Ok, this is going to be funny. I bet...but I am a market geek rememeber that...
Here I go. I have been doing like lvl 3 missions all my life. (Should I mention I am a 31 mill sp char) I am leaning against doing lvl 4 missions any day now after I found out that I have, what I guess, kinda good skills in launcher and shield.
I am solely using torpedos and my skills are as follows:
* Missile Bombardment - Level 5 * Missile Launcher Operation - Level 5 * Missile Projection - Level 5 * Rapid Launch - Level 5 * Target Navigation Prediction - Level 5 * Torpedo Specialization - Level 5 * Torpedos - Level 5 * Warhead Upgrades - Level 5
In the field of Sield I have as follows:
* Shield Compensation - Level 5 * Shield Management - Level 5 * Shield Operations - Level 5 * Shield Upgrades - Level 5 * Tactical Shield Manupulation - Level 5
Now, to my point. Will this be enough to solo level 4 security missions with torpedos or do I need to train all the cruise skills instead?
My Ship setup is as follows:
High Slots: * Siege Missile Launcher II * Siege Missile Launcher II * Siege Missile Launcher II * Siege Missile Launcher II * Siege Missile Launcher II * Siege Missile Launcher II * 250mm Compressed Coil Gun I
Medium Slots: * Heat Dissipation Amplifier II * Kinetic Deflection Amplifier II * Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II * Shield Boost Amplifier I * XLarge C5-L Emergency Shield Overload I * V-M15 Braced Multispectral Shield Matrix
Low Slots: * Co-Processor II * Power Diagnostic System II * Power Diagnostic System II * Power Diagnostic System II * Power Diagnostic System II
Ok, that's about it...and my question is again. What would I need to change or what would be your suggestions as upgrade to this setup in case I wanna solo ALL the mission not keeping them too hard on me.
Thanks guys! Best Regards, Cry

for mids you should go with the normal xl boost/amp/active hardners imo.
i use 4 active hardners and get really good resists which means very little shield boosts are needed

Fellow Raven pilot who solo runs level 4's here.
Reading this thread, one or two things made me lift an eyebrow.
1) Worlds Collide yield up to 100M in ISK? I assume this includes the estimated value of some very valuable loot. Can someone with first hand experience clarify? So far, I have always turned down this mission.
2) Those Gist-X named items that seem quite popular, where do they drop?

Edited by: Lain Khazar on 27/04/2006 15:07:14 Don't have eve-access for some time now, so a quick question:
will it be better to fit 1x xl-booster, 2x amplifier (to save cap)? or is it a wasted slot (what about stacking? still ok or awful?) and it would be better to fit one more hardener?
A alternative way of living... WTB: avatar-pic |

If a mission has only 2 damage types you are FAR FAR better to use extra resists than you are to use a shield boost amp. Going from 70 to 85% resist may seem like yer only getting a 15% increase, but you're actually reducing damage done by 50%. So if you would have taken 100 Therm dps, now you're taking 50 Therm dps instead.
The time to use shield boost amps is when you fight npcs that use all 4 damage types. Then throw on 2 Invulns and 1-2 amps, with the possibility of 1 hardener if they use one dmg type above all others.
Resists > *, just don't stack any resist more than 2 times or you are wasting the slot. Because of the stacking code now DMG Control Systems are worthless if you use 2 other resist modules for any dmg types (or if ya use 2 invulns). If you use only one resist amp/hard per resist type then dmg control is pretty nice.

So, you're saying that instead of completing the mission, you just harvest the bounties and loot, then let the servers reboot to reset the mission, and do it again each day for a week, before you cash in on the final run?

Yes, you can just do stage 1, stage 2 gustias, stage 2 serpentis and then wait for them to respawn and go again :D

Having never done that particular mission: why would that be lucrative to farm it and not apply the same approach to other level 4 missions? What is it in particular about it that makes that worthwhile?

Simply the amount of money you get per run, also the mission doesnt require a DT to fully respawn, just run it leave it an hour then go back and start again ----------------------

Some of you suggest using 2x Heavy NOS to help sustain cap. I tried it. It works nice for lvl 4 mission with NPCs that come closer than 21km. If you depend on NOS instead of cap injector, how do you cope with missions with multiple BS that keep you beyond 21km, even if you approach them?
Anyone else ran into this problem?

I went through and couldn't see any mention of a Raven passive tank, would anyone happen to be using a decent lvl4 mission running setup with a passive shield tank, and if so could they post it? And if an active tank is always superior for lvl4s in a raven, could someone explain precisely why? Thanks |

The base shield recharge rate is inherently horrible on a Raven and thus even improving it will make it inferior to an active tank.

Here is what I plan to use on vl 4 missions...
6x Arby Cruise launchers
1x T2 XL shield booster 1x Dark Blood Heavy Cap Booster (with 800 charges) 1x Shield boost amp (going to try and get a Domination amp) 3x T2 hardeners (mission specific)
4X T2 BCUs 1X T2 PDU
If I have enough cpu/grid I want to fit 2x Heavy Diminishing Noses. I have 7x Hammerhead 2s in the drone bay.
I plan on having 8 charges and 800 missiles in my cargo hold. That leaves me 265m3 for lootz.
If you have any suggestions let me know...

That 4th BCU is such a waste. You're only gaining 25% of its bonus due to stacking penalties.

Dont waste time on FoF's, they do CRAP damage and you're usually only jammed one cycle (makes a nice time to reload all your launchers anyway).
I started doing lvl 4's using arby sieges, after 2 days i swapped to cruise's and im so NOT going back to torps ever..there is just too many cruisers and too few bs's. ___________________________ Brutors Rule! My Eve-vids; Click. |

This is my setup and i do all the missions solo most of the time and whene my friend comes with me with his marchinel i dont even have to boost sometimes but i think you need good skills for this setup:
HIGH SLOTS: 6x T2 cruise missiels lunchers
2x 75mm t2 rail guns with t2 ammo (i change this as well to 125 or 150 mm T2 guns depending on how many frigs there are) This can also be changed for two heavy nos sometimes but i go for damage most of the time
MED SLOTS: T2 large shield booster
Gurista invu field (T2 works fine as well i was using it before i got this one)
2x spesific gurista passive shield hardeners depending on the mission
Cap recharge T2
Painter the one you can use i use Phased weapon navigation arrey generation extron
LOW SLOTS: Warp core stab
4x power diagnostic system T2
you can also take out the painter fit a cap recharge on that slot and have a balistics in the low slots it all depends what you prefer faster killing or being able to stay in for longer.
And drones get your self some webing drones they are easy to train for and they are a slot saver since you dont loos a slot for the web and the range on them is better but if you can use t2 drones than maybe that is even better i dont know dont have the skills for t2 drones.

HIGH:6x Arby siege (6m isk per launcher)
MEDIUM:XL T2 booster (2m isk), gistii a type small booster (75m isk), 2x major damage type hardener (800k each), 2x minor damage type hardener(800k each).
LOW:4x PDU T2 (4m isk each), 1x cap power relay (40k isk?).
The whole fit costs about 240m isk or thereabouts and works magnificently.
See the post here to explain the power relay

CPR's are a bad idea. If you do the math you know that, if you go on what you 'feel' you don't know that.

Just wanted to add my setup as it has been very successful for me:
6x Arby cruise/siege 2x 250mm Prototype Gauss
1x XL Shield Booster II 1x Shield Boost Amplifier 1x Best named target painter 3x Active/Passive hardeners (Guristas: Kin/Therm & AB)
2/3x PDS II 2/3x BCU II
5x Rat-specific Med Drone II / 1x Berserker TP-900
I will use anywhere from 6 cruise to 2 cruise/4 siege depending on # and type of enemy battleships I expect to face. I personally love my 250's...most of the enemies I face are cruisers, and the 250's help alot. Most of the NPC cruisers seem to like to orbit between 15-24km, which lets me load AM or thorium and do some decent damage.
The Target Painter is, to me, the most important module on my Raven. With signature focusing 4 this boosts sig radius by 36%. If it doesnt seem like that much, take a look at the missile guide and see what that 36% will do for you I'm not sure how the TP drone stacks, but it is a noticeable increase.
Tactics are, warp in at 80km, start painting the cruisers and take them down 1 by 1, jammers first. As they close, launch 4 med drones and the TP drone. Have the TP drone obviously paint your primary target. If there are frigs, med drones start on those, if not, med drones attack primary. After cruisers are dead, recall the TP drone, launch another med, and kill the BS(s).
If I anticipate a very tough fight there are some variations on the setup. Basically I keep a Heavy Cap Booster and some T2 Large Extenders around in case I need them.

He is trading maximum sustainable tank for hands free opperation. If it isn't pushing his tank below viability, then it is a perfectly reasonable, though unussual, design choice.
If he is handling lvl 4's in a particualrely complex manner, not having to manage his shields manually, may, in fact, be improving his effective tank. Nothing quite like accitentally crashing your shield tank, because you got your cycle off.

Never underestemate the power of forum necromancy
And so I dont get flamed for trolling heres my setup
6xT2 Cruise launchers 2x TS Heavy Nos 1x large T2 booster 2x named shield boost amps and three active hardeners as required 2x BCU 3x T2 PDU
with the two boost amps you get the same shield boost as a XL booster with a tiny cap cost, the loss of one BCU for an additional PCU is better imo as the extra BCU would provide about 30% of its listed bonus and the T2 cruise can kill everything Ive found on a level 4 anyway

I read all the posts in this thread, and a lot of people are saying they prefer cruise versus siege because there are usually a lot more hitpoints worth of cruisers to kill in the missions, compared to BS hitpoints.
When I first put siege launchers on my Raven I was *very* unimpressed with the damage done to rats (especially cruisers). I tore them off the ship in disgust and threw them into a dark corner of the hangar, then fitted cruises instead, which had 'okay' killing power (with named launchers, tech I ammo).
Later, on a whim, I tried the the siege launchers again, but fitted a target painter. WHOA!! Suddenly I was doing near-max damage on BS's and also HUGE damage to cruisers. Cruisers that had been laughing at me before were getting trashed pronto when painted and torped. Now I can't even imagine using torps without a painter.
Questions: It looks like nobody fits Large Shield Extender II's. Apparently the slot is more valuable for resist modules and boosting? Also, I've read some places that cap injecting your Raven works great (especially for PvP), but I don't see many folks in this thread with one fitted for level 4's. Is that due to charge costs?
