You couldn't be more wrong! I have 45 years experience with IT for fortune 500 companies. Never in my entire career were my customers subjectet to the constant missed deadlines and vacumn of information about the 'occassional' problems that should be expected.
CCP really sucks at quality control, estimation of time/complexity of installations, and most importantly, the communication that should apply when problems are encountered.
While i agree with the thrust of your statement, i have to question the 45 years in IT bit. That would mean you have been in IT since 1965. As someone that started an electronics engineering degree in 1978, i can assure you that the term 'IT' wasnt around then.

Love this addition to the patch notes. Clearly CCP know that people are walking away!!
Personally the length of down time is not my issue. The bad customer service is my issue. One key aspect of any type of customer service is setting realistic expectations and sticking to them. The says two and half hours and we six or seven. Again and again. A few SPs can not make up for all the game time I have paid for and lost in the last week if my expectations have been continually broken.

it would be great when those 'extended downtimes' stick with those times they display.
i missed 1 day of good mining and some good loot and salvage the last time. its ok we get atleast something like skillpoints to soften the pain but in the past 6 weeks we have had 3 of such extended downtimes.
it is freaking annoying to know the mods place a time and know well they never can guarantee this time.

Now i know it's not most peoples strong suits to be able to wait, and most of them suffer from some sort of compulsive OCD but come on.
And to those who think they can do better? Why havn't you yet?
Why don't you stay in your beloved 2006? Now is 2010, and if you want to survive on the market this is not exactly the way!

I find it wearying to hear folks complain about the complainers so i am here to complain about the people who complain about complainers. You should shut up. People who complain are golden. They prove through their very words that they care about the product they are complaining about. Yes some people whine no matter what but not everyone does this and it is wrong to lump all complainers together. It shows you don't care to consider every person as an individual. The time to truly start worrying is when people stop complaining because that means they all just left and the product is fail.

This is just a game and nothing really important is going to happen if the severs burp and it takes a few more hours to sort out.
BUT we are all paying money for a service.
I understand the need for extended downtimes. If CCP sets an expectation that the severs will be down for 3 hours and it takes 3 1/2 hours, people will generally understand.
If CCP sets an expectation that server will be down for 3 hours and it take 5 (or more?) then people get ****ed.
A quick tutorial from server ops 101: If you think a deployment will take 3 hours, then set the expectation that the servers will be down for 6. Then if it takes 5 hours, everyone feels good.
Why do CCP repeatedly make this mistake of vastly underestimating the complexity of their deployments?

I wish they'd stop silently incrementing the patch completion time by an hour every hour.
Just set a time and stick to it. I understand these things take time but in my 7 years of playing Eve you have never, ever been on time regards a promised uptime when you're deploying a patch. Today you said it'd be completed by 14:30 eve time, then 15:00, then 15:30 then 16:00.

I agree. I think they set these underestimated (in fact ambitious based on past performance) times so people don't see it as a big thing. 'Ok, so it's down for a few hours, no problem'. I said I'd go out for a few hours and come back and do a few missions, it is my day off after all and I wanted to play some eve. Now I keep checking back and the time changes.
They should at least keep us updated as to why the time has changed rather than just change the displayed time and leave the rest of the message untouched.

Seriously, Its a technical difficulty, instead of ranting on how its taking so long, why not try to help and just leave them pressureless for a bit.
No, Im not a fanboy, but I do not like when people push my buttons over something that is unexpected and throw me every rock they can find in order to squeeze some more freebies.
All in all, really? More SP's? I wonder how many of you actualy predicted it would happen, put on a 4 day and above skill training and now are just poking about trying to ninja the skill quicker :P Understandable, but still ******ed.

You don't need any skills to fly the Primae
They only recomend you get the Planetary Industrial skill to make the most of the ship.
