Siresa Talesi wrote:This has gone on too long already; CCP's neglect and indifference to the early reports is no excuse for this delay. CCP needs to understand the term "stopgap measure," and implement something until they can put in the fix that they want.
Everything CCP has said indicates that they are simply unwilling to fix this sooner because they don't want to remove their new art asset, and want to take their time to try to "optimize" it in some unsubstantiated hope that they can do so in a way that will remove all ill effects whle still preserving the animation. By insisting on this unneeded delay, they are putting the importance of their pretty animation above the physical well being of their customers, and frankly, that is more sickening than the jump sequence will ever be.
A lesson here of what happens when they look at internal data so much they forget to even check their horizon...

History is littered by so many who feel they're so right and infallible. Their cause so just and so overconfident it could never happen.
(The above is the reason why I'll never support industry policing itself -- Tunnel vision).
The problem here is what those FLT 401 pilots were doing, so lost in trying to fix a light. Here, CCP can see the data, the data is showing them yeah there's an issue, yet the use of those gates show it doesn't justify a quick fix as they're still being used by acceptable numbers. They put more trust into their stats than even the health of their players.
That's tunnel vision in a nutshell.
To fix it, human brains need a horizon. The swing and pull disorientates as there's no horizon to keep balance.
CCP can see it in action in WoW on the Shado-Pan daily with the dragon flight (they have the same pull animation that mimics the gate animation here), and see how important the horizon; elevation and looking forward plays in not making players sick (and that daily is much more complex, dragons are moving in a clockwise formation, in a slow circle, and at different levels where players can pick to jump). See back in WotLK players simply got tired of all the vehicle fights to the point Blizzard had to bribe players to enter (where the whole goodie bag bribe system began). They're careful in not rocking the boat with vehicles now, and you can see the results (it gets through QA it's fixed in days, not waiting on 50k poster threads with angry players).
It takes a swift kick in the pants to break that tunnel vision. Even Blizzard gets the message after awhile. "In a world of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." ~George Orwell

I would also like to reference to this thread because many players including myself encounter physical problems since CCP introduced the new jump effect. This includes headache, dizziness and nausea especially on long travels.

Just came back to check this thread and see if anything was going to be done about this. When I jump now i minimize EVE and look at my desktop. I have a picture of a star formation from the Hubble telescope set there to look at during warps. Thanks for listening:) Have a great day:) Change is the only constant. I will even adapt to blatant absurdity. You know who you are. |

There's no problem guys. Let's not lose perspective. The devs are working on improving the animation. It's summer. Life is beautiful and I'm going to spend the day outside on my balcony reading a book with a beer in my hand. Maybe I'll go check out the local park while I'm at it. Nothing to stress about. EVE will be fixed shortly.
Also, if we're dicks about this, I'm guessing it will take twice as long to fix and the result won't be half as good. The best thing we can do is to say 'thanks for recognizing the problem' and chill.
Peace. |

I do not know. So far as I understand it is the CSM responsible for delivering the voice of the player to CCP, no matter what their personal preferences are. Personally, I think most of the players, devs and so on love the new animation. But this means not that the few players which have problems should not name them. The critics are always outnumbered. Which means not that they are not right. Eventually, it is not about thinks we can live with. It is about a direct influence on the health of people.
And this is not a new problem with games and movies which focus more and more on effects. This massive effects beating up on our senses you will not find in nature. So our bodies have difficulties with it. And I expect more of these things in the future of EVE Online because it is some kind of "Hollywood-Trend" currently, if you watch the newer movies. So I wanted to bring this issue to attention before CCP includes more of this stuff into the game only because they think it looks "cool".
It is up to CCP whether they want to ignore us because we are only a few or whether they take action. |

Please make an alternative or tweak the thing. The slow stobe flashes in the animation are just bad and it causes client crashes....I have a decent gaming rig it's not me unless the benchmark we're using is the original CQ load. |

While I personally have no issue with the jump animation in terms of motion sickness etc, I would gladly turn it off.
It Frequently goes wonky and doesnt display properly ( I appreciate that this may be something to do with my machine rather than a fault with the animation ) but If its going to go nuts on me I'd gladly go back to Loading Bars. Quite simply, a DEV doesnt like them ? Fine, replace them with something that doesnt create a response like the one being voiced in this and other threads.
When you get a response like this one, with this much support behind it, pay attention, make an interim solution quickly, then fix the larger issue as soon as you are able to. Ignore it, drag your feet on it, marginalise it, or otherwise hope that it will go away and ALL you will achieve is to alienate paying customers.
You can't please everyone, but you can certainly do your best not to **** People Off.
Yes, it's your intellectual property and you can handle it how ever you please, but what you're doing now is bad business.
On a side note, SOME of the CSM are useful and do a decent job in their position, some others use the role as Free Pass to Troll and aggravate people. CCP should be looking into that..... Voted For or not, if an elected representative abuses his position, his peers, superiors or his constituents should be able and willing to censure him or have him removed.

A slider that adjusts the speed of the animation, and possibly a checkbox (always vote checkbox) to tone down the lighting in the warp tunnel would work nicely.
And to the people who seem to think that the new animation makes you more vulnerable when jumping, it doesn't. You start loading the grid before the animation ends. Poetic noticed this fact in his blog , and actively uses it as a tool to work out if he's jumping into an occupied grid. My corp has tested the new wormhole animations too, and those on grid do not see the exit animation until the person jumping has loaded grid, I'm pretty sure the same applies to gates. Perhaps CCP is worried that if they give the option to turn off the jump gate animation and the scanning animation, then players will complain there was not much "meat" on this ~expansion~...
Ship changes have been ongoing. Data and relic site games and its slot machine returns reward those players with faster fingers (in my opinion). Hmmm, without looking at the patch notes, what else was offered? *thinks*
Oh, skills being slotted into racial designs and tech 3 ships not allowed in the third and fourth deadly dungeons - alterations. |
