I hope you reconsider this decision, the contract system is not versatile enough to cover all forms of trade. Besides, a forum is a community and an important part of the marketplace. Get your fix today |

How am I supposed to "search" for the previous price on "Super duper invul field"? I use the forums to see what the average price has been going back a year or so. Especially when there are none for sale in any region?
Now you have taken away that search tool.

Worst decision ever.
The auction system is still nowhere near to being completed. Right now it's a skeleton waiting to have the rest of its body delivered.
Contract browsing/searching is still abysmal and has the inherent problem of being spammed by [Want to Buy] scam attempts. The naming structure, lack of and decent description only add to these problems.
Not only that, but these forums are what create a sense of community among traders. They let us link back to the days when a Crow BPO was sold for 500m and give us somewhere to look to when we need to know the price of our officer module. Remove them and take away a huge part of our community.
Whoever thought of this should have chairs thrown at them.

Lets see how it turns out, but the Contract system is not exactly popular. I estimate this thread to become about 50 pages before the weekend.
Its a brave move. ---

If you are going to eliminate buy/sell forums and replace them by the contracts system it is crucial that any item is contractible. Last time I checked this was not the case. |

The list goes on.
To be brutally honest, if you had made a contract system that wasn't totally ****, no-one would use the sell orders forums anyway :|

my reaction was a straight out ... WTF ? lol ? 1st April ?
Anyway, you gotta be joking ? Closing the MARKET forums ? In a game where the player driven market is one of the Centerpieces ?
Contracts dont nearly come close to replace all thats done via the market forums.
The forums are needed for advertising mostly, which simply cant be done in game. They give a better overview, and additionally there are some things that cant be sold on market or via contracts.
And i m saying that even though our sales are mostly conducted via TRUST, and not here ... but the Market forums are irreplacable imo. You can replace the guy who came up with the braindead idea of shutting them down though :P

I think that is the key issue here.
The way to get more people into contracts and off the forums is to make contracts better, not try and stop the alternatives.
At the point the forums are hardly being used because everyone has moved to contracts THAT is the point at which the forums can be closed.
Right now my advert spams off the front page within an hour or two of being posted. That's not good but implies to me that contracts and the forums both need work, not that the forums need to be closed down - because they are obviously both popular and get the job done!

Actually, freeform contracts should work for advertising most of the stuff currently done in the sale forum. Will be a bit of a pain to get used to search for stuff though.

How are people going to sell supercaps? How are people going to advertise services? How are people going to run auctions of large number of items? How are people going to express the need for services or items? How are people going to trade at work?
Contracts are to immature to be a replacement for the functionality and more importantly the flexibility the trade forums offers, which is backed up by the fact it is today still the most used forum on this board.
Proceed at your own risk, CCP.
Quote: How are people going to sell supercaps?
sell them with characters only
Quote: How are people going to advertise services?
no more services, please close down all public poses, ipos, transport services, ts/vent/killboard services, adult services, rare item services (for those items you can't search contract)
Quote: How are people going to run auctions of large number of items?
large number of auctions over the contract system
Quote: How are people going to express the need for services or items?
spam all the market channels like the isk sellers do
Quote: How are people going to trade at work?
either quit work, download eve at work, or use a different forum

I'll add my voice to most of the others who are saying this is a bad idea. The 'main' reasons have already been covered.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, but all I can think of is that CCP want to lighten the load on the forums and having to mod them. Ironically, of course, it is the Sell Forum(s) which cause a lot of that load, i.e. they are inherently popular, i.e. people need/enjoy the flexibility that they provide rather than the IG Contract system, which just can't do the same job.
So, coming back to it, maybe it's just a way of moving the forum onto a 3rd party site as others have mentioned.

Features needed in contracts before you can do this:
1) Show the true end time for auctions 2) Allow sniper rules 3) Allow searches of completed contracts 4) Build web interface for searching contracts 5) Allow me to search for just item exchange and auctions, ignoring the WTB scams 6) Allow searches to be saved and easily re-run.
Without that, people are not going to use the in-game tools.
On the plus side, I bet someone could build a *much* better interface for the sell orders than the one big forum full of stuff. So maybe this is a good thing after all....

this wont work unless you:
- add search for finished auctions based on item type - reveal exact auction end times instead of the buggy "less than a hour/day" thingy, add option for real sniper rule instead
Without these two features contracts as the only trading method are really useless

Oh come on CCP, that doesn't make ANY sense at all.
a) The forums are nice to browse: when you cannot play for example.
b) The forums are important for service offers of all sort.
c) The contracts are too limited. The duration is also very short. Furthermore they are not suited for large amounts of items.
d) The forums keep the community alive and happy.
I completely don't understand this step. You have a very nice and also an important feature of your game (in the broader sense). Now you remove that feature. Why? Removing stuff that works and is used a lot is always bad.
Is the load on the servers too large? Well, that should show you only how important these forums are for the community!
Please think about this step again. It is not good for neither you nor for us.
