Hi
Could you please be more specific about your question? Eve already supports dual monitors to an extent. Do you mean with increased functionality? Do you have any ideas of what some of these functions might be?
If you are simply asking a question, it probably belongs in General Discussion or possibly EVE New Citizens Q&A -ReverendM

Specifically I mean features such as:
- being able to display in game UI windows on a second monitor (such as eve markets, map, etc
Have you seen what they have done with Supreme Commander?
Having dual monitors is becoming more common as they become cheaper and so I wondered if yiou guys had plans for anything - hence asking in here not Gen Chat.

Aditionally what I'd like to see is:
A single eve main client, which first runs, connect and loads in mem. Then a small UI loads and appear let's say like a mini task bar on ur monitor on top, where you can [a] via a menu where you can input several Accounts + Pass or [b] has a Username/Pass box in the bar.
This EvE main client will then authenticate and load the desired account/char upon clicky to the preset monitor in full screen and will load the 2nd account/char to the next monitor in full screen as well.
Also if ever you get disconnected or dropped, you just return to the main client and just re authenticate your account rather than need to go click close on 2-3x eve clients and reload 2-3 eve clients again a real pain.
Also as being asked, the eve main client can allow for an account/char to be in one monitor and send maps and stuffs to second one.
Mostly like a fully customizable EvE main client and allows you to run multiples eve accounts without the hassle of loading loads of current eve clients as we do atm.

Eve dual monitor setups would be sweet. I'd love to be able to put functionality on one monitor and fly on the other. I have a 42inch monitor with 1360x768 that would be perfect for flying while I had all my widgets and module interface on my 22 inch 1680x1050 screen.

Well, all you Devs need to do is implement the possibility to shut off that stupid "feature" of the game to minimize itself when the game looses it's focus. Very simple: There's a little routine in the base code that checks if the game has the focus. If it has, the game continues as normal. If it doesn't, the game minimizes itself and maybe adds a little delay before it checks again. Now, add a little checkbox in the escape window, under adapter and device. Let it say i.e. "Dual Monitor Support". Now, if that one is checked, that little routine that I explained above, won't be executed anymore.
Now, on later updates you may add more options to a second screen, but this would be the best you could do for now... --- The future begins now - in EVE we live it, in real life we create it! |

I want the second monitor to be a big black space where I can dump all of the lil windows, so the IGB, the chats, the market, info boxes, mission briefings, cargo, can's etc etc, anything that shows up in a "normal" window.
The other monitor can keep the 3d view, the overview, the targets, the control panel and the quick launch bar.
Like that silly wide screen option, except instead of black bars top and bottom make the entire right hand half go black, reposition the overview, control panel and targets appropriately and we're done.

There have been several posts on this, but I never see a developer response.
I've been running a horizontal span, thus can't really see my ship (UI is split down the middle between the two monitors). I imagine it would be straightforward to implement some flexibility, so it would be nice to hear CCP is at least considering it.
I find it completely necessary to use both monitors for my Eve UI. There's no way I could possibly go back to stacking all my windows in one monitor. CCP, please respond!

I'd actually really like to see CCP just rip an idea right out of Supreme Commander's book and keep the system map permanently active on one screen, as well as being able to move things like the market, chat channels and so on over there.
At the moment, I run EVE windowed on my main monitor, and keep TS, WinAmp and all the other programs I tend to run while playing open on the other. ***

I guess I have an interesting question. I've been hunting around for a way to get EvE to run at 4800x1200. Before I finished getting the rest of my system I easily ran at 3200x1200, however this was through the use of nVidia's horizontal span which unifided the 2 outputs on my 7900 to act as 1 desktop. now that i have a 7950 and a 7900 and 3 monitors, horizontal span is no longer an option. When I loaded Eve for the first time after fiddling with drivers for 2 hours (Since I run 2003 drivers are quite a fun issue). When eve came up, it came up in 3200x900, the last resolution I was using, but I have 3 monitors each running at 1600x1200 and no unification on the desktops. So I cleverly put eve in the dead center. Eve drew across all the monitors very well. Not perfectly, but I had at least 20 frames and decided to see if I could set the resolution to 4800x1200 in the graphics options. That was a no go and ended up at 1600x1200 on accident looking for my pretty extremely wide resolution.
So I decided, I know I CAN draw across all three, no to set the resolution. Most games have a cleverly placed ini or config file somewhere with resolutions. A little forum hunting and bam, prefs.ini was found along with a whole list on setting it up. But despite several attempts (another hour) the game seemed to ignore everything I tried with prefs.ini whether I was trying to set it for the basic defaults from an odd setting (which I had to set in game). The game always retained the settings from the last time the game was played. (though maybe if I reboot and clear the RAM and OS cache?).
Any info on setting the resolutions up would be nice.
Some other thoughts for people looking into it right now would be nVidia's Horizontal spanning or matrox's DualHead2Go and TripleHead2Go |

I've been considering getting another monitor but have been waiting to see if CCP implements proper support for it.
I'd like to be able to use both monitors with a single account and use one for the normal view - and the 2nd for chat windows, scanner, cargo, etc.
I'd also like to be able to properly run (ie: NOT windowed mode) 2 accounts side by side. Something like assign the active window (the one that has focus of the keyboard and mouse) to one monitor and to keep an eye on the other account. Then with a keyboard combo - switch - so that the 2nd account is now on the primary monitor - and the 2nd account is on the 2ndary monitor.

Not cheap, but the Matrox TripleHead2Go is probably what some of you are looking for. It will allow 3 monitors to be driven off of a single output. Some limitations involved, i.e., analog only, and it's restricted to standard resolutions. BUT, it is pretty transparent to EVE. Even some good screenshots of Eve playing on it on the web page.

My TripleHead2Go setup works excellently, and has done for over 6 months as EVE supports 3840X1024 rather than just stretch the display(aspect ratio is changed for 3840X1024 which is correct )
The FOV(Field Of View) of "in space"/"in station" display has increased by about 40% at a guess and the rest is stretched, but importantly the info boxes are NOT ! so text size is normal
Also one thing that worried me when I ordered my setup was the bezel between monitors, well there was no need as I don't even notice them

some good suggestions, dual monitor would be nice for the basic ideas mentioned.
Map, Market/Basic UI Windows moved to 2nd display, maybe other things like using the 2nd display when you "Look At Target" so you can see yourself and the person/NPC you attack.
The UI windows already have a button for minimising/closing and making sticky, maybe add another that jumps that window/group to the other display, same for the map etc, just add a button.

HAH! Eve has absolutely NO dual monitor support. This has been repeatedly asked for for years with no support from CCP.
You can run Eve in a window on a second monitor (losing almost all of your 3D acceleration), but that is a function of Windows. Not Eve.

Dual monitor support would rock for everyone. Being able to put things on a second monitor would be great. I mean if your lowsec or warring you can put up local and gang on the other window if your doing market and that kind of thing you can put that up there...*drools* Would also be worth me training targeting higher if we could move the overview to the second monitor. Becuase as it stands when I lock my max targets the last one is next to the edge were as if the overview was on another screen would free up space.
Also not anything to do with dual monitor but if we had the option of spliting off gang and drones from the overview would be great.

Eve actually did support multi-monitors 2 or 3 years ago and had it as an option in the gfx setup, best config was 3 but it was very buggy at the time so the base code for it is already in (unless it got stripped)
3x monitor support for a single client can be had through a bit of kit made by matrox, wee black box that splits the vga signal so u kinna have uber widescreen eve. But multi monitor with ui support would be sweet. Clear up the HUD area during combat so there is no need to close/minimise chat windows etc. ........

I would be happy just to maximise to screen - at the moment most of us are running windowed mode and using evemon to do that. Just make a maximise to screen option in the graphics controls and I'd be happier.
I personally think the FPS would drop through the floor for most people if they actually made it use 2 monitors.

Bumping! Have run dual setups for a year now, and this game CRAVES dual monitor support.
How about having the ship, the control buttons and overview on one monitor, and the ability to put chat windows, markets, map, show info boxes etc etc etc on the other monitor? Or better yet just allow the player to arrange it as he sees fit - maybe slide the overview over there, put those menu buttons down here... you get the idea.
Please give us some real dual-monitor support! ________

There seems to be most demand for dual monitor support where you can stick all the windows cluttering your flight experience. Let's start with that. Then make all elements positionable, i.e. overview, market, chat channels, drone interface, gang, map, etc.

I routinely run two eve clients on my two monitors, without a considerable slowdown. The trick is to run in Horizontal Span mode. This gets rid of the whole primary/secondary problem in windows, as they are treated as the same to windows (splitting is done in the driver/card). This works great for two clients on two monitors, but can't really scale past that. The Triplehead2go works for 3.
All they really need to do is an option to move the center of focus. If there was a way to move the center of focus to say 25%left, or 25% right, instead of just 50%, it would allow us to span it across both screens, and just move all the modal windows to the right screen, next to the overview, withough splitting the ship/modules in half.

That could also be used by people that are running EVE on very wide-screen monitors. They could clutter one side of the monitor with the static windows and then have the space view having its center somewhere else on the screen so that they can still see what is going on all the sides of the warp tunnel. ----- http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online ----- Top 3 wishes: 1: No daily downtime. 2: Updated dump of the database. 3: An update of the ingame browser, to fix ex: slow tables. |

In game industry you MUST know these 3 rules: 1-Cheat, 2-Cheat!, 3- hmm? oh ! almost forgot! C-H-E-A-T !!!!!!
Do NOT develop fency dual screen support! You already can play on Dual screen with the actual build ! you just need to run the game on high resolution... FPS is just fine on my x1800 (Even if Ati is a piece of crap... )
But it cause a mojor problem! ship is splitted!? and HUD too! Damn! Is it that complicated to figure out !?
The problem is stupid and there is 2 solutions: a complicated and expensive one, Then the simple and "why didn't we tough about that ourself?" one.
Solution 1- complicated $$$ Split the Main interface in a Dual viewport interface that you can easyly slide from left to right! , has in 3Dmax, Maya... But that could be tricky if you have engine limitation... You would need good programming ressources (lot of time and $$$) if your engine core has no such support at all.
Solution 2- Simple! Instead of wasting money in rewriting the engine Core, just use the already integrated panel on the left side. Make it easy to expend from left to right by mouse drag or a button. That panel may not be ideal for enabling a 3D render, BUT since it's scripting already support content update( flashing icons and update of the wallet...) The Fonctions must already all be there in the engine to support a pre-configured Empty grey panel that when enabled, just take half of one screen. Then the user set the graphic size to one that fit it's dual screen setup.
A GREY PANEL? yep! You just need to change the superposition order of the left panel so that the Chat, market and any other ANNOYING floating windows could be DRAGED OVER!
SIMPLE! No additionnal render cost = no FPS drop. and CHEAP!

...blah blah... settings that only ATI has.
Do you propose that we all switch to ATI graphic cards just to play Eve, missing out on some of the things we enjoy in every other game we play? Geforce cards cannot do what you have suggested.
Even having the ability to change the centre of the view by dragging the GUI to the centre of the primary monitor would help. Then stretching the view across two screens wouldn't split the gui in half. The floating GUI has been asked for many times in the past. If the external view camera was aimed at the GUI, this would give a 'car drivers' view with part of the windscreen across the passenger side. This little used viewing are could then be used to accommodate the windows.
However, unless you use SLI, the FPS of the second screen is usually a lot less. My idea above allows SLI users to have dual monitor support but those of us who use a single graphics card would have a harder time due to the overall FPS drop that the second screen forces. The blanked area would enable us to use the second monitor without the FPS drop since video updates would be limited to what windows were put there rather than the view of space and whatever is flying in it.
Also Mathie, you suggest that dual screen is a cheat but you then suggest a way to do it How is dual screen a cheat if CCP program the ability into the game so everyone can use it?

Edited by: Mahtie on 28/03/2007 23:06:13 My friend, when I say Cheat I'm not talking to players! I'm talking to developper... Let me give you an exemple:
If I have a 3 minute cut scene to do at the end of a game whit 3 characters... Do you sincerly think I will animate the 3 characters during 3 minutes each? For a total of 9 minutes of animation? NO! we'll find a way to use camera angles so the player see all characters in the same camera view as less as possible. so if I hear character 1 talking to character 2 I will make the camera switch between the 2 character instead of have both of them on my camera angle. instead of animating both I will animate short clips for each of them... That is CHEATING.
IN the same fashion, they need to work within their engine limitations and find a cheat, a hack.. THEY need to find a way to work around the problem WHITOUT reprogramming the engine to detects both screens.
******************************************************************* ******************* TO COME BACK ON DUAL SCREEN ******************* *******************************************************************
What I'm telling DEV team, is that their engine must already be able to support a resolution that would fit in the pixel ratio of most standard widescreens and cards. You just need a resolution multiple of 2 screen wide and 1 of height.
So instead of telling the engine what to render on what screen, (wich would mean having the engine to Manage the videocard that manages the screens !?!? )
Just modify what is rendered and where on one single window. So When a player in the settings hit that resolution, starting from the left, the engine render a really light picture half of the width, then the engine would start rendering the heavy 3D on the other half.
No needs to tell the engine what to render on wich screen. Just tell the engine to render the "space" starting at a defined pixel. If you have one screen it makes no sense, but if you got 2 , you can stretch the game on both screens, having your ship and HUD perfectly fitting on one and all the other annoying little windows on the screen that render barely nothing. Little Frame rate loss since half of the pixels are rendering text and static pictures.
For sure, Higher resolutions would need better videocards whit Dual-DVI
You just need to find the better resolution that would fit the engine and most videocard, and use what is already in the engine to save time and momney

My apologies, I misunderstood your intent. I stand corrected.
Cheating from a programming point of view is fine when used as with your cutscene analogy, it's the kind of thing that's used in the movie industry all the time.
However, as a programmer myself, to make changes in this way by hacking and jury rigging is a major no-no. It has to be done properly otherwise the whole thing falls over for some users and causes bigger problems than re-writing the original engine would have done.
Theere are as many players who have been asking for a floating GUI as there have been for dual screen support. This would be an ideal opportunity to make both camps happy.
Allow for the floating GUI with the option to have the camera centred on it and also allow for a parent info window to be opened to provide an opaque backdrop for the other windows (scanner, local and such) and also the overview if necessary. Personally, I find that being able to click on objects behind the overview can get really annoying when you want to target something from the overview in a busy environment, also the fact that a light background and/or target lines makes it hard to read the overview. Both of these make it necessary to move the camera view to remove external view interference. Having it on an opaque backdrop and free from external view interference would be a bonus.

I definitely agree on all counts with the dual monitor UI support ideas. One other thing I haven't seen mentioned would be the ability to run a normal ship view (with or without controls) on one monitor and a zoomed out technical overview layout on the other. I find that I usually fight with the overlay on zoomed out to about 50k or so, and it would be cool to have another monitor showing the closeup view with no controls (ala CTRL-F9), especially for capturing video or entertaining friends watching over your shoulder.

Signed! (again) As I signed before, and even posted own thread about that issue. Atm EVE does not support real dual monitor system. It only extends one window over another monitor. And like others says we need option to move ingame panels outside of main Eve window.
I would also like to point again on main overview issue: when you are in biger gang and or using drones, it is becames too crowded. --

Here is an idea that might help, but might also be very open to hacks: The eve client runs some sort of local IRC server so that normal IRC clients can be configured to connect to it. You only & minimize all the channels you want to connect to in your eve client & them become avalable to ur IRC client. This would mean that all the chat's could be run on a secondard monitor. Other option is secondary Cleint that connects to the main client, that is an cut down eve irc client.
Note: one can do some thing similar atm, via having Eve Log chat to file. The twp problems are: - file changes every time you log in to eve - can not reply to change, only see chat. You need a text view that will see updates to the file on the fly.
got to run now, might update with more info later. enjoy

Just re-upped my account and was immediately reminded of one of my biggest pet peeves about EVE: the appaling lack of real estate on the screen for all these damn windows!
EVE absolutely screams a need for Dual Monitor support. Hell, I came to this forum not really wondering if support existed, but how to enable it. It seemed like a no-brainer that it would already be there. Guess not.

IIRC dual monitor support used to be there but got removed somewhere along the way. I know I've see pics of it
That said, Eve would be fantastic with the ability to assign chat boxes, over-view, cargo hold, scanner, system map ... all that popup stuff over to a supplimentary monitor. Just imagine your main Eve display on a HD monitor in glorious 40'' plus (as some-one suggested already), with one or two supplimentery TFT displays for the rest of you needs.

Edited by: Osric Wuscfrea on 26/04/2007 13:37:00 I don't think I have played anything that supports multi monitors correctly. I have used Dual Monitors for about 5 years. I experimented with triple for a while, but dual suits my normal usage perfectly.
NVidia is ok with two using horizontal span, but the bezel sits in the middle of your FOV. Triple makes more sense for gaming, but is nigh on impossible to get working. Obviously the graphics card also take s a hammering and games don't support the 2nd card. I did hope that PCI-E would address this, but to no avail.
I also read up about Matrox Triple head, but you are limited to monitor type and resolution, i.e. 1024x 768 x 3, analogue. Ok for games, but I want better in daily use.
I for one, have just about given up hope of ever seeing it implemented in any game.
My new cunning plan is to massivly increase monitor real-estate instead. I'm going to say hello to a 30" widescreen next month... -- Rgds Mike WWW.Dead-Fish.com Deep Sea Daddies... |

Actually, Matrox just released digital version of their dual and triple head to go.
The digital dual head to go in addition now also supports two 1680 x 1050 screens.
And regarding the older models of the DH2G and TH2G, they are supporting
Resolution Refresh rate 2048 x 768 60, 75, 85Hz 2560 x 1024* 60Hz
for the dual analog and
Resolution 2048 x 768 (2x 1024 x 768) 60Hz 2560 x 1024 (2x 1280 x 1024 60Hz 2720 x 768 (2x 1360 x 768)** 60Hz 2880 x 900 (2x 1440 x 900)** 60Hz 3200 x 1200 (2x 1600 x 1200)*** 60Hz 3360 x 1050 (2x 1680 x 1050)** 60Hz 3840 x 1080 (2x 1920 x 1080)** 60Hz 3840 x 1200 (2x 1920 x 1200) 59Hz
for the analog.

Edited by: Krynn Darkhold on 26/04/2007 20:30:02 I want to add my support for dual/multi monitor support.
I see few games that actually warrant this but EVE definitely does. I think if we could simply float any of the overlay windows from the sidebar into another monitor it would be a great thing. Nobody has mentioned the Corp screens which can take up a lot of space themselves since some of the scroll buttons don't work right and we have to widen the screen just to see all the data. If you have the corp control open, market, item/ship comparison, any combination of chats, wallet, fitting, etc. it does get quite cluttered and you can entirely lose windows. Eve is a very complex game and one of few that I see a real need for utilizing multiple monitors.

I completely endorse this product and or service. Been running dual monitors for years myself. I do about the same with windowed mode and everything else on the other screen. Would be good to be able to DECIDE what goes on the auxilary screen as having the system name and stuff like that on the left and the overview on the right with the modules in some sort of split would Suck with a capital S.

Edited by: Krynn Darkhold on 02/05/2007 14:11:00 The mod reply was simply asking clarification. The point I get is that since the question was posed and we have made more specific comments that they're simply compiling the information. I know several devs from several companies and they simply can't respond to everything. In cases like this someone usually just farms the data and keeps track of how many people are interested versus not interested. I'd not expect any comments (though I can hope) unless one of three things happens:
1: firm no way is decided 2: more details are wanted 3: it's a comfirmed addition in a patch so you'd see it in a patch announcement
If they pop up their head otherwise someone's going to start shooting at it LOL This is EVE and I know someone's camping the thread with a battlecruiser ;)
Who knows maybe some of the comments above are from their player alts :)

And I don't want my ship split between 2 screens. Thats just tarded beyond belief.

I really don't know how comfortable you would be in a pod :P Just stick with your uber projector.
As far as dual monitor support, I just bought another monitor so that I can run two accounts, one in each. I knew in advance it would be in windowed mode, but having them not overlap is better than overlapping on one monitor, so I'm one step ahead, but I do wish that maximized or full-screen support for dual accounts existed, along with an off-set car driver view that has been mentioned already for running one account along both screens beautifully!
You've got my support, and I'd really like to see this by Rev 3.

Most windows apps can support all of the other windows on a 2nd monitor, would be great to see eve support it as well. I have come to the conclusion that it would be better to develop this functionality before working on more eye candy as to play the game properly I can't see the eye candy anyway through all of the other required windows.
Imagine being able to keep usefull stuff open AND play the game at the same time, that would change everything

Why does it seem to me, that no-one in dev reads the forum... all the good ideas for enhanced gaming experience seem to go unnoticed by the devs. And is that a way of saying: "make a petition"?
Well, at least as I'm concerned, the dual monitor support would be like a gift from heaven. And as the many said: Ability to split the gaming area to 2 or 3 zones which would be asily resizeable. Then anyone could make the game look and feel as they like to play.
The way I would personally use my dual setup, would be to get all windows to the second display and the 3d view to first.

If by some luck this does become a strong consideration by the dev team, I'd like to see full customization of the UI as far as which monitor it belongs to. What I'd like is to be able to have everything but the ship HUD with its modules movable to a second window or tray, if one so wished.
I'd also like an option to put the tactical overlay in a second monitor. For instance, you're piloting your ship on the first at a relatively close range, but on the 2nd is a view zoomed out to various presets (25km, 50km, etc) with the tactical overlay applied and all overview settings duplicated.

Info: I play EVE spanned across two 15" crt monitors. It's not bad, took some getting used to, but overall it makes EVE playable.
Idea: It was broached a couple times by people about adjusting the UI itself. That would be the first and easiest step in terms of implementing Dual Monitor Support.
WoW (I hate to use it as a reference) had great support for customized UI's, but more importantly, many of the UI packs allowed for movable UI objects. Shortcut bars, bags, unit frames.
Such would be excellent for EVE. We already have something similar for the chat windows, ie: pinning. Something similar could be setup for other ui elements such as targeting, ship ui, market info, ect.
Though, Market, Fitting, and other such windows are already floating and fully movable. But when playing spanned, the ship ui gets cut in half and on a crt monitor, the bezels between each can make it difficult to see the important information.
I think a more robust UI, with limited customization options such as position, element size, and visibility, would be a major bonus to many of us who are playing across multiple monitors. A future enhancement would definitely need to include the usage of a second 'child' window where we could pull up or move pertinent information to it. And given the flexibility of DirectX, that shouldn't be too hard.... maybe? ====================================

I would think the simplest way to implement this in windowed mode would just be to allow the client to spawn extra windows (map, market and communications comes to mind). That way one can use the Windows desktop directly and arrange your windows however you like.
In full-screen mode I guess the best solution for two-monitor setups is to keep the 3D stuff on one monitor and have an empty area on the other monitor to where you can drag the windows you like. . Griatch

This would really set the game apart. I'd like to have one screen for the 3D lovliness and ship control; anything that is related to moving or activating ship modules on one side.
On the other side I would like a tactical overview. Have some room to spread the overview out and get all the useful data on there, room for a less cramped chat window, and maybe even other stuff such as drone control.
At the moment I have maybe a third of my screen for looking at the good graphics, and as much as I'm looking fwd to Trinity 2, I'm also wondering how much of it I will get to gawp at.

Main Screen: Ship GUI, drone control, 1st overview
Sec. Screen: Chat Channels, Maps, 2nd overview (different settings and with multiple rows), market/contract window

I've been working on my own 3d engine off and on (mostly off to be honest, coding A.D.D. itt) and the last feature i added was support for dual monitors. I haven't quite finished it as yet, i've had some problems with window positions if the primary monitor is the right hand screen, rather than the left, but i can tell you it's more complicated than simply creating another window. There are all sorts of problems you need to consider. It's probably not feasable to try to implement it in the current engine, however i would be disapointed if they haven't at least tried to work it into the new engine they have planned. It is the kind of thing you need to design in early on.
ps. Dear CCP. Start a small offshoot development site in northern ireland. I'll work for you.

We got nothing new in trinity...
And why do we have to use external application (eve launcher) to be able to use fullscreen windowed mode? (actually it just strips borders from eve window).
Dual monitor support, improving user interface and of course fixing existing bugs without adding new content should be priority.

Personally, I've felt that the most practical application of wide screen support in EVE goes pretty much like: Link
Or, if you're feeling particularly sadistic and want to make your graphics card cry, you can also do this: Link
Having the ability to separate a star map (or various components of the UI) from the in-game view without having to render 3D across both monitors and destroying performance in the process, would be quite a handsome feature that I wholeheartedly support!

Thanks V
I just had a really sick idea if CCP ever gets around to full multi-monitor support: 1 projector, 2 19-21" touch-sensitive screens. Main flight UI on the projector, with only 3-d content (space view), split the ship interface (modules, cap, etc), overview, and other combat controls to one of the screens, with full ability to use the touch screen to activate/deactivate modules, target other ships, etc. The other screen would have all of your modal dialogs, chat boxes, etc.
Maybe something like this? Fear my leet MS Paint skills!

It doesn't strip anything--it moves the window so it exactly takes up the full screen. I still see the borders on the edge of my other monitor.

For those of us that use Vista there is no way to do it at all. There is no longer the span option for multiple monitors, and an external device is not an option because my monitors are two different sizes(1920x1200 and 1600x1200) I would love to just be able to set the screen to 3520x1200 and run in full mode. My ship would still be on one monitor because of the size difference. --------------------------------------------------

I'd be happy with 3D on center screen and 2D windows and other stuff on left and right displays.
Ideally being able to script what goes where would be, well, ideal.
I run a 27" center and two 19" side displays rotated into portrait mode.

It would be awesome if we'd be able to run a client on each monitor, with windows however, this isn't possible...
A client that can run multiple accounts could be a solution, it'd probably save a lot of workload for the computer and also make it more likely that people buy another account, win-win

I can span Eve across my 2 24" monitors no problem. The only problem is that the ship is in the middle of the screen and thus half on one screen and half on the other. What would be handy is if you could shift the ship so it was in the center of the left screen or the center of the right screen. It would warp one side of the screen so it looks abit like a big fish eye lens but lets face it, If u got all ur market and evemail and other windows opened who cares.

Vista seems to work fine with spanning the window across monitors for me, they got rid of span mode in vista, because it was not needed. A window can span multiple displays on the same GPU without the performance hit of previous windows versions. In Your case, what you need to do is create a custom resolution at 3520x1200. Don't actually use this resolution, but just having it in the list should make it available for choosing windowed mode size. Then just position the window to the borders, and you should have your dual monitor gaming.

I have Vista and Nvidia 8800GT and 2 monitors with 1280x1024 resolution and EVE does offer only 3 screen sizes: 1024x768, 116?x???, 1280x1024. There is no option to set the EVE's window to something like 2048x960 something.
Btw. as I play EVE only in windowed mode (because disabling Outlook, Firefox, Excel, MSN, Skype, etc etc isnt an option when playing eve fullscreen) and I would like to benefit from 2 screens, I would like 2 separate EVE windows for one client. So I can view the normal space view in one and have starmap or solarsystemmap constantly open in another. Another good use for those 2 (or more?) window mode is that if you actually happen to have more than 2 monitors, you can freely move them to whatever monitor you desire.
And rightclick on any of the eve's windows header should allow to "send to screen X"
extra use for 2 views option -> the normal 3d space view should be allowed to render from slightly different angles so one could use those 3D glasses or helmet so that for both eyes are rendered separate picture.
UPGRADE TO WINDOWED MODE
1. Please make the EVE window borderless (or give us option to set them borderless). Borders are horrible and specially horrible in Vista. They serve no purpose for EVE, since you can't actually resize the EVE window anyway from them. Just for having the minimize and close button on the titlebar is good enough reason. Also for moving the window around you could assign other regions of screen for that.
2. Give us more (or even better, with self configurable X and Y variables) window size options.
3. not sure if this is doable at all, but I would like to move EVE's in-game windows OUT of the EVE window. What I mean is that I would like to move, for example, market/chat/items/cargo etc. windows to another physical screen out of EVE's window...

This is already possible using NVIDIA's Stereo3D drivers. Just about any DirectX 3D game will work with them, the only complications arise from how the game uses 2D elements (like the HUD, target reticle, etc) which eve does just fine.

The easiest way is to use a tweaking program, like Powerstrip. It has the ability to create custom resolutions. You won't be able to actually USE this resolution, as your monitors don't really support it, but it should add it to the list of available window sizes in Eve.

In fact i think this should pretty much be top priority. My screen is completely cluttered with UI junk (chat, people/places, overview, drones, fleet & broadcast, system information targets, quick buttons, ship readout, mods ect..)

I also agree I would love to have 1 sceeen ONLY with the space / station view and the OTHER screen only for all the windows inside (chat, market, char specs etc) and be able to tell the client where to place things. I wouldnt even care if it was a separate client to do it! I would make the experience of eve so much nicer.

Edited by: Sanduleak on 26/01/2008 09:22:34 OK, for the nVidia 8800 Series on XP, I just figured my own out. Yes, custom resolutions are possible!
Note: My instructions will read as if I'm a little gruff, but that's because I don't write operational orders to be poetic. Here's the salt:
Note: You will, from this moment forward, run EVE windowed, not full-screen. Note: Only a cherry runs it full-screen anyway. Note: What you're doing is fooling Windows into thinking that your monitor supports whatever resolution you're about to create. Note: EVE is dumb. It simply interrogates Windows to find out what resolutions to offer you for EVE's client window. Note: This is why you're going to tell Windows you have a custom size, so that that custom size will be available to the EVE client. Note: DON'T EVER SELECT THAT CUSTOM RESOLUTION FOR WINDOWS ITSELF TO USE. YOU MIGHT IRREPARABLY DAMAGE YOUR MONITOR / GRAPHICS ADAPTER. Note: What you're doing is telling THE EVE CLIENT WINDOW to use that resolution after you start EVE.
So, here goes:
1: Install the latest nVidia drivers from the site. 2: Install the nTune driver from the site. 3: Install Coolbits ForceWare registry modifications from guru3d.com. 4: Reboot now just because I said so. 5: Open the 'nVidia Control Panel \ Display \ Manage Custom Resolutions.' 6: If you have more than one monitor, pick one. 7: Click the 'Create' button, then the 'Advanced' button. 8: Drop the 'Timing Standard' droplist down and select 'Manual.' 9: Remember the current setting for the 'Desired Refresh Rate.' Change the 'Desired Refresh Rate' to something like 56. 10: Then change the 'Horizontal Desktop Pixels' and 'Vertical Desktop Lines' to the resolution you want the Window-Mode EVE Client to run. 11: Before step 12, know that you can potentially damage your monitor (unlikely) or see a black screen (not very likely) when you do step 12. 12: Click Test, and hopefully you will see a confirmation box whose 'OK' button you can quickly click so as to return your monitor to a proper refresh rate. 13: Now go return the 'Desired Refresh Rate' to whatever it was before you changed it. 14: Now click 'OK.' 15: You will be returned to the nVidia Control Panel and you should see your new resolution in the 'Custom Resolutions' for that monitor. 16: Rinse and repeat for any other monitor.
Note: I have two monitors, a 24" and a 22". I made my custom resolutions such that the EVE clients running on any given monitor have EXACTLY the dimensions that fit the available space remaining after the other things I want visible (such as my Windows taskbar).
SO THIS WORKS or I wouldn't be running 1914x1072 on the 24" or 1674x1022 on the 22" monitor.
Note: If you have more than one monitor, then you have more than one logical display adapter in Windows - one for each monitor. When you start EVE, go to the 'Display and Graphics' tab and drop the 'Display Adapter' droplist. Notice you have more than one logical display adapter. You will select, for the EVE client window you've just started, the proper logical adapter corresponding to the monitor upon which you'll be running that particular EVE client window. Once you do that, voila, you'll see the custom resolution(s) you defined available for EVE to use on that monitor. They'll be different for each logical adapter if you have different monitor sizes like I do.
OK, so now, to all the smart arses who answered people meanly about this process: If you had any dalls, you'd try to help people. Only an insecure, rubber-spined fartknocker tells people 'you should know how to do it.' I've been in IT for 15 years now and I had to figure this out with my new box. I guarantee I know more about Windows than you do. So next time you go to post, make sure you're not wasting forum space.
To those with the 8800 issue, I hope this helps you. I'm running three copies of the client concurrently at weird-arse resolutions as I type this. Rock on!

I like to have the market and ship info open when traveling but it blocks the ship and interferes with navigation and would cause me die if I had them open during combat.
Also when putting together a new ship I end up getting lost on the way to pick up each part so being able to have the starmap up on the side would be a plus. Then I can see where I am going AND use the stargate/watch the activity in the system at the same time --Bird of Prey: Forum God

When CCP? When are you going to give us multi-monitor-support for EvE?
Like so many others said, just make the second screen a blackboard, where we can put our chats, market, etc...
I run different resolutions on my 2 screens, so the split-thingy was never an option, and who likes to have his ship and UI splitted anyways? .

With the way EVE is already moving with having the ability to move in-game modules (windows) around, it seems that a second monitor should be able to do a few different things. Being able to choose which monitor you want the ship centered on would be nice. This might leave a blank screen on the secondary monitor or better yet a nice "module background" with some sort of EVEish textures.
no matter what is chosen, I would still like to have option of having whichever modules a player wanted on the flight screen as everyone has different playing styles.
My two cents...

Agreed on the multiple monitor support (not just dual).
Anyone who's used Photoshop has probably noticed that your palette windows can be moved around, independant of Photoshop's main window, even if Photoshop is maximized. AND, those palettes will remember their location next time you open PS. Not sure if that's do-able with a 3D game, as I have not seen ANY 3D games that will let you bounce between apps without the "OMG, we lost focus, minimize the game quick and flickers the screens annoyingly" affect.
But if you could just open the game, and then move the chat window clean off the Eve client window to anywhere on your desktop, that would be workable. You can move every palette window from Photoshop to as many different monitors as you want, so that the entire Photoshop main window is uncluttered except for the image you're working on.
Not as good as having a checkbox for declaring monitor x as the "Hud" or "Utility" window, dedicated to map, chat, etc, but it would be a step in the right direction. Signature file size to big, please keep it under 24000 bytes - Petwraith |

It would be nice with multiple monitor support (like photoshop). I'd move chatwindows, overview, fleet, broadcasts, drones, scanner, starmap and cargohold windows and arrange them on the other monitors (if I had the chance).
Also it would be sweet with some kind of savable worksheets that one could easily switch between. Say that for combat I only want certain windows open and on certain locations (like scanner, fleet, overview and such, including specific overview setups). I could arrange the windows and save them as "Combat" for example. I could then arrange other windows (trade, map, contracts) and so forth and save it as another worksheet. Switching between worksheets could be linked to keyboard shortcuts or small buttons in the interface.
So if I press "hotkey1" then all windows would re-arrange, new ones would open and my overview would automaticly load the overview settings saved in the worksheet.
edit: added worksheets and corrected spelling

I'd like to start a petition to allow choices of different FOV angles. If not a selectable choice, then please at least a specific default FOV for each resolution.
Problem: Using a triple-monitor display on 3840x1024, planets all look like flattened eggs if not directly in the center of the middle monitor. A wider default viewing angle on higher widescreen resolutions would be immensely appreciated.

Here is my setup: desktop screen is 1440x900, main screen is 1680x1050. I have it apparently round the wrong way due to having the main display switchable from PC to TV, but still needing to see my windows taskbar etc on the other screen. I'm using vista and do not have nvidia nview because it's not yet available.
Unfortunately this confuses Eve somewhat. I play in windowed mode, and Eve starts up on the desktop screen, sized to fit. If I'm not watching TV then I'll drag the Eve window to the main screen so I can see it better. Now it is too small, being sized for the small screen I use for the desktop. The problem is, I cannot make it any bigger. There is one higher resolution but it's not a widescreen one and hence doesn't fit. If the 1680x1050 option was available (and windows already knows it is available), or I could resize the window by dragging the corners, that would be great.

Yes CCP this won't die until we get some sort of dual screen support.
The ideal situation would be: 1) That my ship isn't centered across the whole 2 screens - just centered on 1 monitor of my choosing 2) That the other monitor is used for window management. With the UI getting more complex each patch, it is becoming VERY difficult to manage the UI effectively.

I wholeheartedly agree with the idea.
- At a bare minimum I'd want to have the system map on the second screen, ala Supreme Commander default.
- At a second level, I'd want to move UI portions off the first screen onto the second e.g. chat, overview, any floating window.
- Ideally, I'd want what Supreme Commander does but better, which is where both views are the exact same 3D view, with interchangeable 2D UI on top, with independent control. In other words, in that game, I can zoom in to two entirely different areas of the map independently on either screen.
It's important to note that spanning is not dual monitor support, at least not by any usual graphics definition, as that requires no support in the application and just ends up with a widescreen version split across several monitors - in the case of two, your ship ends up split down the middle of the screen. ___ "If you can't debate using logic & fact, and at least recognise other people's point of view, don't waste time posting on forums. There would be no 'significant tactical advantage' by moving chat windows and things like market, asset, and such to the 2nd monitor. I don't suspect people would actually move their overview and dronebay over there, as it's better to have them in the same screen as the action that is unfolding.

I run 5 clients at one time on one pc. I have the top intel quad core processor, max ram. Three nvidia 8600 video cards each feeding a single monitor. I split the 5 clients amonst the three monitors. You have to be careful to associate the right client with the right video card (and monitor). Once you get it worked out, this setup works great for things like group mining, etc. It is not a good setup for pvp. This setup worked in XP and now in Vista. You do need to kill unneccesary backgroud processed to free up system resources.
So it is possible to run multiple clients on a single pc with the right hardware setup....

Wasp: Not quite wat the thread is talking about. Eve has for a long time worked fine with multiple clients on multiple monitors. The request here (over a year ago, i might add) is for a single client to effectively use multiple monitors, to alleviate some of the screen clutter. You can currently span the game across two screens, but you end up splitting th action down the middle, which doesn't work very well. I they gave the ability to either move the center of action to the left or right 1/4 point, it would leave a whole second monitor's worth of space to place aux windows (chat, mail, market, etc.) |

So, the one and only thing CCP did about this so far is saying "EVE has a dual screen support to some degree" (Really? Where??) and linking it into "commonly proposed ideas"... I guess, that last thing - the link - shows that CCP isn't really considering that dual screen support... --- "Multiple exclamation marks are a sure sign for a diseased mind." -Terry Pratchett |

I would love to see an expansion on the "full movable UI". Like dragging my map over to screen two and leaving it open allowing me to play on screen 1 and navigate my fleet from screen 2. Move my guns, and speed UI around and be able to get multiple views from my camera drones (listed in several of the stories). By that I mean having a view of my ship on screen 1, and screen 2 cut into 4 squares each overlaying my map as my map slides below these 4 new windows. (like photoshop's layers) On each of these 4 squares are 1 of my camera drone's point of view, each on a dif target going from secondary, to third and fourth.

It would be cool to have a camera centered on your own ship, and then have a cinematic monitor that would be centered on a drone. Or at least thats how I would use the second/extra monitors. Additionally, There is just SO much comparison making in Eve. Constantly looking at stats and making choices when suiting up your ship, its needed.
The having more monitors is like having a bigger desk, more room to work in -> more fun.

I'd like to see this implimented, I've just brought a 2nd monitor and was distraught to find I have to split my ship in half in order to make user of them both, Id much rather have a blank area I can drag parts of the UI onto, much like there is a player mod to do in World of Warcraft. (as much as I hate to mention that game, its relevant in the fact that there are mods availible to allow you to use two screens, and WoW doesnt even need two screens!) Dual monitors works fine with windows, but when I try to start eve in horizontal span mode, it does some crazy small resolution so I can't see everything on the menu (ie, can't change gfx settings) and it actually just turns off the second monitor. Don't just think of a dual monitor setup for screen clutter cleanup. One nice feature of the Star Trek: Armada game, which supported dual monitors, was that the 2nd monitor was an "action" monitor, with a cinematic-like view of the game. Would be a nice way to see what is going on in battles.
Do your thing in the left monitor, and you can poke your head over to your right monitor to see a nice cinematic view of two of your buddies in Ruptures flying around a hostile Domi shooting their autocannons at it point blank. With camera rotating around the Domi for a nice view.

Most definately signed. Infact why stop at two... why not be the first in the industry to allow me to use all 3 (technically 4 actually) of mine? :D
But yeah, two would be a start.
A couple of different formats I'd like to see. A black screen where maps and chat windows etc could be dragged would be fine, but as well as a black backround it would be very cool to have a 'zoom' screen that allows you to look at your target just like clocking the appropriate button, whilst leaving your main screen on your own ship. One of the things that annoys me above EVE combat is how impersonal it can be blasting away at 50km when your target is a few pixels on the horizon... much nicer to be able to see your beams hit home :D |

I'd be just as satisfied with only two monitors but that sort of idea. Viewing area for flight on one and the market, cargo, chat and stuff on the other monitor.
Since local, scanner and other windows are a MUST in lowsec and 0.0, Eve may as well not have graphics because we can't see much of them anyway. -- Sig design in training: Remaining time 30 years 20 days, 4 hours, 10 mins, 15 seconds. |

Pls the ability to move those widgets to a second monitor would help so much.. Also other ideas in this thread like having 2 3d views (one close, one long range battle view) are very nice, but have a lower priority imo.

Imo ui should have major focus atm, cuz simply it's the weakest link. For new peeps trying out eve seeing the un-robust, un-clear and quite frankly un-professional ui, is a major turn off.

This is the one area and am disappointed with ccp for lagging behind. I'm tired of playing this game "in the fog". When I undock I get a good look at my ship 'cause I know I'll be covering her up with a window.
1) minimum of dual screen support for eve ingame window relocation please.
2) It would be nice to be able to make window buttons larger for easier clicking when action is hot, but then with windows on a 2nd monitor this wouldnt be needed. I dislike having to "target" those teensee weensee buttons to minimize or close a window just so I can "target" those little lines to engage my drones. Give us some macro support. (shift-F1 = send in the drones)(shift-F2 swap all laser crystals at once) etc.
3) I'll settle for the dual monitor support.
Ive come to the point where hearing that there will be more variety in missions will be a great thing, however the reason I cancelled my account for 8 months last year was because I was sick of the screen clutter. Had I been able to utilize my 2nd monitor for local, maps, etc., I would have surely stayed to try out pvp and o.o systems.
I havent had to put this much imagination into a game since Zork...well, maybe something more recent than 30 years ago..

I am using 2 1680x1050 monitors to run my 2 pilots and it works acceptably (1 classic graphics and 1 premium graphics). However, I have to run them in 1600x900 resolution as that's the only option to keep the whole clients onscreen.
I would like the option to either a) dynamically resize the client window by dragging like other windows apps, or b) the ability to set a custom resolution so I'm not losing any screen real estate around the borders.
Anyone else have any thoughts along this line?

Edited by: AccesiViale on 29/12/2008 21:40:33 I really cared about this much more when i was only using one client and wished i could apportion all that ui stuff and map things to differnt moniters but now i just run one client per moniter as i have multiple accounts. Just run windowed and put the clients where you want them respectivly.
signed but i dont see it happening anytime soon. An option for ingame option for AA or AF would be higher on my list...but wont be getting that either anytime soon
EDIT: Dual moniter support would be easier for them if they changed to dx10 but im sure they have bigger things to do right now then overhaul the engine again The sky was blue but there was no god. |

I upgraded to Vista to be able to run 3D acceleration on second display.. BUT.. I find EvE has limitation of full screen mode
I just want functionality of:
Dual Monitors, NO SPAN, NO CLONE, independant desktops - EvE#1 run on Monitor 1, full screen - EvE#2 run on Monitor 2, full screen
Two seperate clients... Two seperate screens... full screen
At the moment if I full screen my eve client running on second monitor, it goes full screen on the first monitor :( So It is not possible to run two at once in full screen have to use windowed mode
Other functionality like people mention (such as one client on two screens with info windows on second display, or a full screen map like supreme commander) is probably a good idea to think about implementation as well... dual screens are becoming MUCH more popular now that they are VERY CHEAP and finally we have hardware acceleration on second screen thanks to Vista |

Signed for dual monitor support too.
1st for the flying, second for interface windiows. I use a pair of 20" wide and 19" monitors. I would really like to have flying on first one (with menu on left side) and move all windows to second monitor (maybe except overview). That chat window really annoys me, I have to resize it all the time - make little when flying (especially in combat) and make bigger to chat with my corp.

I would really like to see a dual screen support with the space/station view in screen 1 and marked, chat, assets etc. in screen 2.
This would really be helpful for the dual screen, single client players (like me). Of course a dual-screen, dual fullscreen client support would be appreciated by the dual client players here.
So once again i beg you dev team. pretty please, with sugar, cream and a huge fracking cherry on top... please respond to this thread.... Or just impliment it as a supprise update. If you do I will do something nice to someone... perhaps by not stripping the next time i get drunk...

Running multiple eve clients in maximized windowed mode on multiple monitors is already possible, stable, and even performs well. The trick is to use seperate client installs for each client that you plan to run concurrently. (IE: If running 2 accounts at once, two installs, even if using 6 accounts, total.)
When I was in XP, I ran my main in premium, and my alt in classic, but since QR released, I switched to Vista, and now can run both with premium graphics, and everything turned up, in just about anything but a 100v100 fleet brawl.
If running XP, look for a piece of software called Eve Launcher. Its absolutely wonderful, and I wish the author would update it to run in Vista. If running Vista, I suggest ShiftWindow, although there are other options.
However, back to the OP, I fully support the request for true dual-monitor support, IE: Having space open on one monitor, and data windows (wallet, market, overview, etc) open on the other, in one client.

SOLUTION: ---------
No matter what gfx card you have, download the program called powerstrip (google it).
Install, and add a new resolution that is the combined width of your monitor resolutions, or whatever resolution you want really.
Restart your PC and the new resolutions will be available to select in eve.
I have crossfired ATI 4950's and works great for me. Here is a screenshot
Hope this helps people, he only thing I wish for is being able to control where the centre of the client is, ie where the centre of gravity is of the ships.

No, I didn't read 9 pages before placing this.
Slave client, and slave window. For those who have multiple boxes, and the desire to do so, set it up so two Eve clients can "run" the same character. One can be left with all the HUD clutter removed, and the other can have all the HUD clutter visible, (and completely obliterating the view,) for a dashboard. For dual monitors, do the same thing. Set it so one view can be locked relative to another, (with overlap if desired, or even an entirely different angle.) For those with multiple machines and the desire to immerse more fully, one could set the first monitor on the best machine as a forward view, leaving only the guages visible, (modules hidden,) the second monitor could host low-latency tasks such as the chat windows, inventory, and the overview. The monitor on the second computer could then be used to lock in another angle of the same scene. Perhaps blown way out to watch for bogies, or left on the system map, while the main one is pretty much used as a near space view.
Perhaps this has been suggested before. Perhaps not.
And hey, for those who want to go full out and fill their old bean-bag chair with the jel from hundreds of wrist rests, this could allow them to finish their own plywood pod.

Please implement this. While I agree there are lots of kludge work-arounds, none solve the basic problem of wanting to concentrate all combat/mining/task at hand information on one screen with "everything else" on the other.

I saw, at fanfest, them running EVE over two screens, and bragging about FPS. This leads me to think it works.
The only thing I yearn for, in such a situation, is a customisable center-screen.
Allow me to explain.
You can move all your windows, and you can align your sidebar left or right (thus changing which screen it's on), you can move your neocom (if that's what it is, the little thing that tells you how much HP you have, Cap, modules, etc.) and align it top or bottom, and you can move targeting origin, (look for the little crosshair near the first target, mine was hidden under the overview, might help to click in space, then press Tab, anyway, find this crosshair and drag it about. You can align targets vertically, too.)
The only problem with that would be for me, I'd have my chat channels, inventory, market, overview, F11 map, etc., all open on my left screen, and look around space on my right screen, but my ship is split in half across two screens. I wanna choose where the ship appears, and therefore, a center-screen. I'd then place it on the center of the right screen.
The view of space would still persist on my left screen, though, so if I click in space and press Tab, I have an extended viewpoint, which I can think of no use for currently. _____ ^ That is a sig line. It should be there without me having to put one in.

It's been possible to run eve across multiple monitors since the very beginning of eve. We're not asking for that... we can already do it. What we want is control of it. I like the pretty pictures... I want to be able to have the picture all on one screen and then put all the buttons/chat/etc on a different screen.
For you guys that are simply talking about running EVE on 2 monitors though, we've been able to do it forever... the bummer is that since your ship is in the center of the screen, your ship basically get's divided by your monitor beveling which is just plain annoying.

Buy a third screen. The only function you're missing using TH2G and three screens is the ability to have your map open at the same time as your main client. For that, I'm force to use a laptop with client running or dotlan up - no big deal really.
I would love native support for multiple screens, but it IS possible without bothering CCP. -

It is amazing that CCP just seem to be happy enough to ignore this. I guess their main focus is to grow the client base, and they figure little boxes in stores and plenty of new noobs is the way to do it. well ...
Anyway, it can't be that hard to put a little bit of attention to this topic and at least engage into a DIALOG about it? Hello Devs! Anyone reading this?
Apart from supporting the idea of multi-monitor support for one client, I would like a simple feature that stores client window location in the settings. There should be no need for tools like EVE Launcher and EVE Mover (neigher of which work right for me (Vista 64). I use three screens, for three clients at the same time. Way better than using three PCs. But my screens are not the same sizes and each time I start a window I need to resize it and drag it to the correct screen. It can't be too hard for the devs to store these values in the settings, so at least I can launch each client on its own monitor.

This feature is long (LONG) overdue.
Your customers are screaming for proper dual monitor support, why are you not listening CCP?
Eve has so many windows and so much information that it simply CRIES for this feature.
Which feature you ask?
Fully positional windows and task bars which can be positioned in any place over the span of two monitors. |

I agree. I use 2 monitors myself and would find this invaluable.
Except.
Its not that simple. Multiple monitors are generally achieved in different ways, depending on your graphics cards, drivers, etc.
Providing support for this with 100% perfection on all possible multi-monitor setups is not easy. In fact, it is sodding complicated.
As I understand it, CCP did used to have some basic multi monitor support in EVE, but it was buggy, and caused more headaches than it solved. so it was taken out (it would take up a huge amount of GM support time to deal with the huge number of people trying the feature out, then whinging that it isn't 100% of what they expected... and this would still happen if CCP added it as a quiet, undocumented, unsupported 'beta' feature to be used at players own risk).

There's 10 pages of supporters in this thread alone,
yet I don't see a single response from a developer or anyone with any authority taking the time to reply to paying customers (unless I missed it).
Not particularly good customer support.

It woudl go a long way just to implement a way to shift the focus to the left 25% or right 25% point on the screen, instead of right at 50%. This would at least allow good use of horizontal span mode, without splitting the ship at the seam.
Also, DirectX handles multiple drawing surfaces very well, if the program is designed to use them. Performance might be degraded in XP, and depending on your drivers, but it would work well for the 'secondary display' requests (moving non-3D windows to the secondary display).

They have, and they are looking in to it. Not sure how much work it needs etc. It would require a very large revamp of the UI which means other matters get a lower priority if this where to become the FOTM.
A hint: read the CSM minutes. Will save you a lot of poasting ideas that already have been suggested, and you get an idea of what they are doing.

I have 2 Monitors, I don't Dual Screen Eve because its pointless.
However if the functionality were to change tot the OP's sugggestions I'd Bother using eve on Both Screens !
Whether its viable or not is not the communities business, We come up with the project, CCP Workout if they can implement it :)

Having the ability to drag windows offscreen would be nice.
But to be honest, right now, I would settle for being able to run EVE full-screen (1920x1200) on my 24" screen, and be able to keep my other screen up for other tasks.
Just removing EVE minimizing itself when it loses focus would be great.
Or is that already possible, and I jsut havent found it?
At the moment I'm running eve in windowed mode, which looks "icky", and given how pretty Eve is, i'd like to be able to enjoy it without having the window borders.

It would be VERY nice if we could resize the window to any dimensions we like. Right now I run dual monitor setup with eve on one and eft/eve-agents etc other info on the other, but I can only really use the 1600x900 resolution for windowed mode as using my native res for windowed causes some of the game screen to be off of the monitor, inaccessible.
That extra space I could get from manually increasing the resolution to fit snug against my task bar would be invaluable. As it stands I have to go to full screen for fleet ops because I just don't have enough room windowed.

You can actually use any resolution you want, by adding a custom resolution to your video card. The choices of resolution is derived from the video drivers via DirectX capability queries, so adding a custom resolution ends up adding it to eve. It doesn't even have to be a working resolution, just being in the list will work (though if it is working, you don't want to switch to fullscreen in that size).

Lol, this thread is still alive. !!!!SIGNED!!!!! again, like I already did 2007.03.31 09:37:00 on 2nd page. EVE haz too many (important) windows to be on one screen. When in fleet in drone ship, even my 24'' screen looks small with all those panels open: fleet, gang, aliance, corp, cargo, local, search, drones, overview, broadcast, gangmate watch...
CCP: GIVE!!! Obey! Or some other whiner will quit and EVE will die.

Originally by: Katana Seiko Well, all you Devs need to do is implement the possibility to shut off that stupid "feature" of the game to minimize itself when the game looses it's focus.
This.
No other game I have ever played minimizes itself when you click outside the game window when running in full-screen mode. For me this is *the* most important change of any kind. Champagne for all devs at CCP if they fix this bug.
How to reproduce this at CCP? Take any PC @ CCP with EVE and 2 screens. Run EVE. Set it to full screen mode. EVE now occupies one of the two screens. Move the mouse to anything on the other screen and click. Boom! Eve minimizes itself.
From a financial point of view, I would think that more people would get 2nd, 3rd, 4th accounts if this were fixed.
P.S. I work with stuff like this and it's almost certainly 2-3 lines of code in an event handler as Katana Seiko points out. If I had access to that piece of code I'd even volunteer to fix it myself for free.

EVE needs another display mode ... it's called windowed full-screen without borders ... that's the way WoW does it ...
in this mode you can have EVE on Monitor 1 and you can click on your 2nd monitor and play around in winamp/browser/play a movie use an OFF-Game-EVEMap-Client without the EVE-Client closing up ...
I play in windowed-mode but have to use a smaller resolution than my 1st monitor is set to because of the borders ... if the borders are displayed on the 2nd monitor I experience a massive drop in fps ... about 40%, which is simply unacceptable ...
multi-monitor support as mentioned before would also be awesome ... because I could stop using out-of-game EVEMaps (great job btw.) considering the direct connection to the game and it would considerably increase in game playing experience and fun-factor and ui-usefullness ...
so CCP ... it's your call now ... DO SOMETHING PLEASE !!! It's about time ...
PS (off-topic): and at least allow more keybindings ... for example: all buttons of the overview should be accessable by keys ...

This is still not the same as OP suggested: to have the 3d graphics / combat stuff on the 1st screen and the chat windows/market/other stuff on the 2nd. Furthermore, running a setup like this has nothing to do with eve client, its all about gfx drivers & your operating system.
Would be also awesome if you could run two clients on separate screen as full screen aswell. |

Another problem with using driver/Operating system would we that your ship can be split up.

Yes, absolutely! Microsoft Flight Simulator has had this capability for years and I would love to see it in EVE. It's really hard to overstate how much this could improve the game because players would have the option of putting all the information windows on a separate monitor.
To be perfectly honest, I'm actually a little surprised this hasn't made it into any of the expansions yet. |

It's always bugging me that I can't see most of the beautiful space CCP has given us - because it's all obscured by various windows.
Just flying around ratting in nullsec, I have the following open: Minimised Sidebar. Local Chat. Cargo Hold. Chat Stack (Corp/Alliance/Intel). Loot Window (When applicable). Command Bar. Selected Item. Overview. Drones.
Add to this fleet and broadcast windows, and the fact that many of these have minimum sizes, and 60% of my screen is taken up.

A bigger screen and better gfx-card, so you can play on a higher resolution
Oh well got the same problem as you. Especialy on my second clidnt that runs on a 19 inch screen, lesser so with my main clidnt on the 22 inch wide. So for me the suggested dual screen wouldn't help solve my problem. But giving us more posibilities to rearange the UI would help, like moving the ship move away from the central view of the screen. ---------------------------------- None of yet! |

GFX card is fine (9600GT), and while I am looking to upgrade to a 22 wide very soon, my current 19 wide (@ 1440x900px) should really be enough to fit what I need on. Like you say though, the entire problem could be solved with some UI tweaks. A UI scale slider would solve SO much by itself, as would the option to pick a font that's clearer at smaller sizes. Right now I have trouble spotting the difference between zero and eight, or five and six, without cliking the +A several times. |

With three monitors (and the projector as a forth) its really annoying when I click on something out of game and eve minimizes. I really with the game would let me get it on all three screens. maybe make it a skill to train. there has got to be a way to do it. and there is definitely enough people here (in this thread alone) to justify it. I run two clients on two different monitors. Those people complaining about the border in windowed mode should Google a program called eve mover. It removes the border and lets you use every spare pixel on the monitor for EVE. For those who have played wow it essentially recreates the 'maximized windowed mode'. It can be a little quirky at times but I would love CCP to implement something similar as a first step towards multiple monitor improvements. Especially since it is a quick modification that doesn't require a larger change like the requests to extend one client over two screens.

fantastic idea, it would be supremely nice to dedicate one monitor to a "sratch space" where you can either drag and drop overview, chat windows, cargo hold, or display maps, routes, etc.. without cluttering up the actual game display. with everything int he background going on, it's nice to see more than slivers between windows and a piece of a ship in the middle of the screen every once in a while....

I've recently added a 19", and while I can use both screen windowed for my dual accounts, it's just a shame that when I'm running one account I can't move the chat/people & places/other clutter out & away from the main action.. Two things I'd like to had :
First of all We can choose between multiple overview settings by clicking a tab. Why not associate this feature with different screen configs.
Example : I choose the PVP overview tab, my chat windows, local chan and cargos or whatever, switch to one screen, letting only my scanner and what I really need on the screen I have chosen as "primary".
Switching to another overview-tab-settings would move my windows to the places I have previously setup.
In other words, make the client remember my windows default positions. (single or multiple screens)
Second :
Maybe we missed something, and maybe what we are asking for is not technicaly possible (due to some reason in the 3D engine or whatever). But at least CCP, tell us why this silence.
If it's not possible at the moment, we are able to hear it and understand... with a little explaination.
To all of you following this thread : look at the top of the forum ! It's written "the world's LARGEST game univers" right ? That's already true in terms of game contents. Let's extend that one step further shall we ?

Just add an option to eiherway set it to not minimize when not in focus, or give me a black screen where I can drag all m stuff like chatwindows, Markets and stuff. Could even make it so I keep the mapbrowser upon the second window, might be pointless but could be useful...

GUI screenshot
Check out the screen shot. Yes its a titan kill... but I don't care about that. How does this guy move his ship control panel to the left of his GUI? I've split Eve across two monitors previously and it work fine, except that the ship control panel is right in the middle of the display so is split between the two monitors. Seems this bloke was able to move the ship control panel to the left somehow.
Any help appreciated.

I have a MAC, and a PC both that i play this on, and both are setup for 2 screens. Is this an option that can be enabled? or are you work on developing this?
because what i could see would be to have the main game on the one, and the other would be all these windows, like -market - journal - character sheet - ect. basically allowing us to drag it to the other screen. This would clear up our gameplay screen and make it more enjoyable.
let me know. Thanks.

- also i see that you are semi close on the MAC because when i take the screen shots i get 2 pics, one of the game, and the other a BLANK black screenshot - and that is what shows on the secondary screen. lol
thanks again and hope to one day get this dual screen useable.

Three screens here.
I find running synergy from source forge, across three systems, with eve running windowed at screen res works well for multiple accounts, but I'd rather have multiple monitor options that allowed me to relocate the market, chat, maps, scanning...all off to a second utility monitor. After all, EVE is pretty, I like to watch.

I just started playing this game. And with all that information that you get and need to have control of in this game, it is quite weird that dual og tripple monitoring isn't supported. And i don't understand that CCP haven't heard on you guys on this and made this a "must do" on their next patch or something like that.

I've been wanting to offload chat, market and especially the map to a 2nd or 3rd screen forever now. While not difficult to flip between the map and normal screens it would be a lot easier to plan and execute flight plans on the fly for a roaming gang if I could have it up on a 2nd screen constantly.
The end is extremely f'ing nigh. |

/signed AND solved
SOLUTION
I've managed to shift the viewpoint on two other DX9 games to test a theory, just took a quick look at EVE using a dependency checker and she's DX9 so there the same technique applies. I can write a small loader which essentially centres the worldview on ONE monitor.
METHOD
Use IAT (Import Address Table) patching to trampoline several DX calls, in particular the calls to set up the viewing frustrum. In trampoline, ignore any cameras being used for prerendering to texture (by profiling the render loop by it's rendering params) and then recalculate the frustrum to shift it to the left or right to centre it in a nominated side of a dual-monitor setup.
Some artifacts are expected. Depending on how CCP do their culling, some objects (but NOT the skybox) might cease to exist somewhere past the midpoint of the 'peripheral' monitor... not a biggie since all your windows will prolly end up filling this monitor anyway.
Not being a DX expert, I'd need to check :
1. Whether the lookat vector was a unit vector as in my current tests or just the coordinates of the ship... this is important to keep the ship centred in the primary monitor, but not essential as there is a workaround.
2. I assume that the UI is drawn in screen coordinates (ie, transformed) ... this is just common sense, bt it is an important assumption because we don't want them moving when we shift the viewing frustrum.
3. If the lookat vector of the viewing frustrum is a unit vector, then the new lookat vector for the modified frustrum is harder to calculate... however, I have a cunning plan for establishing a reliable lookat vector for the transformed frustrum where the distance to the object of focus along the lookat vector is unknown.
SUMMARY
So guys, if the folks at CCP don't mind me trapping a few DX9 calls I can get you people what you want.
Moving the ship controls is less important... but it is actually a much simpler proposition since they are identifiable by their rigid geometry, their screenspace nature, and the ease at which we can transform such geometry on the fly.
DISCLAIMER (For CCP peeps)
This is all ***theoretical*** but with very strong indicators of success. I have NOT tweaked EVE yet as a matter of courtesy only... I will ***NOT*** tweak EVE unless a DEV okays it first. So, please be assured I'm NOT tampering with your proprietary code or your game protocol stream nor have I attempted to debug it beyond mere dependency checking whilst the client was NOT running.
The code I would write is standalone and would NOT modify ANY of the client code, nor would it modify the DirectX installation... it will merely act as middleware... it's only changes being restricted to the IAT, although if the IAT is to be untouched also then I can reorganise it as a DXWrapper which is completely non-invasive.
However, if you insist that I stop and abandon the idea completely then I will. However, It would be nice if such an instructon should be balanced with a statement on when the feature will be implemented by your own team.
k, last hurdle... get CCP to actually READ THIS THREAD.

I know this topic has been discussed to the point of overkill but I feel that it is that important to have dual monitor support. As I find myself getting deeper and deeper into the EVE universe I find an inherant need to have dual monitor support. With multiple interactions going on it would be nice to have all my chat and information windows on one screen while continueing to fly / fight on a second window. In todays day and age I don't believe were asking too much when we ask for dual monitor support. Please make this happen so we can all continue to grow and enjoy EVE as it was meant to be enjoyed.

I think, using a couple of monitors is even standard today like a dual core cpu, 2 gigs of ram and a high speed internet connection. CCP should note this - it is absolutely no geek wish!
Got three screens running and would love to use at least two of them in eve.

It isn't. 14.4% of steam users (gamers!) use dual monitors. Reason for this is very simple, most games simply do not work right on 2 monitors. The action/croshair/cameracentre gets centered right on the bezels of the displays. For multimonitoring to work out of the box you need a minimum of 3. This involves a 2nd videocard or matrox triplehead and it quickly becomes cheaper to buy a 30+ inch monitor to get an equivalent stake of real estate.

But let me explain my opinion in other words: Two thirds of the people I know do have at least a dual monitor set - as often claimed by others within this "proposal"-thread, too. Of course, they do not have it out of gaming purposes, they re working with it - as I do. And of course, they re gaming sometimes. Probably you should try a dual- oder triple-monitor configuration and you ll never miss it - even when you had just only one lone 30'' screen before.
However, most people here didnt say that they need more space panorama. The majority wants a second screen enabled, where they can put chat boxes, market information and star maps.
If you still dont believe what eve players want here a small sum up from the first 20 posts:
Originally by: Hell's Fury Eve dual monitor setups would be sweet. I'd love to be able to put functionality on one monitor and fly on the other. I have a 42inch monitor with 1360x768 that would be perfect for flying while I had all my widgets and module interface on my 22 inch 1680x1050 screen.

Originally by: small chimp Yes i really want dual monitor support! I want all market windows and chat windows to the another window! and things like that! it would hugely benefit this game and i would like to pay even much more for dual monitor client!

Market, ship info, scanner, would be so very sweet on my second monitor
Originally by: Xiza Larynx I totally agree & this would be a fantastic addition, beeing able to have map, chat or whatever windows you see deemed in another monitor.
Originally by: Elenit I've been considering getting another monitor but have been waiting to see if CCP implements proper support for it.
And this goes on for about almost 400 posts now - nothing controversal, just one clear statement.
So, whats your problem with our wishes - or did you just want to tell about steam statistics?
ps: got a 32'' hd-display, too. Im running a quad-monitor config, to be honest. The 32'' works good as a movie screen, but I really dont want to have it on my working desk.

Survey is done every month, august 2009. Up to date enough for you? But ehm, why do I have to prove my 14% while you're allowed to pull "it's standard" out of your ass? I suggest you also read the whole 14 pages again and find my posts popping up here and there.
Originally by: Bojo Prinz But let me explain my opinion in other words: Two thirds of the people I know do have at least a dual monitor set - as often claimed by others within this "proposal"-thread, too.
For everyone of you, there's someone like me, someone who knows no-one using dual monitor. Not counting the workplace. You're confusing that "everyone you know" actually matters when it comes to 300k EVE accounts worldwide. Example: Almost everyone I know lives in the Netherlands. But that does not mean that there are 6 billion people there.
Originally by: Bojo Prinz Probably you should try a dual- oder triple-monitor configuration and you ll never miss it - even when you had just only one lone 30'' screen before.
I've had dual. I've gone to the bigscreen instead of triple. Haven't regretted it for a minute. Especially since vista/win7 canned the horizontal/vertical span modes.
Originally by: Bojo Prinz So, whats your problem with our wishes - or did you just want to tell about steam statistics?
None what so ever. My problem is with you claiming it's standard. I'd love to see CCP implementing this, would actually get me to use a 2nd monitor again. But the reality is that this is a project that would effect about ~42k EVE players. Potentially a lot less if multi-account users don't use the functionality in favor of a second account on the second display. It's a matter of CCP investing resources where they can get the best return.

The thing is, this could be solved with two very simple changes. First, allow for custom sizing of windowed mode. Second, allow players to lock their camera off-centre.

I would love for you to explain your 14% number. The way I read that report, the most popular dual monitor resolution is 2960 x 1050 with 14%. If you expand the details, all of the dual monitor resolutions add up to 100%. That's 14% of gamers with dual monitors run at 2960 x 1050 - there is no indication on that page as to what percentage of gamers have multiple monitors.

Still a couple of disadvantages left. Imagine the span modes combined with multiple monitors. A quarter of a 30'' inch screen isnt the same as a single 19'' display ... but yes...who cares...

No. You didnt get the difference between stating facts and stating opinions and subjective points of view. Oh, and you did not realize the efforts to state or interpret a fact, too. Sorry.
Finally...why are you putting counterarguments on the table? If there's no disadvantage for you...then its not your job - it s only CCP's job to tell us which reasons prevent them from picking up this reasonable request for more than 2 years now.

Edited by: LymeM on 22/10/2009 06:58:53 Ok, I didn't read the whole thread, or most of it.
Suggestions for multi-monitor support. 1) Being able to run the eve client windowed on a monitor without window borders/controls. In order to best do this, adding the functionality to have the client snap to screen edges, and set which monitor your running on would be required. This enables moving between the eve client window and other applications easily, rather than through using alt-tab. This functionality is similar to what eve-mon offers.
2) Being able to move/relocate (detach) in game windows (chat windows, fitting screen, map, production screens, etc) out of the eve client screen space on to the general desktop space. The paint.net photo editing software (free download) offers this functionality, simply drag the toolbar out of the paint.net window. In order to best implement this, it would be advantageous if these detached windows were either tied to the eve client such that when the client had focus they were all brought to the top (so they are not hidden below other windows), and/or the option to set them to float above other windows, and/or being listed individually in a task bar like list so that they can be found and brought to the top. (Visual Studio 2010 lets you do much of this).

I was watching the Dominion trailer on a 47" LCD monitor connected to my laptop, and i was like: WOW this s*** is the best!!
It made me want an option to extend the eve client so that the spaceships are on the monitor, and the UI on my laptop screen.
CCP, please implement this now and i will buy you a beer! _________________ rawr |

This really is not the problem. Spanning over an uneven (3,5,7 etc...) number of screens is no problem and can be done since a long time in XP. Can't help it that Vista and Windows 7 messed this up and require more effort, but atleast do it for XP users now. The problem is with an even (2,4,6 etc...) number of screens. The ship is split in half at the bezel so it is unusable by any sane person. The only thing that is needed is the ability to move the centerview of the ship left or right. This doesn't seem like a technical problem because we already have great camera freedom in game and looks more like lazyness on the developers part.
As it appears dual-screen is a censored word in the CCP office. I'm apalled that there still is no official word raised on this usability issue since it was first brought up and also has been discussed in a CSM meeting. Actually I believe after so much time (years) and ignorance from the developers, usable dual-screen and Eve-client will never go in one sentence in the forsee-able future.

I second this idea. Dual monitor feature, wich would allow you two have scanner, tactical overlay etc on second monitor would be awesome.
Probably most needed feature for Eve right now. More so than station walking.

I'd love to see this feature.
the gui would need a total re design for this to work but could you make itso that the windows inside eve are undockable like in photoshop and dreamweaver etc.
So if you wanna lay the game in full screen the windows dock into the main window, but in windowed mode you can drag them out onto the desktop.
i think that would be the best thing ever!!!! and I'd give you beer if you did that

OK, my friend just got a Radeon 5890 and setup a triple-screen Eyefinity display that works beautifully in EVE.
However, I too would love to see multi-mon support directly in EVE without requiring something like Eyefinity. With a window-heavy interface such as EVE uses, being able to utilize a second (or third) screen to hold interface windows would be a boon to us multi-mon gamers, which are growing in numbers from what I hear.
Back 4 years ago, I was able to hack multi-mon support like this out of WoW using add-ons. Should be doable with EVE.

Edited by: Sollunux on 05/01/2010 06:13:42 I feel it's important to note that the TrippleHead2Go is NOT a full solution. That hardware has limitations in resolution and head types (last I checked 3 monitors at 1280 x 1024 and VGA connectors only). Sure this will go up, but then you have to buy another piece of hardware for the upgrade, not to mention the initial investment in the first place, it becomes a hand-off, not support.
I posted on this way back and have asked several times about how to do so, if it's possible. I've even hacked at the config files for several days trying to force the resolution. It wasn't fun and it didn't work.
I was able to trick EvE into a 2 monitor resolution using NVidias control panel for my GeForce cards and then to maintain that resolution in a window where I then stuck EvE in the middle of 3 monitors, but this simply solved the problem of the bar in the middle splitting my ship in half >_< and was quite finicky because of how i did some other stuff. If you're willing to leave "dual-span view" on and have a GeForce card, look into it and you should be able to get eve across both screens. You will also be greeted by a very uncomfortable bar splitting your ship in half.
I'd also be surprised if ATI didn't have something similar, but I'm unfamilar with it.

In my opinion, this is a good addition, but can be correctly implemented in a single manner: - requisite is that video resolution becomes the SUM of the two videos, and today ati and nvidia to this by the drivers - since in such implementation the ship is in the middle of the video area, it would get divided in two, so it should be offset, given that it's common to use the center of the video as a reference to aim or perform other actions.
So simply put, the 3d area should become a "window" by itself, only with the fact that it'd be "LAYER 0". You would then be free to reposition it and resize it to your hearts content. This would by the way allow to increase performance in those systems that can't handle the graphics, where you could simply give more space to the other windows (that would be at that point entirely opaque, saving more cpu cycles).

Very long thread. Read some the first posts and the last page. Got 3 monitors here (2x 22" and 1x 27"). Took some time to get some information about basicly working of multi-monitoring and different basic things and i think it's not this easy to tell programs to work on different screens simultanious. Another problem is (but that's nothing ccp can change because of basical graphik things) that the FPS will drop very deep when u change from fullscreen to window mode. But window mode is necessary if u don't want that your client always get minimized when u switch to another client/tab.
But now my improvement: Using 3 clients most time simultanious, each on one screen. With Evemon Foundations there came an feature to relocate different clients on different screens. Maybe u will think about implementing something that u can set an option in the graphic-settings where a client automaticly starts. And if it starts as window mode and the window size is equal to the size u set for the screen, the client starts automaticly located that it looks like fullscreen.

o/ First post on the forums. I just want to thank the devs for an awesome game. Players, I feel your pain. I have found a temporary solution, at least for me. Unfortunately, it is not free... #1: You need two PAID eve accounts. Trials will not work. #2: No matter what your resolution is on the 2nd monitor (I have a 1440x900 on the main and 1024x758 on the slave) you WILL be able to run a main EVE client + a MAP (at least) on the 2nd. I have not tested single account UI parameters. #3. Download and use EVEMON. You all know what it is. Download it, use it. If not, evemon.battleclinic.com #4. In EVEMON, you want to click on 'RELOCATOR' on the menubar. Selecting each monitor and choosing the default option "Monitor 1", "Monitor 2" will make the WINDOWED (assuming you have selected windowed mode in graphics settings in each EVE client) semi-fullscreen (you will not be able to tell the difference) so that you will have TWO 'full-screened' seperate accounts on the same computer with two different monitors (if you understand all this so far you're golden) sooooooo on account #2 (let's say a pirate alt) you'll have the full screen map going and on account #1 (your main) you'll have the regular EVE window + UI. Unfortunately this (as far as I know) does not let you share Info tabs, Market windows, etc, on the SAME account between two monitors. Only something irrevelant such as the map. But for the $15 a month extra, this makes it worthwhile for dedicated single pilot players...... It's the best I could do....CCP....give us dual monitor support!! ((sorry if this has already been discovered and posted (i'm afraid it has) Thanks o7

Originally by: Katana Seiko Well, all you Devs need to do is implement the possibility to shut off that stupid "feature" of the game to minimize itself when the game looses it's focus.
Is this accurate? Is the EVE client responsible for the minimization? If so, please change this ASAP so we don't have to run in windowed mode and sacrifice our frame rates. ------------------ Neo Corricon CEO, RennTech

Its Simple, make window scaleable, in the options allow for a variable that allows the location of the ship x degrees left or right. Have a default button to avoid any pesky trouble shooting options that could easily and quickly be addressed by players corp members or the ISD. Ive had the chance to play a game though a scaleable window, the immersion is just incredible.
Thanks.

yes this please.
Although probably requiring a fairly large client change - making the main view port dock-able within the client's window would probably be a good option as it then covers some of the more outlandish monitor set-ups that people might have (although you'd need a way to specify what viewing angle the window is meant to encapsulate - this could actually be very interesting as you could end up with a wrap around display - caves anyone?).

2-3 Monitors already work, the only problem I have is that the camera view is zoomed in a bit. Other than that it works just fine. Running@6090x1080

Not really. With Win 7 and GTX 460 card this doesn't work any more. I used two monitors with an older GS 7600 and that was fine, now with the new system it is no more possible to change the resolution up to 3860 x 1060 as the computer handels the two monitors with they own native resolution. Using other programs in a window is not a problem as i can stretch the window over the two monitors, but not with the EVE window. Also palying with two chars on two different windows does not work very well as the second window will "jump" all time back to the monitor 1.

it's laughable really that in this day and age Eve cannot properly support multiple monitors, but then it's CCP what do you expect. _____________________________________________ fsuicgks (this is not gibberish, it is deeply profound

With CCP being so interested in having ppl getting a second account, it's odd that they have not yet put in support for having 2 accounts being able to log in, through the same client and be shown on different monitors. Even for ppl with only one account it would be extremely useful - scanner, market, log, starmap and a bunch of other stuff could be displayed on the secondary monitor instead of cluttering up the view on the main one. I'm surprised that the CCP devs who make the universe pretty (the graphics guys) haven't already demanded this to their bosses. What's the use of having nice and up-to-date ship-models, if you can't see them due to windows blocking your view?
Start out with a client wrapper, that allows multiple clients inside of it - that would sastisfy most ppl looking for having a main and an alt on screen at the same time. Could even be useful for ppl with only one monitor as well as you wouldn't have to force the OS switch threads and un-/-load memory. The other stuff might take a bit more work - have no ideas there.

Im using Win 7 and dual GTX 480s, and in the nvidia control panel I had an option to setup custom resolutions. In doing so EVE recognized the custom resolutions and gave me the option to select those resolutions. If anything it has to do with your card, not sure but I had no problems stretching my game across 3 screens.

Do that, and work from there.
I totally agree. A feature that would make eve much more enjoyable for me. ---------- Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room. |

Ok, I read the first 8 pages, forgive me if this is already mentioned. I always run eve on 2 30" monitors (5120x1600) under XP. I think it works quite well.
I move the ship HUD from center to the right screen, simply grab and drag it, it even remembers the new position.
One little suggestion: Vertically align the ship and the message display with the position of the HUD.

This should be a feature native to the game, not something we jury rig ourselves. I don't run XP. I run vista, and eventually the new Windows OS. sooo...

Edited by: Morbidibrom on 09/09/2010 09:23:19 Wow after 3 1/2 years no dev reply.... I can not belive they would omit this issue since thier target audience are hard core gammers and after going thru all the effort and expense of getting new members they would not want to retain them.... It's now 2010, common dev's this is old news and it used to be supported. You have to admit, given the amount of screen space this game takes up due to all the boxes that need to be open to play, multiple monitor support is required for comfortable game play. If its a matter of economics imagine the retention of an extra 10-15% of members youd have by making the game enjoyable instead of a convoluted mess we all have to deal with. And belive me we deal with it, we dont like it. Each and every member who wrote into this topic represents hundreds who are thinking the same thing, and hundreds if not thousands who left because of how convoluted this game can be.
If you want my opinion, I belive it is left like this because there is a hidden agenda eve does not disclose, like a pay off to some high end ceo that they don't support multiple monitors so that Matrox makes money on their TripleHead2Go. Or other agreements to keep it like it is to drive up computing sales. This is one of the largest games on the web. Lame CCP... shame...

Monitoring 3-5 chat channels, fleet, targets, drones, etc is painful. Why detract from the beautiful EVE graphics engine by forcing us to clutter our monitors.
-Listen to the EVE populace; we've been asking since 2007. |

Ability to have the map up on your second or third monitor would be awesome! This would be really good for both travel and probing

Ok, I'll not tease!
It's nothing huge, and don't expect anything ground-shattering, but it is a step forward!
Maps won't be on the other monitor, and it's not on a scale as Supreme Commander did. It's simple, but it is helpful.

Whould be so nice if I could put all the chatwindows/overview/dronemenu on a second monitor. Shows of the game way better to. A lot of people/friend that I show EVE to, bounce back when they see my monitor. Full of windows and little 'freaky' things you have to pay attention to. second monitor cleans up the main monitor, and therefore make the game more accessible.

All of your request could be solved if DEV would just allow windows to be dragged off the main screen, like Adobe Photoshop.
