Originally by: CCP Fallout A long overdue and much needed change will be put in place with the Wednesday, 15 October 2008 patch. Ghost Training, the continuous skill gain on accounts in an inactive or expired state - will no longer function after Wednesday, 15 October 2008. This practice upsets the balance of the game, and capsuleers who actively put their time and energy into working on their characters will no longer be unfairly affected by those few who have not.
We understand that this is a hot topic amongst players, and request that you discuss this necessary change without breaking the forum rules.
The next time when you decide to lie to your customers, at least spent some time and imagination on coming up with a decent quality lie next time please. Thanks in advance.

From what I gather this change was probably finally put in place for many factors:
> It should lower character farming for isk, which has actually become quite a problem. > It gives balance to the game, why the hell should you gain experience when you are not playing anyway? > It may lower GTC isk costs eventually as less people will be buying.
I don't see why people moan. CCP will be loosing more money than they are gaining for this, and to be honest ignoring the character farmers how many people will be effected that much in the grand playerbase i.e. more than just the forums.
And before people go l2p or call me a noob or whatever, I have been playing for five years, only missing out a single month when finances disallowed me. |

so ccp you say this is a step toward your player community... amazing!
as said above you can stop training also when offline, that would be a rightful justice delivered for those who put their time and energy into playing the game instead of going to work or sleeping.
but who cares anyway as the fanfest is coming, this minor issue's gonna be washed away by the glamour, all the shiny, lasercraft and photo contest and stuff and all the mesmerized players will go open another 50 accounts after that.

First you effectively tripple GTC/ISK prices, and now you top it off with preventing us from at least bridging the 30 days difference between 60/90 with a long skill training. Great way to go.
Originally by: Chribba Since now basicly there's not even a reason to reactivate the account to start a skilltraining, this change imo will render more inactive accounts than it was before...

It would be nice if, after 6 pages, at least someone from CCP would respond to the arguments being made here. I don't think it's asking too much to say "Hey, this is the logic we are working with here: <insert logic>", versus decreeing "thou shalt not" and then just leaving it to the public to continually post without any sort of subsequent communication.
We pay your bills; it's not unreasonable for us to ask for you to respond to us in some way.

Wow. Well done CCP. Preventing people from coming back to your game must really padd that bottom line. How about you start using someone with brains for your economy planing instead of next quartal long term blind economists? There must be some people around who understand about this strange concept of long term.
With the whole economy in the gutter you are making the game more expensive to play. A freaking game!!! In what universe do you think that a game falls under necessary thing that people will suck it up? It's not food, it's fun but it's quite easy to entertain yourself in other cheaper ways.
I guess that you will change your mind once the bottom line gets hit. Might be too late but I guess you really want that vampire MMO so killing off eve is probably planed anyway.

Edited by: Cadinie on 13/10/2008 17:44:25 Nice work CCP. Your ability to do the opposite of what your player base tells you continues to amaze me. If you just said "We want more cash out of you" then I could respect the honesty. Hiding behind some bullshit excuse that this patch is in some way "for my own good" really just proves how out of touch everyone at CCP, especially the DEV Team, is.

Exactally - you've been playing for five years and have a boatload of SP. Chances are that there's not much you can't do, not many ships that you can't fly. Try telling a new player that he's going to have to wait three years to pilot a capital ship and see just what they have to say..

i don't see why people moan either, unless they have 5 chars training to be sold or something. it's the CCP head accountant who should be moaning as he\she is about to see some major revenue drop. and with the speed nerf coming also and even more people leaving because of it... are we witnessing a hostile takeover from within or what?

i will be doing the same, but CCP seem to have missed the fact that the only reason myself came back to eve from a long break was i knew my skill would have been done that was enough to reactivate my account and then i got hooked again. when i get bored of eve next time what will pull me back?

I just realized, this is probably going to cost you as much money as it recovers.
A huge part of the reason many people get a third or fourth account is because they don't need to have all of them active at the same time, and you're not paying as much money while they skill up to be useful. Now you hit diminishing returns sooner, and all those multi-account *****s will rethink things.
At the same time, people who take a break from the game were more compelled to come back when they know they haven't been penalized for it. Now people who take a break are going to have their avatar affinity taken down a notch or two.
In the past I enjoyed playing another "main" in another corp, knowing this main wasn't getting hurt as a result of my temporary deviance. I've trained up 3-4 characters from scratch because it this made things easier. I'm down to one account from a max of three or four, but I always thought that option was still open to me in the future. I don't think that's the case anymore.
CCP, you don't "get" EVE anymore.

IMHO, well overdue. If you don't pay then why should you benefit as though you do play? if you are going to be offline a while then either pay and set a long skill, or just accept that you aren't playing and look forward to when you can again.

As a beneficiary of unsubscribed BS V training on multiple characters, I support this!
... if we're going to see skill queues implemented in the near future, and if we're going to see NPC data core production pause on unsubscribing as well.

Holy crap, what a terrible timing your announcement had! You should watch the news sometimes.
And also against this..."patch". I liked the fact that when I returned from my summer holidays, I would have a new toy to use. And I have returned, always, but now...? I seriously don't know. All I could probably think would be how much time I had wasted since my account wasn't training. Forget the skill queue, forget training on multiple characters at the same time, just keep ghost training for the greater good, and for the sake of your own wallets.
Another point of view; how is this fair for newer players? Old players have been ghost training for 5 years and they don't get to do it at all.
