Little more information please? Or a link to where the info is if it's already out there.
Why is it much needed - what gains are expected from this change (to CCP, Eve and the players) balanced against what downsides?
How does it upset the game balance? I can't say I'm aware of ever feeling adversely affected by the fact that someone else can train a character in the exact same way that I can, but does so without accruing assets, LP, reputation or friends.
What constitutes an inactive account and what action will be taken to inform players in a timely way that their account is about to be considered inactive?
I'm pretty sure my account will be seen as inactive as I haven't logged in for some time (been taking one of those 'putting rl first' breaks that are so common) but I've no idea when that's likely to happen again if I log in on Wednesday to show face and start a new skill off.
I'm not saying I'm for or against this change at the moment as I'd like to know the reasons why it's considered necessary. At the moment the OP seems like the equivalent of saying 'from Wednesday all underwear will be blue, this is a much needed and overdue change'. Context makes all the difference and I'd like some please. Meanwhile, I'm off to change my pants. Trinity Nova Mercenary Services Web Site - Nominated for the 2008 E-ON Magazine Awards |

Besides, how are you being any less active at improving your character than someone with an active account? All you can do is set a single long skill training, and that requires just as much activity on your part whether you're subscribed or not. This is a poor choice of justification.
As others have suggested, this might actually have a negative net impact on your total income, as people leaving the game will no longer have the option to leave a skill going in case they decide to return later; they won't have something new to come back to.
I fully Agree with this guy, What about the people who skill up 2-3 chars to eventually sell them for isk on the Forums? I for one currently run 3 accounts and 1 of them is going inactive on the 27th oct, i was planning to skill and sell this char that i started from scratch earlier this year, instead i will keep it inactive. Ive been beaten with CCP's Pain Stick twice this year i cant afford to run all 3 accounts 24/7/12 and secondly its a Sepcialized minmitar Claymore pilot (horrible speed nurf), please beat me some more with your Pain Stick CCP.
Can CCP name one player thats complained? I dont think so. this is just them wanting more money. Fair enough i suppose but im sure this will have a negative effect.

The GTC changes were bad enough to justify, this is just pure money grabbing.
I cant believe they dare to show the disrespect of pretending its to do with in-game balance. ______________________________

I've quit eve 3 times now, once after a run in with customer service that just terminally ****ed me off. Two of those breaks, I've 'abused' Ghost training. Each time, the thought that I now had a long training time skill to 5 was a real factor in deciding to return to Eve. It probably was the deciding factor in at least one case.
This change is ill-thought out, and will likely cause more harm than good. Kudos for announcing it, and not just sliding it in, hoping it would go unnoticed. How many gaming companies would do that, eh?

I don't think this will improve anything. An incentive for people to return after taking a break is that they now may have a new skill to come back to. There's nothing sinister about it, people just burn out from time to time. |

This idea is full of fail. Ghost skill training has NO effect on active players, so why do you tell us this bullsh*t about 'unfairly affected' and game balance? Why not just admit that this change is implemented to try and get more income from players? Lying to your playerbase does NOT make the situation better, only worse.
On a side note, players DO need skill queque, much more than this 'much needed change'.

we're destroying entire gameplay styles for your good
we're making the game even more expensive, for your good
it's all for you, the player. we swear. it has nothing to do with our glorious golden vision or our bloated bottom line.
how full of shit can this company possibly be? this is hilariously bad.

It is fair, or at least not unfair, and completely their decision to make. What CCP seems to completely underestimate is the number of people this "unfair feature" made come back. I quit a few times myself, usually after having petition handled by (badly) trained chimps, and also after the T20 incident (Or maybe after the way less publicized mothership for tournament vegeta/CCP Lemonde incident).
What got me back each time is a long skill training ending. And I'm far from alone in this case. If this is a move for getting rid of the more resource taxing older players it's a master move. The promise their new code shown have been proved not working already, so maybe it's a move to thin the population to get a technical grip on the server.

Never expected CCP to be this hypocritical... game balance... oh dear
Well, I had 2 accounts. Only one will be left in 12 days. Not reactivating the second account, selling the main on that account and be done with it.
One account bites the dust, a few k more to come? I'm sure of it. |

The strange thing is I keep all my accounts active while training so it's negligable impact on me.
But I'm disgusted on principle at the way you are pretending it's to balance the game and not divulging the real reason.
So -1 account. It won't make you go bust, you'll still get money on my other 2, but if enough of us do it, you might think twice before pulling a stunt like this again.
And in the off chance this is all prelude to some change we are going to love...fire your PR guys, they are lousy.

wondering why they are unfairly affected ... the only party that is "unfairly affected" is CCP¦s bank account money makes the world go around, looks like CCP realised that too now and tries to press as much out of their customers as they can, first GTC change for a 60 day industry standard, now ghost training change cause it¦s "unfair"... you guys should stop lying to yourself with this more than stupid "reasons" u use to enforce such stupid changes.

This was seen coming for years, yes its a money making idea. Not surprised or fazed in the slightest, however, a skill queue WOULD be nice.
I go for year long trips from eve and a skill queue would do me WONDERS. I'm left behind when I come back so I want that addition so I am not given another step to climb over.

Edited by: Kery Syander on 13/10/2008 17:22:45 wow, this is pretty crazy. As someone who ran quite a few accounts for around 2 years and recently decided to take a bit of a break from eve, I can definitely say this kind of move will almost certainly push me to sell all my characters. I can only assume that the amount of RMT that goes on in eve will increase with this move. I really don't see anyone taking the occasional much needed breaks from eve, instead they will probably just quit for good.
CCP, is Paulson running your financial department now?
edit: and the line about rewarding effort put directly into eve is ridiculous given GTC sales, etc. I think I would be hardpressed to come up with a stupider/more hypocritical move by CCP. -----

Yeah I know I've spent a lot of time and serious effort into watching the skill bar increase.
This game is horrible, why should anyone bother playing it anymore with how ccp manages it
