Thank you Sir. All working fine now.
I ran:
sudo apt-get remove wine wget http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/ubuntu/feisty/wine_0.9.36~winehq0~ubuntu~7.04-1_i386.deb sudo dpkg -i wine_0.9.36~winehq0~ubuntu~7.04-1_i386.deb
(Note I originally had problems with the Machonet.bash file but i just opended it and ran the mkdr commands manually - just incase anyone else has a problem)

0.9.36 works ok with my ATI X300 and the ATI drivers. Haven't tested space yet (at work and can't afford a crash), but inside a station is about 35 FPS. Only annoyance is it doesn't act windowed like it does under Cedega, but I'm sure that's a configuration setting somewhere. |

Experiencing this as well. Initially I thought all the UI stuff drawn using "lines" weren't working (because the sliders on the settings window or some part of the fitting interface do not work as well) but it appears to be more subtle than that, because all columns separators as well as the tactical overlay are drawn correctly.
It's the only real issue for me: not being able to use the map correctly can be quite a problem to find agents, the optimal route between 2 places, etc.

Edited by: Pyrius Omega on 20/05/2007 19:59:49 ok,
Got the following:
Ubuntu 6.06 installed wine 0.9.36 installed Lastest Eve install
got the following error and need help on figuring how to fix... user@user: ~$ nice -19 wine ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/EVE.exe fixme:process:IsWow64Process (0xffffffff 0x33fc34) stub! fixme:actctx:FindActCtxSectionString@ 00000000 (null) 2 L"msvcr80.dll" 0x347b6c
I did the RedistD3DOnly.exe and hit enter but it returned a prompt, so I guessed it worked to a point....
Any help is appreciated
edited: Just read another post that was interest....Could this be a MS fonts issue, because the EVE startup background comes up but there's no login screen and then it crashes.

I have followed the guide on page 35. The Client starts, I can enter my login-data, then the character-selection screens appears as normal, except that it does not show my characters, all three pictures are empty, and I cant select a character. Anyone knows a solution, or has a hint?
thx, Dachhel

If you're using wine with the install guide on 35, you need to understand that wine .9.36 does not need a lot of the stuff included there. Install wine (.9.36 as .37 is garbaged for eve), then use it to install eve.
Ensure that the video drivers (opengl 3d stuff) are setup.
Make sure to get the arial.ttf files into the proper directory, and you should be good to go.

Edited by: Pyrius Omega on 21/05/2007 11:13:01 Hi Servarus,
I have .36 setup with with Eve. It runs really slow. However; after reading your last post, I don't think that I have the open gl drivers. Could you point me to them? I did copy the arial.ttf from the regular windows to the windows' folder within drive_c.
The game does load but paint drying is much faster. Could not having the opengl drivers be the cause of this? Btw, I did start using Ubuntu 6.06. Would it be better to upgrade to 6.10 or 7.04 for better performance?
Also, I followed the install guide by Brindig on page 35. But did not load the nvidia glx drivers. I'll load the latest drivers tonight. Would the line be "sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx" ?

You first need to indicate which video card. ati/nvidia? For both of these, you need the binary drivers. The drivers that come with the distribution are open source and are crap for 3d gaming.
I would HIGHLY recommend 7.04 as its much more up to date, and better performing.

Servarus,
I have an Nvidia card. However; I did use the sudo apt-get for the glx drivers on the 6.06 system and rebooted. Started the game up and it gave a bunch of 'glx' errors and stating that it could not initialize opengl blah, blah, blah. I'll upgrade to 7.04 this evening.

I've got the newest nvidia drivers on my system. Everything (sound included) works fine until I reach the character-selection screen. It looks normal, but no characters are shown. It is also strange that the client doesn't store resolution and sound setting (i have to change these settings everytime I start the client).
Are there other things I could check?? thx, Dachhel

better would be: cd ~/.wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/CCP/EVE/ nice -19 wine EVE.exe most apps need a correct work dir
try running the logserver (new workspace) before running eve might help to get more details
make sure you have the arial file in windows\fonts and that the 3d thing left d3dx9_30.dll in windows/system or system32
in prefs.ini you can try voiceenabled=0 and audio=0

did you install eve as user (not root) or did you copy it from an other drive? (checking permissions might help)

I'm up to the point of being able to log in (fixed the black logon screen by just copying over ALL my microsoft fonts from my Windows partition.) and I get the the character selection screen and CAN see my avatar's portrait and select it. Eve begins to log me in, starts loading the station, and BAM! freezes solid.
That's it, I get no further than a partially filled "Loading Station" bar, and I have to kill EVE to get back to the desktop.
I have an Nvidia card with the restricted drivers enabled, running 7.04 with Wine 0.9.33.
Just a note, the 3D functions do work, I can use Google Earth, Compiz and Beryl with no trouble.
Any suggestions?

Something weird is going on. I submitted my test data to Wine Application DB, and received the following mail:
Quote: Submitted testing data accepted ------------------------------------------------------- The testing data you submitted for 'EVE Online 3.14.x' has been accepted by Elfe.http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=7342&iTestingId=12092 Administrators Responce:
We appreciate your help in making the Application Database better for all users.
But then a few hours later:
Quote: Submitted testing data deleted ------------------------------------------------------- The testing data you submitted for 'EVE Online 3.14.x' has been deleted by Molle Bestefich.Reason given:
We appreciate your help in making the Application Database better for all users.
And now, it seems that eve is permanently gone from http://appdb.winehq.org/. It used to be in the frontpage, it's not here anymore, and all the links I have (from this thread, my mail) show up as "Internal Database Access Error. No App found.". I seriously hope it wasn't fully deleted as there was valuable info in there...

adding the voice enabled option to my Prefs.ini got me in!
Now I just have to get the sound working, and I'm gtg!

Okay, I installed XP to compare the speeds... I roughly get about half the FPS in Ubuntu than I do in XP. Frankly, with 90 fps vs 45 fps the difference is just in the numbers, I can play just as well but I'm interested in other people's results.

Hi,
I try to run EvE in Suse 10.2 with Wine 0.9.36 and latest Nvidia drivers installed. I added the voiceenabled line in prefs.ini, set up Winecfg like page 35 said, copied arial.ttf, did the direct3D thing...
I can log in and select a character and the station loads up, but all this happens with close to 0 fps (5 fps at char selection screen, 2 fps in station).
EvE runs over 130 fps in Win XP with my Nvidia geforce 7950.
Beryl is active though... But that shouldn't be a problem because I've seen youtube movies of someone spinning the cube while playing eve...
Any suggestions?

Those of you having FPS problems, you might want to try the cedega CVS. It's free, it's a little more complicated to install (cedega forbids people to make package out of their CVS, to incite people to pay a subscription, but you can access the CVS and build cedega for yourself without problems, it's just not newbie friendly) and it solves some issues (map dots/lines problems, fitting interface drawing corruption, mouse cursor).
The odd thing is, no matter what settings I use, cedega is always *very* slow when using "Window Mode", and I can't use fullscreen since I'm using Twinview (Eve would be stretched on the 2 monitors, with my ship and interface split in two).

Edited by: Dabljuh on 24/05/2007 22:28:37 I'm getting fairly horrible FPS in my opinion. If *nothing* is visible on the screen its almost smooth. CPU is an athlon X2, card is a gf6800gt w/ 128mb, nvidia-drivers 9755. The game is very crashy when there is any action going on, wine version is a CVS from around .36. The Starmap is useless, and I am experiencing broken textures as well as minimaps regularly.
Any solutions?

When I look at Cedega CVS, how do I get all those files? Do I need to download them one by one?? That's indeed newbie unfriendly

Maybe I was misinformed there (intentionally?) but isn't Cedega CVS largely year-old outdated code and you'd be better off using regular wine instead?

Cedega CVS I guess this link says it all don't waste your time trying to get the 3 year old stuff working so you have the options of wine (free), cedega (subscription) or crossover (one time payment)
