if this only counts for gtc wise expiration i'll just reduce my 3 accounts to 2. if it means that you have to be logged on to train i'll reduce them to zero.
i can't restart the client right after DT like others which is an imbalance for european based players and training already takes too long with my maxed learnings and +5s. i will not accept if you have to be logged on for training.
cheers

It's impossible to say this is a good idea without being a fat, lifeless, CCP fellating jackoff.
This is a bad thing for a big chunk of your fellow players and every player should be ambivalent at the very least towards it.

I've currently got ten accounts. I pay for those accounts via GTCs.
I occasionally miss out on paying for these accounts, as I don't use all my accounts every day. For instance, I may decide not to log on my dread accounts for a week, because we're not conducting any operations that requires dreads. The same thing goes for my other accounts. In the past, this has not affected me in a negative way, and I'm not tied up to subscriptions, which means that I can decide when to pay. I use this method for many other things as well, prefering to pre pay when possible rather than tying myself up to a subscription.
This means that I can, at any time, decide to simply not renew my accounts, rather than have to remember to cancel all my subscriptions, for all the games I play. This can be quite useful should I ever run into financial trouble, and it's a good way for me to motivate my number of accounts to my husband.
Now, for at least the past year or so, I've constantly kept my accounts paid, with a week or so at the most passing between account expiration and me renewing the account. As I like to plan my skill training in advance, I find it good to know that On Date X, my New Dread Alt will have finished Gallente Battleship 5 and is therefore able to start training for a Moros. Or, for that matter, knowing that since T2 Dreads will be released on Date Y, my builder alt will have Capital Ships Construction 5 trained by then.
Removing "Ghost Training" will screw this up. I will no longer be able to pay for the game via GTCs and be able to accurately predict my skill training. Logging onto my New Dread Alt, and finding out that I still have two weeks to go on a skill I thought would've been finished might be bothersoem enough, but logging on to my builder alt and realising that the skill I was training in preparation for the new patch got delayed because the account expired two days earlier might cost me billions in lost revenue.
As other players have stated, this will make playing multiple accounts a lot more of a hassle, which may end up in me closing one or more of said accounts. This will end up in a less fun game experience for me, and less income for CCP.

Interesting point of view, so let's take a real-world example. I take a long train journey of 500 miles. I buy a ticket which would cover me for a journey to the town about 50 miles from the start, and another for the journey from the town about 50 miles from my destination. I therefore have no ticket for the 400 miles in the middle.
According to the 'supporters' of ghost training then because I've paid for the start and end then when the ticket inspector comes along mid-journey and asks for my ticket I would be fine saying I don't have one! Get real!
You pay for what you get. You don't pay you shouldn't get.

Great job CCP. You just removed the biggest incentive for players to return to the game. Next time RL comes up and I am unable to play for a month or two, why should I come back? Epic Fail
Time and Energy? You right click and train. Some effort there. I'm guessing 90%+ of all BS 5s were trained this way. Real smooth.

I have to say this saddens me to see people accept a change like this, so easily it may no effect you but there are other game benefits that do and when they stop them to make money off you then you will complain.
I have used this benefit before, I tend to play over winter and spend a month or two over summer making sure that I dont fall behind for my return to EVE. A genuine and honest reason. I gain nothing over any one else by doing it. Using this as an excuse is a lie and CCP should appologies for showing such contempt for the intelligence of its players.
I understand this way you think you will make more money. However now in my EVE lows CCP will get nothing from me. Seems ill thought out, but that also seems to fit a pattern.

OMG!!! WTF IS THAT SMELL?!?.... YES Ladies and Gentlement... its bullshit!
Hot Topic indeed Mr Fallout, id say you dont let eve players know your identification as you may be subject to physical violence. The whole idea behind this addition is purely cash based, the Ghost training as we know it isnt exactly ideal but it allows people to keep more than one account without having to feel a heavy amount of financial stress. Sure some people would class it as cheating and mooching, but i cant see it that way. Eve is an experience that allows you to be as active as you like, the casual player can enjoy the same skilling as the hardcore ones and having a break from a game is sometimes whats needed to get someone interested again, especially when you can come back to a healthy high tech skill. CCP should be spending time trying to find new and interesting ways to improves and add to a very interesting and unique game. Why it is that the company feels it should have to destroy a fine example of generousity and appeal to improve its bank balance? Why dont you start by allowing more methods of payment? I.E Debit Cards instead of Credit cards only? CCP arnt exactly cheap when it comes to subscriptions and the service they provide is definately second rate compared to other MMO's. Systems cant withstand populations over 100 without it going into cardiac arrest and the constant downtime? EVERY DAY? on !!!ONE SERVER!!! hardly WoW with their 250 servers or however many they have, things are just getting silly if you ask me. All these people who are saying "Dont Pay Dont Play". Just because you have a rich mommy and Daddy who pay for everything or some fancy job where you do jack shit and earn a monster salery, dont critisize the average man. This is a bonus everyone can use and shouldnt be removed.

You are just upset beause this will cut into your player base (Goon Alliance) more than the others.
I'm happy with the change and hope that CCP will put in something for the real players aka the paying base.

Originally by: Noghri ViR well here goes 2 of my alt accounts. I'll just transfer the characters that have decent skills on over to my 2 regular accounts and probably never touch the old accounts again.
Did CCP ever think about the math on this?
Let's take a look using myself as an example over a course of 6 months:
Account #1 - (I use this all the time) $34.99 * 6 months of activation = $104.97 Account #2 - (Same as #1, this is my production account) $34.99 * 6 months of activiation = $104.97 Account #3 - (I use this one to haul stuff around for my production alt and for training. I don't keep this account active all the time, but I'm resubscribing every few weesk after it lapses) $34.99 * 4 months of activation = $69.98 Account #4 - (Training account. I use this account to train up long boring skills that take a month or 3 to finish) $34.99 * 2 months of activation = $34.99
That equals a grand total of $314.91.
Now under the new system where I can't train anything after my accounts lapse, I'd probably transfer any worthwhile characters over to accounts #1 and #2 and let #3 and #4 lapse and never touch them again.
Under this new system, ccp gets a total of $209.94. A loss of $104.97 per 6 month period.
So really CCP, who was it that decided this was a good idea and what were they smoking? Could you let me know what business school they went too? I'd like to scratch that one off my list of credible institutions of higher learning.
Pretty much the same for me, but only 3 Accounts, will drop 1 Account then or move the Char to an existing account.
I do rarely post on this forum, but these news were so amazingly bad news, that i felt a strong urge to vote against this Change.

Can a Dev please clarify this?
Does this mean that people who set long skills before the patch will be able to continue the ghost training until they re-activate, whilst people whose account lapse after the patch will no longer be able to do so?
OR
will ALL ghost training stop immediately, even those accounts that lapsed before the patch?

CCP, I'm old enough and perhaps lucky enough, to have served my military time many years ago. I can log on and off whenever I choose, and i know exactly what my account will be doing next month.
Right now there are millions of men and women who have chosen to serve their countries (and their fellow man) all over the world. Many of them do not have the luxury of constant internet access, and many of them pay on a month to month basis with GTC's and cash.
Some of them don't know what their world will be like tomorrow.
I'm not asking you to scrap the entire policy. I am asking you to please reconsider your stance on this, and try to create a provision in the policy that addresses the needs of those who just might have to let an account expire because they have no other choice. |
