I don't understand why people accept to remove the Ghosting Training if they have Training Queue.
Ghosting must remain, but Training Queue must be implemented (only for active players of course). Maybe a time limit for Ghosting can be acceptable (30 days before stop training ?).
In fact, I don't understand how remove Ghosting Training can be considered as "fair".
Same if in a logical view, it is, it is required to see further the logic, and do a financial and psychological approach.
It is obvious that retire the Ghosting will only advantage wealthy players, and will expand the skill separation between inactive and veteran players, so generate more frustration about Eve Online, so less players etc... It make training more harder to be done...
We still speak about a "game" who require more time than any other MMORPGs to be really efficient. The Ghosting add something that the competitors don't have, and make Eve unique. ____

Edited by: Phyridean on 13/10/2008 22:47:00 I have my main and two alts. I couldn't afford to sub the alts for the next month, so I'm dark training them. Planning on bringing them back having trained some nice skills when I can afford it in a couple months. This was a feature I had always found appealing about Eve. It doesn't require complete commitment. I suspect that's partially why it attracts the (comparatively) mature playerbase that it does. These people have real life stuff to deal with, and don't live in their mothers' basements playing all the time.
Introducing a necessity of commitment to the game will eliminate all but the most dedicated players (of which I am probably one) who CCP probably would have retained anyway. Even those players are likely to eliminate a majority of their alts.
I hope this decision gets reversed so my alts have something new to come back to when I can afford them. Training command ships 5 on an account I hardly use when it's subbed anyway isn't really worth the time.
Also, on the topic of dark training providing an unfair advantage: the advantage of being able to play (i.e. being subbed) is being able to work with your alliance, make isk, and, to put it bluntly play. Those people still train skills while subbed, so all the things you can't do while unsubbed are advantages those who subscribe already have over those who don't.
By the way, I think Certificates sound awesome.

No, without the ghost training the 'subscription break' will become 'quitting the game and playing something else' instead. Being able to come back to new skills and new ships to fly because of it is one of the big reasons people resub in the first place.
Cause that Level 5 BS skill helps you fly sooooo many more ships and do sooooo many more things than BS 4. Wonderful logic there.
It doesn't matter. The main thing is you have something new to return to. Not the same old crap you left. The whole thing is about perception. Few people actually use it but it being there and a posibillity means something to a lot more people. And as mentioned alt payed for 3 months out of 6 is still 3 months payed more than zero.

Look if i pay for all my accounts (5 btw) with GTCs, it can be a pain to get it organised, especially if i am away etc. Also, if something pops up in real life with money and i cant keep an account going (which i could do if youd allow direct debits in the uk for fraks sake), then itd be nice if i could still train a long skill that will finish when i get more money.
I dont see how this is affecting players of eve at all because 90% of your player base will at some point partake in ghost training. Its a load of old ********* tbh and just another way of money spinning. If this is something to do with the collapes of Landsbanki or whatever bank CCP used then fine, explain so and maybe it would make it more acceptable, but to blatantly lie about it benefiting the player base is outlandish at best.
I hope this, along with that awful carrier nerf idea, gets resigned to the waste bin that is CCP headquarters. If it does not, then i fear that i will reduce my number of accounts to compensate for any financial difficulties that may occur....

I stumbled accross 'ghost training' back in march 2004 - all my friends had quit and I was a bit sick myself. I took a month long break and then logged back in full of renewed energy to find Caldari Cruiser V had 2 days to go. I was pretty surprised.
I've played solidly since then to early spring this year when I was feeling a little burnt again and took a break over summer for 2 months - leaving a capital ship V skill training - 54 days.
I was planning a break from my second acount whilst training a 40 day skill in the next few days as the sub runs out on the 20th so this is directly affecting me. I'll now sell that second character instead as I don;t have the time to make it a valid expense anymore.
The first 2 paragraphs are why ghost training is great and one of things I've always touted as a forward thinking feature of Eve. Shame.
The final irony is that I posted in a comments thread about the news of microtransactions in WoW about CCP doesn't do stupid stuff like that about an hour and a half before finding out about this.
I'm really disapointed in CCP with this news and I can't help it's going to cost them alot of money in the long run.

This is crap CCP. It's not about Balance, and likely more about your wallet. I hope it completely back-fires on your stupid arses and you reverse this. Or at least give us dual-skill-training.
It isn't fair to new players and takes away some of the shine in your game. I realize not everyone even knew about ghost-Training before today, however it's still a completely un-needed change.
Also the lack of a CCP/dev response after 45pages is total shit.

Your making me think "am I going to regret spending 2 years planning to be left with nothing?"
Congrats CCP Fallout, I really hope someone gave you that script to post as if not you've pretty much destroyed my faith in you guys being around long term.
An exceptionally good point. I've believed that Eve would always be there, and develop as computer power will, and what grand things would come of that. I've thought that the day would come when we could leave our ships and go on adventures on all of the many thousands of planets; that Eve would continue to push against the limits of technology and imagination and let us believe that there are amazing things in this world.
But now all I can think of is will the game still run five years from now? Or two years? It seems like an overreaction to a small disappointment, but just the announcment of planning this possible change is indicating a game in decay. "Already the world seems a little less bright", as it were.

Get an English grammer guide. If they are paying 6X60 day subscriptions, hence paying for a full year, then they won't be affected by this change. It would only be if they were paying 3X60 subscriptions with 3x60 breaks unpaid, while still skilling up, that they have any effect place on them. So, their loses would be in the neighborhood of less than 1 mil a year, AT MOST. Chances are, more than 90% of these whiners will still be playing 3 months from now.

Originally by: CCP Fallout A long overdue and much needed change will be put in place with the Wednesday, 15 October 2008 patch. Ghost Training, the continuous skill gain on accounts in an inactive or expired state - will no longer function after Wednesday, 15 October 2008. This practice upsets the balance of the game, and capsuleers who actively put their time and energy into working on their characters will no longer be unfairly affected by those few who have not.
We understand that this is a hot topic amongst players, and request that you discuss this necessary change without breaking the forum rules.
The dishonesty in this statement, with it's assumption that we're stupid enough to believe that "this is for our own good", is actually worse than the change itself. And that's pretty bad.
Now I'm idly curious how many subs this will cost.
Anyone care to bet that subscription figure suddenly stop appearing in the near future too...?

I remember, when I stopped playing eve online, sooner or later my skill training stopped, yet I am back. I am back and playing. When you see my characters age, you would think, I should have lots of SPs, but that isn't the case. Yet others enjoy SPs from the time they haven't paid a cent. Is it fair? No. Now I have 3 accounts.
CCP has 3 main choices:
Add the missing SP to accounts like my accounts. Sadly lots of people would sent their accounts online. Which isn't a good case. Remove ghost training. Or accept the difference.
You can guess why the first choice would be a problem. A lot of people would start an account, leave it for a year, and do skill training after.
About the 2nd and 3rd option: It is a matter of preference. Can you get any amount of hard core and experience Eve players on the long run? They enjoy having 5 or more accounts, but these accounts are subscribed for half of the time. Can you get many many new players? These people enjoy when they don't have to compete with people who can use lots of accounts, some of them are inactive, to gain advantage in RPs, Skill points, Sell orders, Buy orders, etc. without spending a cent.
If you don't keep all those accounts you don't have a such huge advantage over new and casual players, and with time the gap between veterans and new players became more and more wide. They had a chance to decide: Stop ghost training to reduce the gap, or use another trick to make this difference less important, or try to wait.
Running Eve Online isn't cheaper than running any other game, but so far, it was far cheaper for us, players. If CCP has to raise the price, for many reasons, and need to focus on getting new players in the game, I can understand and accept that.
BUT, in all honesty, the question is: a lot of people will see their game is "ruined" by this, and some advantages of the game is vanished thanks to it. I think if long term subscription plans, ability to use mobile devices, web, etc. for skill changing, market use, etc would be introduced, and the rate of skill training would get increased the game would be better.
I would suggest 1.5 times multiplier for skill training speed, a possible system for skill changes usable from mobile devices, and an ability to place orders, use industry from mobile devices as compensation.

Edited by: Charly Quickfire on 13/10/2008 22:49:13 Well, let's see: - introducing 60 days GTCs and deleting all other GTC options with crap argument, done - deleting a unique selling point of EVE with crap argument, done
Are these actions supported by CCP's CEO or did the financial guys just get his approval by showing some nice graph about increasing profit? (that's what I would have done, nice powerpoint slides + keywords rock!)
Unfortunately only time will tell what consequences this will have for EVE. Will be interesting if character prices will stay the same or increase or decrease
But in my little world, CCP will get less money from me, so, bad idea from where I am standing. Or actually good idea, should be spending less money for EVE anyway.
Ninja-edit: What's next? Disabling skilltraining while being not logged into the game? Because that's a disadvantage vs those that can play/stay logged in 23/7? |

I can totally see why CCP are doing this from an economic angle but not a game balance angle.
We're at the start of an economic recession, we've just had global collapse of the money market and Iceland almost nearly went bankrupt and their currency is severely damaged (although it's bounced back a little in the last week due to shutting down the Icelandic stock exchange and refusing to trade in isk). Of course they need to increase their profits but this is not about CCP being greedy but about CCP being able to survive in the medium term. So stop fu*king whining or you won't have any game to whine about.
From a game balance point of view? well that excuse is pure p**s.

if i want to play game and get exp wen i'm online i play Lineage 2/WoW/GuildWars(very good game actualy)
In eve if you short on time you can set up loong skill (Fighters lvl 5/ Carrier lvl 5) and just leave it.. coz if i come back i still have same SP as frien of me gaming 23/7
THis hasn't changed a bit. They just want you to pay while you let the skills gain and don't log in. Otherwise, let the account lapse and come back to exactly what you left, just like any other game.
The point is i for one dont play any other game, i play EVE (well, played at this point)
the reason i started playing eve was because of "ghost training" as a poor college student you have to be very selective about what months you pay for your game and the only thinnk that kept me able to play with my friends when i re-activated was that my skill had finished when i came back
If you really think this is true, and were really training 30+ day skills, then you really have a limited understanding of how the game works. When I started, I was able to play with people that had been playing for more than a year, and still make a real contribution, inside of two months. I wasn't on the front line or getting close to their DPS right away, but I was contributing and making my presence felt.

It's clear you don't care, but say good by to $50 in fees you were just about to get on three accounts.
Your skill methodology now looks like horseshit. Pay us for months on end just to fly a ship. No reward to doing anything other than money which you could just buy for $30 anyway.
When my last three acounts run out of game time, I'm done. You went from a happy customer who paid real cash money - not isk - to keep six accounts active. I'm going to 0.
And screw you people who say 'it's just $14.95' or whatever. For me it's the waste of time.
To be able to mine in an exhumer I have to wait over 45d of 'long ass skills' just to do it.
If your'e going to do this, you need a way for me to waste ISK and buy insta trains in the form of implants or something. But just cutting me off at the knees with no warning = no sale.
