We have a couple of corp members going through this, as well - One on a Mac, the other on a Dell laptop.
Out of curiosity, has anyone actually tried calling CCP on the telephone ? Email and forums are pretty easy to ignore - Angry customer on the phone not so much so...

I may end up speaking too soon, but I've not had a single disco since I was forced to uninstall and completely re-install for Dominion. Anybody else still getting socket closed errors?

Edited by: Dok No on 24/12/2009 08:32:57 Hi,
its the same on my side...there have been some discos before Dominion - but since then I can't hardly play Eve. Roughly every 5 minutes the clients freezes and then comes the message "Socket is closed". When I am on with two chars (every one on a separate client) sometimes one gets lost and the other can proceed (at least for a while).
If this keeps on I don't see any fun in Eve anymore.

I can't do anything. I keep getting socket closed after logging into space for 3 minutes. It is really frustrating. ___

Edited by: Phugoid on 25/12/2009 16:13:38 One more tidbit. I did notice the problem started when I turned on my XBox360 while I was playing Eve. Apparently EVE and 360 w a wireless router dont get along, ok fine. So I figured that out, but since then EVE is still having issues with disconnects and lost sockets. Im only a little over 2 months old, and didnt have a problem before. If it doesnt get fixed soon Im just gonna fly into low security space and ask to be blown up for good! :(

Sockets getting closed here too, on morning when number of players is under 30k i can log in and play and have no problems. As soon as it starts to grow to 30-35k+ i start to get disconnected and the time to log in changes from 20 sec to about 3-7 mins (from typing in pw to actually seeing my ship). By the time its 35k+ (in weekends that happens very fast) there is no point in even trying as the time to log in is longer than the time till i get disconnected. I can play in mornings but usually corp chat is empty, no fleets going and most fun thing to do is missions. For now i am just changing skills playing other games and hoping that next week i can actually log in eve on playing time, but i doubt ill do that for more than a month. Probably not much use to post here, but its somehow nice to know that you are not alone with such problem.

Pls people, file petitions. Maybe that makes CCP to look into it. I filed mine, but a week without response now...

I've been discussing this in the sticky, but since this thread seems more lively I'll post some more info here.
I've been running Ping Plotter for some time now and it seems the root of the problem for me is a bad line. In ping plotter I get a 10-15 second packet loss on the first hop (ISP) whenever I get disconnected from game.
Now the line has been the same for over a year now and the problem only started appearing after Dominion came out so I suspect they have changed something in the client code that has made the connection more fragile. Maybe a timeout value has been lowered enough to get the dc where it would have waited the problem out before? Dunno really...
It is also worth noting that the "bad" telecity server on route that has been called out so often before seems to pass tcp packets through well enough. It only drops the the ping echo requests, probably due to prioritizing under load.
Anyway, my problem still remains. The game is unplayable and I'm taking advantage of the LOTRO welcome back week to pass the time. =) ______________________

Edited by: Hawkeye Cash on 01/01/2010 06:14:56 Seems to be the place to put forth a vote to make ccp more aware of this issue.
I too an being DC'd with the message 'socket closed' appearing not long after the game stops responding. I agree it is challenging to play when the conditions are like this.
Heres hoping CCP move it on asap.

It might be to soon to cheer, but i did the following to at least until now fix the problem. *knocking on wood*
I went into the router setup and in the WAN Setup
Disabled SPI Firewall
NAT Filtering, Disabled SIP ALG
This is on a Netgear Wrn3500 (N300) wireless router.
Last night i played without the socket loss errors. Thus so far i am happy, although knocking on wood.

Edited by: Korinthius on 05/01/2010 22:01:45 Not sure if this will help everyone, but it has resolved the Socket Closed issue for multiple corp members. Heres what we found and what we did to resolve the issue. For the last 2 weeks we have been getting an increased number of socket closed errors. Originally this would only happen once or twice a day, but quickly escalated to 5-6 times an hour. Not good while running missions as we all know. When the issue became really bad for me and my roommate, we started thinking we had a bad router, and went through the logs. In the logs, we found hundreds of packets lost in just mere moments. The log only held 20 pages of info, and within 10 mins, the whole log had been refilled. While following some other posts we found on the web we began troubleshooting. During the Troubleshooting process, we played with a few settings, such as turning gaming mode off, UPNP Settings we disabled, and Discard PING from WAN side was enabled. While these changed did NOT resolve the issue, we found a new problem. In the logs, alot of the packets lost we now changed to "Smurf Attack Detected". The little blue buggers we messing with my router? j/k. Through more research, we found a resolution to this problem as well. We changed the router so we were not longer on a 192.168.0.X network to a 192.168.1.X network.
Results = 36 hours of no Socket Closed Errors, and packets dropped went from 100 per min average to 6 per HOUR. Result = 2 Happy Eve Players. We recommended this fix to other people in the corp who were having the same problem, and they are rocking Tranquility with the rest of the corp again.
The fix may require as little as the IP change or as much as all 4 items we changed, but TBH, I am not going back and testing that theory under threat from my roommate to smack me with a frying pan if he loses connection again.

Sure, ill happily ping whatever and reset my winsock but no change, problem still occurs, and now all of a sudden a new patch that seems to tackle connection issues? Sure have all your PAYING customers mess in their windows while the issue is on Eve side. Let the peons muddle about with their connection while you KNEW the issue isnt there but in the clusters. Ok this was happening to me. Dominion came out. STill happened. I updated to Win 7. Still happened. Updated drivers. Stopped.
Fine for over a month. Now this past week - eve closes due to loosing the socket. Checked my drivers - no new ones to update. WTF!! I pay for this account - I don't use plex's etc.
This is getting really annoying.
Can CCP PLEASE look into this ?? Athena Olympia Recruiter Band of Builders (BoB) - Building an Empire |

Hi,
Started playing eve around a month and a half ago.
The first few weeks were perfect in terms of connectivity. Then i started getting gradually more socket closed messages, and now its at a point where the game is unplayable for me... especially when the server is at peak times.
I have always assumed that the issue was due to my connection, but after becoming more and more frustrated with Eve i began playing other MMOs and online FPSs. I fully expected there to be lag and connecion issues with them, as i was trying to play them at the times eve was most unplayable (ie, at peak times).
Iv had no issues with any other games, and performing ping and speed tests i have very little packet loss, if any at all.
Now call me silly, but doesnt the minimum specifications for eve state a 56k modem or better Internet connection is required? Yes ok, it isnt recommended but your definately saying its possible... Im on a 50meg plan from virgin, and while i admit it isnt 50meg at the best of times i find it strange how i cant support a game that can APPARENTLY be played without broadband, on a crappy dial up connection...
CCP, dont say its connection issues, as theres tons of proof in here that its not. Tell us the truth and get to sorting it out... coz at the minute all your doing is ****ing alot of people off.
It takes the biscuit that people are actually paying subs for a game where they cant leave a station, or even play the game at peak times.

Ok, so this may not be the same problem, but I tried to reply to the thread that seemed appropriate and found it closed...
So.. here's my issue. Playing eve fine for three months. Last night doing a fleet op and I suddenly get disconnected. It's not a socket closed message but a disconnected one. I get dumped back at the sign in screen. All of a sudden the eve client is now in it's own window and is no longer taking up the whole screen. I log on quickly, more quickly than normal, with no problems. I continue the fleet op, sit still for a few minutes and then promptly get disconnected. This continues to happen until I'm actually moving and warping to places with my fleet and still get disconnected randomly in the middle of it.
The thread I was trying to reply to was about a year or more old. Has anyone had this problem since then?

Edited by: Eliax on 11/03/2010 22:57:36 I've been getting this recurring disconnect problem for 2 weeks now. Never had this problem before.
Connection info: 1 x Router, 1x PC, 1x notebook:
1 desktop pc Q6600 (running 2 clients) windows 7, 64 bit. 1 notebook ferrari 5000 (running 1 client) vista 32 bit.
Divide & conquer attempt: All 3 clients running at the same time.
All clients disconnect at a random time multiple times per day. When the disconnection occures, ALL 3 clients disconnect at the same time. All computers in the private network are connected to the router who is connected to the isp (adsl). Ventrilo & teamspeak never disconnect so it's only eve online on all the computers on my network.
This is no local network connection issue, otherwise ventrilo & teamspeak would disconnect aswell. This is no computer issue, otherwise only 1 computer would disconnect, not all clients in the network at the same time.

I've been playing this game going on about two months now. Suddenly I start getting "Socket Closed" messages and I get booted off. I log back on and all my drones are lost and I'm warping back. It will happen to me like every ten minutes. This needs to get fixed or I'm quitting. I've read alot of testimonies all over the net (not just this board) and this seems to be rampant.
