Originally by: Carsidava Then your market orders and research points should stop as well. After all, with market orders up you can make money while your account is expired. With research points you can continue to accumulate them while your account is expired, and when you re-subscribe you come back to a fat amount of RPs that you can cash in for ISK. That is entirely inconsistent with the ghost training thing.
If CCP wants to remove ghost training then they should also remove market orders from inactive accounts, and stop inactive accounts from acquiring RPs.
Dividend payouts to inactive shareholders as well, those should be stopped.
This is what everyone who is in favor of this should be focusing on. CCP's explanation doesn't jive one bit with the reality of the situation. If you're against inactive training, you absolutely must be against all of these things as well or you're pretty much a damned dirty hypocrite.

Hey CCP, maybe if you're going to drop a bombshell like this, you could at least show a little bit of respect and give more advance notice of thisgjogiusarhgoasenrhosenhosednhsehnshsdht.
Who the **** am I kidding, this is a panic play for GTC sales. Sell a pile, then go change your minds on Wednesday saying "Sorry everyone, crossed wires, we were intending to shaft the Chinese server". |

Originally by: Cannibal PLT I've never had an alt, and I only own one account. That being said, I just cancelled my subscription, and have no intentions of resubscribing.
Training month-long level 5 skills without having to have your account active is one of the major selling points of Eve Online (among many others), that seperates Eve from the plethora of other MMOs. And lets not kid around, there's lots of level 5 skills you need to train to do fun things in Eve (outside of frigate swarming).
OK, wtf? Can I have your T1 frigate? Wow there are a lot of lvl 5 skills who'd have thunk it? Actually I heard a rumor that every skill had a level 5 but it's just a rumor.
Play the game FFS, ok so here is this guys training plan, train for hac, total time for Cruiser 5 is 30 days, wait for end of subscription period, set skill and walk away and not play for 30 some days? Are you kidding me? PLAY the GAME! You are going to need isk to buy that HAC and fit it, you are going to need other skills, this won't work, the only way it works is with alts, many alts alts that are being power leveled to cap ships/hulks so they can be sold for 2-4 billion isk. This is killing guys isk farming with characters and it's killing their wallet, that's why the moaning and the *****ing, nobody who plays eve and has one or 2 characters cares about this patch all the isk farmers do, well you'll have to find another way to finance that titan boys, try playing the game instead of gaming the play.

The great thing about Eve is the fact you could take a break or do that real life thing for a few months knowing when you come back you aren't well out of date, unlike other games you can't catch up in Eve no matter how much you play it.
So although this will probably encourage some to keep their accounts active I would guess quite afew will just not bother, thus losing just as much revenue and lets be honest this is all about making yourselves more money.
Very bad move and another step in making Eve just the same old crap as all the other MMO's

Hopefully, CCP's lack of response after getting well over 600 posts, 95% negative, in 3 1/2 hours simply means they're in crisis mode and having a meeting about it right now. Not likely, though.

i have done my emorage post (wich was very calm = somewhere on page 7 and now that i had time to think about it
i must say that change is nothing else but BRILLIANT and now that ive got at least somebodys attention
think about it the hordes of noobs that will never be capable of sitting in t2 ships just skill up for battleships and the odd t2 gear and then just proceed to crosstrain to other races till theyr borred of this game and leave i say its awesome! means all the older characters will be comfortably sitting on their t2 and cap ships this is also limmiting the availability of cap, especialy titan pilots!
old pvpers will be regarded as gods due to their ship flying capability old manufacturers will consolidate their accounts into 1 max 2 high sec belts will once again be populated because people will stop getting a second and third account and consolidate their usefull alts into 1 to build stuff drone regions will become interesting and fought over because minerals spawn there! ccp will continue getting money thru the traveling thru people but the overall growth of the game will come to a halt again giving us old boys who think eve has gotten too small some space again to breath
negative side effect will be that isk selling will become even more anoying but meh you cant have it all
once again bravo ccp!

Right now you're pretty much the only game in town. That fact appears to have clouded your customer service responsiveness, and has certainly damaged your client base.
In the not so distant future you will be competing with a game that was pretty damn good in it's day. You can bet your corporate asses they will be doing everything they can to lure, entice, and plain flat out steal customers and revenue from you.
Get your sh*t together kiddies or you're gonna be feeling the economic crunch in a very big way.
What game are you talking about?
Also yeah this is a bad idea CCP, just like the GTC changes

okay here's a good reason people should be mad. If your an old player and you already have for example trained BS to lvl 5. Then you had the chance whether you used it or not to train for free. New players will no longer have that opportunity. They are gonna feel used and betrayed by CCP and all because CCP wants more money. Many of these players especially the brand new ones are just gonna stop and walk away before they spend more money.
And whether you think the chance is good or bad. Less players means this game will suffer. And how is that good for anyone?

How is it not free? If the account is inactive for 2 months and you log in after the 3rd month because the training is done, you've had 3 months of no paying on the account. So, you had to pay $15 to reactivate the account. In the mean time, you've gotten xxxx number of skill points for $15 that cost me $60.
Sure looks to me like you got 3 months of training for free.

Agreed with this point. I have gotten at least three different people to play EVE mainly based on this point. They would tell me, "well I don't have a lot of time for a game like that". I would then tell them about ghost training and they would at least give it a try, as of right now all three are still playing, as for how long that continues, I don't know.

hey, it worked for.. what was that mmo that did this? right, I can't remember because it failed miserably within the first few months because trying to squeeze cash out of your playerbase like this alienates huge swaths of existing and potential subscribers

Really bad idea. I like to take a break from games from time to time and this removes a big incentive to return. I hope they reconsider, it's disappointing removing one of the game's USPs like this.

Originally by: Traxio Nacho Yet another great idea from CCP who appear to be more and more turning into Blizzard....... Then again its all about the green these days [...] I bet CCP's next great idea will be you only train skills while you are online
And having you fly 32 hours of Battleship while patiently looking at the "+5 Battelship SKillpoints earned" before reaching Battleship II... And having to fire 4 334 123 400 rounds of blaster to earn the next level. And adding levels to stop those little pests with only 4 mill SP from bugging the 3 years old industrials. And maybe next one will be to wear some leather boots or helm, a dual broadaxe and... oh wait. Sounds like something known. And mostly unwanted.
I'm outta here, for some reason I smell Rare blue and Epic purple modules coming up...

Yes you have extra skill points but its not like you have actually been able to play the game is it?
In Eve once you're behind in SP you can't gain more unlike other MMO's this was one good selling point for CCP that people could come back and not be too far behind, now alot of people just won't bother coming back atall.

I see this as a statement that has been masked over to make it sound like someone complained instead of the truth. By changing a word here and there you can see what it is really about.
"This practice upsets the balance of CCPs wallet, and CCP employees who actively put their time and energy into working on their drinking will no longer be unfairly affected by those few who have not paid thier accounts."
There...now that makes sense.
I'm curiuos though... how long would it take an account to be considered as "Inactive"? 30 days? A week? 24 hours? The second you are not paid? Or does it go by how often you log in? Do we need to be logged in all the time now so we can train skills? Think of all the lag that would create by people who just don't want to loose SP. 100,000+ players logged on all the time...you think lag is bad now
I think further explaination is needed in this respect.
