I mean what are mods going to do, tell you to post your services and adverts in the trade forums....oh wait.
Interesting, it seems the want ads forum is still open http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=579870 I wonder what would happen if I tried to sell something in the general discussion forum...
It would get moderated and locked. Please don't make the situation worse. -Rauth Kivaro([email protected])
I see, fair enough but I was told that the forums are still open. This is actually incorrect new posts cant be made.
Correct, that was a mistake on my part, which i apologyze for.

I remember someone coming in Jita local a while ago asking questions about the sell forums and that he was working on overhauling that section. I specifically mentioned that I personally use that forum a lot and enjoy being able to read it when I don't have access to Eve. It is also easier to use than the contract system and adds another dimension to the game.
Most people in local agreed .
Removing those forums is not a good idea in fact it's a flat out bad idea imo.
One other thing that I do not understand is why CCP continually removes things that the majority of people (or ones that use a particular feature) love and they do so without any kind of say on the part of the people and also fail to reply to the questions raised on specific points raised in threads that debate their changes?
You, CCP make this game less enjoyable when you do thing's like this continually. -----------------

I had a quick thought, about super carriers, T2 BPOs and the like - Most people prefere to use a third party, so there is no scamming - how would this work under contracts CCP? Give the third party 30 billion isk to buy a mothership for you? er...No thanks. How can you guys SERIOUSLY think this is good for the game?

Quote: eve alcohol paraphernalia now available in the store! reported by CCP Wrangler | 2007.08.14 10:43:28 The most surprising thing might be, why didn't we do this sooner? We have finally added everything you need to show that you're an EVE fan while you're drinking with your friends. The store additions consist of an Eve Beer glass, Eve Beer mug and Eve Shot glass.
For our younger players, you may of course use these glasses to drink soft drinks or similar, alcohol is not required.
Quote: closing trading and ccg forums reported by CCP Wrangler | 2007.08.21 12:24:43 | NEW With the contract system and market in game we have decided to close down the trading forums. They were created as a solution to a problem which is now resolved with the contracts system and it is now time to take all trading back in game. These forums have been locked for new threads but you will be able to finish the current trades. The market forums (Sell Orders, Want Ads and Trades, trades and more trades) will be completely removed on Monday two weeks from now, 2007.09.03, giving everyone enough time to finish existing trades. We have also added the Character and Timecode Bazaar forum, which is for selling characters and timecodes only.
Since we now have the CCG website with forums we will be closing down the CCG forums, they will however remain in as read only forums as a form of archive. Instead you will be able to use the CCG website forums to discuss the CCG.
There may be some issues with replying to existing threads in the trade forums, this is caused by caching and should be cleared up in a while.
Please discuss these forum changes here.

The point here is they either don't care Nyphur or they didn't think about that either of which worry me a lot, especially the latter. -----------------

Bottom line is they made this decision KNOWING what an uproar it would cause. That's why they didn't give it so much as a dev blog or a real discussion with the community on alternatives. That said, they will be THRILLED if Chribba's forum takes over and becomes the preferred trade channel. It removes from CCP any responsibility to police transactions, maintain the forum, and (GASP) fix the contracts system.
What else could they do but get behind Chribba, who already has name recognition and a proven track record of service to the community.
In short: bravo Chribba, boo CCP.

Edited by: Dave PSI on 21/08/2007 19:10:08 The contract auction system is a pain, i tried a few time to bid on items, but still there isnt a sniper and ending time isnt shown correctly i always missed it (i.e. the jump from less than a day to less than 1 hour is a joke).
I didn't care because its most of the time not that expensive stuff. The real interesting items where all sold over the forum, because everybody knows the contract system sucks. I could understand that you want to reduce traffic/sink costs, but all what will happens, everybody and his mother will need an alt in Jita to bid on the auctions there. Everybody online, cause you have to wait for the less than a day to less than an hour jump to start bidding. You will only move the traffic from the forum to jita, welcome to 1000+ in jita
Why the hell are you changing things nobody asked for and nobody wants instead of fixing bugs, which your customers would like much more???
Its thesame with the Mineral compression (i.e. stb, passive targeter etc.), are you bored so much??? Nobody want a change and nobody needs it.
Fix the POS warfare/soveranity, fix some office rerenting bugs, work on the desync problem, test some feature against blob warfare and if you are bored an stupid ideas like closing the market place are raising again --> fire teh ones which comes up with them.

This is move is R E T A R D E D. Why doesn't CCP work on fixing the forums first? I have to use this website to actually search anything on the forums: http://www.eve-search.com/
CCP has to realize that taking stuff AWAY from players is never a good idea. If it wasn't implemented properly to begin with, don't mess with taking stuff away to try and fix it.
Take a dang poll before you guys do something stupid like this. ----------------------------------

After all, it's not like THERE WAS A PERFECTLY GOOD AND POPULAR FORUM HERE AFTER ALL.
Why should it be the players responsibility to pay for hosting/bandwidth/etc. for something that YOU CAN, AND UNTIL THIS UTTERLY MORONIC DECISION DID, DO?
This idea was about as good an idea as hiring Roseanne Barr to model string bikinis. Visualize that..that picture in your head is almost as bad as this idea.
I've only ever browsed the sell/buy forums..but can't see why anybody with an IQ higher than...well, anybody with an IQ period thought this was a good idea. No such thing as bad press! |

I haven't played eve that long, but I have played other mmos, and there comes a time when the company that owns the game seems to think players are progressing too quickly or the wealthy are too wealthy or for whatever reason, currency has to be taken out of the game. It seems to me that maybe this is what's going on with this forum closing business--it's a gold sink.
If I understand the process correctly, a lot previously free trades will now be heavily taxed, which evidently is going to hurt the wealthiest players more, since they are selling the most expensive things, but it appears also to be hurting the smaller high volume people who are selling many small things, and being taxed on each one.
I know there are skills to reduce (or eliminate?) the taxes you pay, and I think faction comes in to it at some point (I'm still not clear on how faction or standing works in this game, other than in reprocessing), but that introduces another gambit of the older mmo: the time sink. I assume the time it takes to train the skill to reduce tax is significant.
I also have to agree with everyone who is worried about the effect this will have on the game servers. My most recent mmo before eve was wow, and I'm a little shocked that a game as old as eve is still having the server problems and daily unplanned outages that it is (I asked a friend who has been playing longer than I if it was always like this, and he assured me that yes, it pretty much is, if not worse). Older games used to be like this (anyone remember the rubber banding in anarchy online?), but almost without exception the newer mmos have much greater performance and uptime than eve seems to. I don't see how increasing database queries can do anything positive for server performance.
In the other games I've played, company representatives usually explained moves like this, but unless I've missed something, there was no explanation given for the need for this change.
Again, I haven't played long, so forgive me if I've missed anything obvious to a veteran player.

Umm.
Sorry to intrude but I promise I won't take a lot of time out of your day. Just need a quick '1' or '0' on the following statement:
Are you, the person who put his or her Stamp of ApprovalÖ on this decision, certified as an idiot?
I know, I know. I usually don't go around asking stuff like this in public; my magic 8ball usually gives me all the answers, but this time the little darling was a little vague with only answer she could come up being: "All signs point to 'yes'."
Thanks in advance.
