienced disconnect issues (socket closed, server disconnected) and ran ping plotter. Same as others here it seems the breakdown is:
telecity.ge9-9.br02.ldn01.pccwbtn.net [63.218.13.222]
I get 50% packet loss to it as do others who are having connectivity problems.
Also quick note to those that have problems logging back in with the character what was disconnected, but not other characters. If you clear the cache it will let you log back in.

Happening for me too. This is a joke 3 months this has been going on and not a peep from ccp.
Pingplotter running in the background worked for a while, but it's not helping now and i can't even log in. Tried chnging the port/clearing cache etc. none of which helped. And is ridiculous in its own right that we even need to try these things to get a product that we have bought to work.
The lack of comment from ccp is enraging due to this being such a large problem.
I have never had a problem this occur in any other game, and if it has it was corrected quickly, not by turning the other way hoping it will magically disappear.

I've had this problem ever since the QR patch. I think I was finally able to fix the problem two days... TWO DAYS before this patch, and now it's back to square one.... ****!!
The truth is that CCP doesn't give a **** about us. It would cost them too much effort to fix a problem that a small minority of players are having. As long as they're getting their monthly subscriptions from the majority, they can go on and ignore us all they like. They're too scared to come on here and tell us that there are no plans to fix it.
About my previous fix, which was short-lived: I had gone into my router settings and set it to make sure that port 26000 was always open. After that change, I didn't have a single disconnect in two days (even at previous heavy D/C times).
Now, I don't know what to do. Maybe it needs another port fixed.
I'm starting up a fund to support a naval blockade of Iceland until they fix this issue, so donate your ISK to me, lol.

Chiming in here to say I'm having the same problem.
I finally sent an in game petition - not that they'll necessarily respond, but still. I included a link to this thread in the petition.
What pushed me "over the edge" was losing *another* round of Hammerhead II's on a lvl 3 mission. At $650k per drone it's just taking everything I'm making on the mission to break even.

Some days I experience the same problem. And my own investigations have led me to the same conclusion.
The problem lies with the route. Whenever these two are in the route
telecity.ge9-9.br02.ldn01.pccwbtn.net [63.218.13.222] mailtx.2zxr.com [217.20.44.10]
The problems are there and there are massive connection problems to be seen in pingplotter.
On other days, when the route is different (i.e the mailtx.2zxr.com server is not in the route, everything works perfectly well and there are no issues.
It occurs strange to me aswell that there is a mailserver (or so the name suggests) inbetween the route at telecity to CCP's server...Strikes me as this is an internal routing problem that needs to be looked at.

They won't. It's not a "bug", so all you can do is hope that the ISP provider for those hops notices something.
Quote:

25%-65% packet loss at telecity's hop, and 100% packet loss at hop 10, which is so screwed up PingPlotter can't even get info on it. Maybe someone can call Hong Kong, where telecity's registered. HERRO?
Thanks for looking out for your paying customers, CCP.

I think since CCP can't/won't address this issue (after all, look at their participation in this thread), our only hope is that when Apocrypha is released, it takes such a major wet steaming dump because of this, they'll have no recourse but to address it.
Personally, I like the odds. After all, these are the same magicians that overwrote peoples' boot.ini files with Empyrean Age, remember?

Well I'd say it is a bug, though not in the game client. No they didn't write game code that caused this, but there is a "bug" so to speak that is easily tracked down by any number of people here and there's some fishy routing going on.
Tracing route to 87.237.38.200 over a maximum of 30 hops (removed more local pings...) 7 41 ms 40 ms 41 ms pos-1-8-0-0-cr01.losangeles.ca.ibone.comcast.net [68.86.86.13] 8 52 ms 40 ms 42 ms TenGE13-2.br02.lax04.pccwbtn.net [63.218.51.17] 9 164 ms 167 ms * telecity.ge9-9.br02.ldn01.pccwbtn.net [63.218.13.222] 10 165 ms 164 ms 165 ms mailtx.2zxr.com [217.20.44.10] 11 * * * Request timed out. 12 167 ms 166 ms 164 ms 87.237.38.200
Anyone tried going through a proxy service to see if they can use a different route to CCP's servers?

How would one go about such a thing? Im a noob when it comes to such things, but what my IP provider led me to believe is that there was an issue along the route conecting to CCPs servers. If we can show that with a diferent route things work...

i don't think 10 165 ms 164 ms 165 ms mailtx.2zxr.com [217.20.44.10] and others hop after are the issue cause. That hop are sure firewalled so we lost all the packets but is normal.
The real problem is 9 164 ms 167 ms * telecity.ge9-9.br02.ldn01.pccwbtn.net [63.218.13.222]
that lost (real loss) packet (30% min 100% max) and this is a Telecity issue in the isp farm Telecity Map This happen when a router has very high load of traffic and randomly lost packets. This isn't a CCP issue, is a CCP's ISP issue. CCP have some ISP and if the route go trough Telecity there are packet loss.
This is my opinion...i'm waiting for a CCP note.

I can't believe we have 17 pages of people complaining about the same problem and we haven't had any type of response from anyone at CCP...
When paying customers game time is being compremised I'd like to think that CCP would at least respond with some formal BS saying they are at least looking into the problem Recruitment

OK, so who do we get to write the nastygram to Telecity? Somebody link them to this thread, or bombard them with out PingPlotter results.
Typical English. Probably have the server on the wrong side of the road.

Well I have been having this same lovely problem for the last month and after loosing a ship and many a drone I am pretty fed up. I will tell you though I have researched and tried every fix and finally thanks to others posts I have not had my super fantastic socket closed in about 5 days. Ping Plotter seems to be working. I have had one disconnect since I started running it and that was on my isp's end. Just set it up like it says above and let it run through your game play.

The problem is that I can't play the game right now. For the last 3 days I have repeatedly recieved the "The Socket was closed" error message. It really picked up this weekend. Now, after trying to run a level 4, I can't even log in! In the last 2 hours after reading posts about the error, I tried to log in multiple times. I was able to get in 1 time and then when I undocked, I got the error again. How can I run ping plotter or a log when I can't even play the game?

Well tonight I played for a couple hours without a single hiccup doing the same sort of things I normally do (lvl 3 missions these days.) I checked and yes I'm still having the same tracert results that show telecity and mailtx.2zxr.com as problem points in the route. I don't get it. Of course, after I was done I left myself sitting in station for a just few minutes to get something to eat and drink, but came back to find I was stuck and got the disconnect. I know people have reported that keeping the connection constantly active helps a lot so maybe this latest problem was a result of inactivity. Even so, it's still a problem in that it wasn't the intended function of the client to kick me, but rather a loss of connectivity.
Sure I'm glad I had no problems while playing, but I know it will happen again sooner or later and there's not much I feel I can do to prepare for it.

Never had this problem before.
But now, this last days i aren't able to play all i want because it keeps DCing me after 5minutes or so, when fitting my ships i will also have to relog to see everything fitted up and online.
When i DCed i had another client going and it wasn't affected, that one was still online.
