w00t - alt tabbed many times with no lockup, alt-esc'd couple of times too (two clients currently running in the background since my last post..) .. could this be what we have been dreaming of for the past week? Longer test in the morning with some real pressure on the clients .. Why oh why don't CCP follow standard outage procedures and notify specific fixes so ppl can test? That's what we do in other IT support... sigh |

Still happening. Context: browsing outside while waiting for one client to redock. Think it happened as the char docked: massive write to pagefile then client no longer accessible. Still showing as OK in task manager, but unable to switch to it. Over a week now... |

If you read the last few pages of this thread you'll see that several issues have been fixed on the development build or via server hotfixes: including missing display resolutions, random node deaths, missing jump drive effects and the cargo button problem. CCP Explorer also stated that the fps/alt-tab issues are being looked at now.
They're obviously not fixed on the live server because we haven't had a patch yet, but at least we have confirmation a fix it coming.

{Re. Post from Caldari Citizen} Thanks CC - seen the CCP post on p23 again now - actually saw them at the time but was too incensed at the admission that this forum had not been read til Sunday to take the content on board properly. Well let's hope they get to the bottom of this soon or I'm gonna have to think of dumping an account. |

LOOK!!! Its real simple! I have been very patient while I waited for CCP to fix this mess they have created. Now it has came to the point that I WILL NOT pay for another month of game play if I cant play! One other thing you better think about CCP. You do have competition coming down the road. Does the name Jump Portal mean anything to you? They are in beta testing now and will be releasing hopefully soon. I came, I saw, I cloaked!!! |

This patch has caused me lots of problems:
1) Terrible FPS on main computer and laptop (workaround is to play using overview only with the star map open) 2) Alt-tab is crashing clients (workaround, set cache to 0, seems to prevent this) 3) Moon icons cannot be made visible on the screen (Alt-Z would be fine instead of Alt but it doesn't make moons visible) 4) Overview/Selected Item can get pushed off screen by fleet invites, needs constant rearrangement. 5) Lots of other annoying bugs I've bug reported personally still unfixed. One that clobbers me all the time is the contracts item selection box not behaving nicely with other open windows. Kill mails still aren't recording GSCs properly (I got this added as as a known bug a few months ago, are accurate kill mails not quite an important issue? Every time multiple containers are blown up they don't appear on the kill mail).
When you see announcements about the most trivial of issues but no proper mention of game breaking issues and serious long term bugs then it gets pretty frustrating.
Proper acknowledgement of issue 1 and 2 is required at this point, almost one week after halving many of your players FPS. You guys could have flown one of your customers computers in for testing by now if you cant reproduce this problem internally.

I canceled my account until the FPS issue is resolved, seems like a logical choice since I'm unable to play it after the patch.
No hard feelings though, once it's resolved I'll be ready to jump right back in.

There are so many people having serious issues with the game, I'm really wondering what went wrong with this patch.
Some of these issues are making the game more or less unplayable and aren't just minor bugs. The FPS issue, the bugged overview elements, the ice refining bugs that could be a serious problem for POS owners, etc. pp.
Seeing things like the "Wingman" offer seems like a bad joke from the marketing department in light of these issues. And I don't even want to think about what's going to get introduced to the game in terms of bugs and beta-stage game elements when CCP is going to implement real major changes like the ambulation project in the future...
I'm just a bit tired of the habit to introduce new content while parts of the old content are still buggy. I'm losing interest, maybe the competition has better QA to offer... Jumpgate Evolution anyone?

Edited by: Mulciber Toonces on 20/03/2008 03:08:19 Edited by: Mulciber Toonces on 20/03/2008 03:06:51 I am going out on a limb here, but I believe this is comparable to how recalls work. If you haven't see Fight Club do so now. . . now you know what I am talking about. If Y equals the income from people not experiencing problems, and X equals the cost to correct the problem then if X<Y nothing is done to correct the problem (something to that effect). CCP is calculating how much it would cost to correct the problem for a select few, if it is enough to hurt them then they will (try to) correct the problem, if they can make do with the lucky player's who are not experiencing problems incomes then they will give us the big up yours. Sorry about the jumbled mess but I think everyone catches my drift, if not just call me a poo fingered hoser.

Could we get an update on the FPS issue? Are you going to be able to fix it? If yes, what is the expected date?If no, please post the new minimum requirements for Eve.

Edited by: Rethie on 20/03/2008 12:22:31 OK, so now after this re install of C++ and crash, while in down time, I intstalled MS windows updates, .NET framework and Root certificates, Peer Name Resolution Protocol.
Logging back in after DT my frame rate in station has settled at 100 adv. Flight it is 70 now (up from 15-20) and in Roid belt with about 300 cans, 52.
Did the devs fix something or have I stumbled on fix?
Before was 15-20fps on classic Sorry forgot to mention this is now with premium graphics on Dither off, cache low, Shadow normal, Hdr off,

I had same issue though I managed to find that in the patch they kind of backed up the current settings to a degree.
I found they created a "cache_backup0" in the program folder such as
D:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\cache_backup0
which had a Browser folder containing the txt files which contain these Book marks. Copying them to the current
Program Files\CCP\EVE\cache\Browser
folder and you should be all set. Yay for undocumented backups
On other topics .... moving windows after every undock is REALLY wearing thin and feeling like your flying through molases does not encourage continued play. So how long do we have to endure all these new bugs ... and in some cases (such as online ppl in addy book being shown as Offline in chat windows!!) old bugs that were once fixed tho seem to have resurfaced ... * starts wondering about revision control proceedures or lack there of ?! *

(I've previous posts on page 4 and 11)
A tale of Two Clients
Our story thus far: The intrepid EVE player has major performance issues on his WinXP media center box and has lost his settings files again. He fights back by finding and restoring his settings files and dropping both clients back to classic graphics mode (with cache set to Large). The game is uglier but almost playable -almost.
And thus begins our Clash of the Clients. Below is the wide and varied list in which the classic clients seem to attack one another once both are started.
Client 1 starts fine and runs for awhile. On startup of Client #2 it fails with a Windows Error. (Before the 1.1 patch this would still happen when running to premium clients, but every time the Task Manager would show the first client had already oonsumed 500 Mb of memory. This shouldn't be a problem though since the machine has been upgraded to 2Gb. In the past relogging both clients solved the problem.
Client 1 starts fine, Client 2 tries to start up but can't get to the login screen because it seems to immediately start fighting with the first client over something -perhaps a file or the screen focus despite both being in windowed mode. You can tell this is happening because both clients lockup and the task bar shows both EVE icons flickering madly back and forth. Only recourse is to wait it out. Eventually, the login screen will come up on the 2nd client, the fight stops, and then you finally have the option of shutting down one or both clients.
Client 1 starts fine, Client 2 logs in with ship already in space, but the background is pure white and frame rate drops to 1 to 2 fps. Solution is to relog both clients.
Client 1 is up and running fine. Client 2 is up and running fine. Suddenly one of the clients starts having problems loading things or getting the server to respond and eventually disconnects. Review of the task manager shows one or both clients over 500Mb mem. WinXP must have some kind of per process memory limit of 500 Mb perhaps? This seems to be a reoccuring theme.
Client 2 starts up fine. Client one starts up but login screen isn't visible. Alt-tabbing shows a "zooming" effect indicating the task is returning from minimized mode which shouldn't be happening with both in windowed mode. Belatedly I realize the last d/c aka crash might have gotten one of the clients into full screen mode. Solution: Delete the pc.dat settings file for client #1. Now client starts fine.
Client 1 starts up fine. Client 2 starts fine and my ship starts in space and warps to the POS. But attempting to interact with my labs or silos is impossible. Client 2 soon thereafter d/c. Relog client 2 and again it immediately disconnects. Purging the caches and pc.dat files on both clients seems to fix the problem.
Conclusions I've never seen EVE act up this badly. This game has always been rock stable for me while running two clients as long as I stayed in windows mode. Except for the first reported scenario, all the others started with patch 1.1 and my fall back to classic mode. Because of all the problems listed above, it is now very problematic to get both clients running at the same time. I've even tried adding the command line args "/end /LUA:OFF" back to my shortcuts w/ my setting files copied to the new locations and this hasn't seemed to help. Now even when I log in the 2 clients one right after the other, the 2nd client will likely throw a Windows error and refuse to show the login screen.
My first account has been cancelled although there's still a week left before it expires. I do hope CCP makes some effort to fix this mess before the week is out or I will probably cancel my 2nd account as well.

I seem to be one of the luckier ones with the patch. The performance has improved on my client, I had neither IGB's nor any major window or overview settings, so I wasn't really affected by them getting deleted. And the most important thing, the windows for modifying and placing orders now take almost no time to load. Before the patch it was about 10 sec for the windows to become available, now it happens almost instantly. Anyone else seen such an improvement? Or could this be due to the clearing of the cache, which I have never done before, but the patching process probalby did?
I feel sympathetic towards the people having all those major issues, I'm just happy I don't. Doesn't mean I won't have any in the next patch though.
