Gave the latest kali build a go with Cedega, I get the splash screen and then the message that I need Windows 2000 SP2 or higher. Tried the winxp and win2k settings in Cedega but that doesn't help a bit.

I like SDL. I use SDL for the game I'm working on but it's a one man project that will be 10 years out of date by the time I complete it. :)

I wrote a How-To, how i got this working on my Ubuntu Box. Herzlichen Dank Elfe
You can find it HERE.
I tried it with the wine sources from "git" but failed. Always got errors as i tried starting the game.
Only thing on my installation that is really broken are the "F11" maps.

General FYI: Today's patch installed fine under cedega 5.2.7. Post patch logged in with no issues and saw no apparent problems.

I've only had to create 2 petitions in the recent past (both being for isk sellers in local channels), and no, no issues at all here with that. Worked fine and were resolved/responded to by GM's in very short amount of time.

Hey
Thought I'd give running eve a bash under linux with cedega tonight...
When I start it up, it cycles between the graphics, ie, the red image with EVE ONLINE - Red Moon Rising and goes through a couple of cycles before it shows the login boxes then starts the whole cycle again resulting in me not being able to log in...
Anyone have any ideas?

Edited by: Yaevep on 21/11/2006 00:00:37 Just tried the sisi patch (27483) with wine .9.25 + Elfe's patch. And I'll be ****ed, it works ;) Havent tested much, just tried to do some belt ratting and apart from some graphics glitches it works nicely. Performance is about the same I get with Cedega on TQ, so no change there. (Crappy box, we're talking single diget fps here in a belt ;))

First is cedega passing all tests? If you are using the open source video drivers, you're gonna have problems. 2nd. which video card? If ATI, there are others here that can help with that.
If nvidia card, then make sure you are running the nvidia drivers as opposed to the open source.

Edited by: El***ER on 23/11/2006 22:15:27 I was in the SISI pos playtest today with my 1.7 ghz laptop and a gf6600go card
I had around 5-10 fps most of the time at the POS. (fully zoomed out and no turrets or effects active)
the client was stable there where some small memory usage increases over time but it's hard to tell if that came from Eve or Wine screenshots are available on the wine appdb

Elf, have you had a chance to look at or test the vivox side of the new client? The audio still has me worried a bit. (played around with SISI a couple weeks ago, but not the voice stuff.)

And the answer to that one is.......late december. probably a good thing as the feedback on the vivox client was in general.....bad.
Of course now we Cedega users are behind the wine users as cedega ain't working. sigh. Gonna break out the 'elf-instructions' if transgaming doesn't have a cedega patch in their news section.
At least CCP is acknowledging we linux users. That, is something anyway. (2nd line of known issues: "Cedega is not supported at release. We are still working with them to solve the last of the issues".
Perhaps not with codeweavers yet, but cedega is better than no support.

I only tested patching up a TQ client and login an alt in an empire station.
the installer for the directx dll file is in the EVE/bin subdirectoy in case anyone needs it
edit: according to the crossover forum the Revelations client is running on MacOS (x86) as well

Elfiger, .9.26 is out. Will your patch work with that? Or is .9.24 specifically required to run EVE? Want to make sure before I run through Dencal's step by step to install and test.

Tried .925 with Elfe's latest diff last night.
Some issues:
- d3dx warning/error at startup - station: when rotating the ship, the light that falls on the icons in ship/item view causes the icons to go completely white with a certain rotation - station: icons get drawn on the bottomleft of the screen briefly before being drawn on the correct spot (in items/ships view on the right) - poor FPS (about half of what cedega produced with RMR)
I am very pleased that Elfe got Revelations to work with wine tho, where Cedega until today fails to produce a decent patch. Makes me want to ditch Cedega completely... The low FPS with wine is a showstopper for me tho. Elfe, do you have any idea what could possibly cause this FPS drop ?

install the directx dll with the RedistD3DXOnly.exe the icon display is caused by using the backbuffer for offscreen rendering (run "wine regedit" and create string value "OffscreenRenderingMode" with value "fbo" in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D/ don't know if that change came in before 0.9.26) poor fps is a known issue and will hopefully see some improvements in the near future (and I can finaly switch to linux)

Running RedistD3DXOnly.exe does not do anything noticeable. Getting d3dx9_30.dll is the way I've made it past this.
Thank you for the fbo reg key (it doesn't exist under .25) - it fixed the overview for me (gcc4.1 - though not the right click menus line issue) and improved fps by 2...There were still some things done on screen but not as many. No portraits though.
I have improved fps using gcc 3.4 and so does a friend. No idea why...
Can you please look over the instructions I put together at eps.homelinux.org/eve and see if I've missed anything/update it to work with .26/git. A couple of people have told me its worked for them and others are still having issues with the copying visual c libs step. As far as I've concerned its good enough to get in and change skills which is most important until Cedega is back and working (not that I have any issue dropping Cedega altogether once the fps is sorted out).
Also for interest what is your setup - hardware wise and what version of wine are you running to get it to work.

Hadn't seen that you'd put that in there Elf. (my .9.26 install has been pretty stable, save for mem leaking, so will give this a shot.)
Will post later.

Its running. Frame rate is now officially 'crap' compared to dragon and before. It is slightly better than straight wine, but not by much. Hopefully tomorrow's CCP patch will clear this up.

The last automatic patch worked fine with wine 0.9.26. EVE always working (at low FPS :()
Someone get it work under Cedega, or I can stop paying for this thing?
PS : Sometime I don't have the window border: http://img516.imageshack.us/my.php?image=eve2ae5.jpg So the only thing I need to do is restart EVE
wine 0.9.26 Compiled with gcc 3.4.6

I had Wine 0.9.26 + eve-2006-11-25.diff working but now I am getting a black login window after recompiling with the eve-2006-12-06.diff patch. And the 11-25 patch lists "window as managed" and the option in winecfg is checked but there is no border on the window.

the diffs are for the wine source from the same day
I made a diff for 0.9.27
btw. the black screen fix is now included in wine source so it can't be in the diff anymore or there would be conflicts

Sometimes ExeFile.exe window does not come to the front, and then the Eve.exe window doesn't close leaving a black screen. I shrink the Eve.exe window and it goes away revealing the login screen.

okay, I've read the latest pages of this thread, and it looks like people are getting some successes. I just switched to linux because my Windows OS crashed and everyone I know tells me linux is better. I don't know anything about it, just took the plunge. What I would like to know is if anyone would please spell out for me what to do to try to get this game running. I am now running SUSE 10.1, I've downloaded wine and some free versions of cedega. If I were knowledgeable and read this post I'd be rolling my eyes at the newb. but I would really like to make this work. thank you in advance, Alexx

From the latest Transgaming Update:
<snip> The developers at CCP also jumped in to lend a hand when a break was introduced in EVE Online by the recent Revelations update. Thanks to the folks from CCP for working with us to identify the problem, thus allowing TransGamers to once again be able to play one of the world's coolest Sci-Fi multi-player games under Linux. The requisite fix for this issue is now available in Cedega 5.2.8. We are working hard with CCP to ensure that future updates on the EVE test servers get a workout with Cedega, to avoid this problem in the future.
<snip>
Glad to hear this from TG.
