Originally by: Disteeler I think this is going to make CCP loose subscriptions. I know a lot of people that plays off an on, but when they re-start playing they are happy because they have some new and fresh skill at lvl 5 because "ghost training".
On the toppic of CCP loosing subscriptions, they might, but not many. Lets face it CCP have us by the Gonads Wiki:- Gonads. We'll moan and groan and continue to post in this thread which will receive little attention from CCP, some of us will threaten to close our accounts, but in the main, we've all worked hard to get our chars where they are to just walk away from EvE. So I really don't see people quiting over it - as annoying as it is and in particular - how like GOA CCP are; burying their heads in the sand like an ostridge instead of listening to it's player base.
We have the CSM - isn't that what the CSM is all about? looking after the player base and liasing/interceding with CCP on our behalf?
For goodness sake CCP - wake up!!!

I actually think the whole "unattended" skill training that this change touches upon needs to be fixed.
When you are due to gain a skillpoint, a button appears in your skill list in your character sheet, and by clicking it you gain that skillpoint. Then, a few seconds later, you'll be ready to gain another skillpoint.
I don't see why someone who isn't logged on and fast asleep should gain skills at the same rate as someone logged in and actively putting time and energy into working on their characters. |

Wow, that's all I can say to this one.
Exactly. So I suppose I should pay specific attention with my twitchy mouse finger incase that button comes up while im in a battle.

Customer Relations suggestions
1) Push the date back a month so that people can get used the idea. 2) I'm going to second the idea that you should get limited 'vacation' ghost training time with your subscription. Maybe give us a chance to buy vacation time directly at a reduced price. 3) Give us some sort of skill training queue. |

Well for one thing this will mostly affect older players who are reaching a point where the majority of their skills are level 5s with high multipliers and month and a half long skill times, some like me may be bored of their current tool kit and want new toys to play with. However newer players can't really afford not subscribe for too long as the time between skill levels are too short. The 06/5/4s/+ etc, us older players, the one's who are reaching these month plus long skills might decide to take a break every once in a while and leave a long skill going, there is always that incentive to come back to the game as we now have access to a new piece of kit, ship, etc.
That incentive is now to disappear, personally its the reason that I came back after several months this summer, I was bored, I'd been killing the same crap over and over again, dying in the same lag battles while trying to make a meek living in 0.0. So i set a long skill and took a break. What brought me back? Well CCP sent me that customer survey form and I though I'd give it another go knowing I had access to new stuff after leaving a long skill training in case i decided to renew my sub, already I had been sufficiently ****ed off with the 60d, the incessant perma lag since joining that made large battles that should be epic slide shows, and the general crappy mechanics that was making the game less exciting and more about grinding, waiting and being tharted. Die or Adapt might be the saying, but there's only so much adapting you make before you decide extinction sounds nice. I don't know, say I take another break? This may be my own opinion but frankly I'm a bit bored of waiting huge amounts of time, grinding away. Spose there are lots of other games and I could always donate my assets to newer players in my corp. Who knows.
Frankly I hate this change, CCP must be on some cash efficiency drive, squeezing as much juice as the can from their base by some jobs worth. But then what can one expect, it almost always inevitable with some companies and CCP seems to be going more and more corporate in its personality every month.

This is a change that has been long overdue and I am glad to see that CCP is making it. IMHO, if you want to have a character training, then pay for the account. I also second the comments that these ghost accounts should also have their research point earnings and market orders suspended as well.
For those of you who will quit over this change, goodbye. I'd tell you to take your 5-6 ghost accounts with you, but due to their nature you already have.

It's all about the money, not about the service. If they really cared about helping us out, build a skill queue into the game so I can quit cheating and using a 3rd party program to do this for me.

GHOST TRAINING IS FREE SKILLS HOLY SHIT BALANCE BALANCE BALANCE
seriously do you not understand that people actually subscribe to additional accounts and spend equal or more money because it exists?
Quotin' dis, because there's a lot of ******s about...
This is exactly correct. CCP earned more money off me even with my inactive accounts training because I had multiple accounts. On average they made more money. In fact, the whole reason I created my 2nd account was I could keep my main training while I was playing my alt. If that feature didn't exist I would have never created that 2nd account. Now I will just go back to the one account and CCP will earn less money from me.
I think people are not understanding what is meant by inactive account. An inactive account is one that you haven't paid for. It is not one that you paid for but just aren't using.
Now, if CCP says otherwise, then you all will have a totally different beef.

This is a big problem that it takes so long to train these skills that a lot of people are leaving the game and come feb 09 it might be my last after three years make the game more interesting and you wont have players leaving as much you dont have to make it so that everthing takes such a long time to learn or do things for us to stay with you just keep us from getting BORED!!!!!

Because it's basically impossible to keep an account unsubbed even 50% of the time with 60-day GTCs. There aren't that many applicable rank 6+ skills for a given character that can be trained in monthly succession. You'll end up with a horrible ADD wreck of a character doing that. Even with 30-day GTCs it was extremely difficult to unsub a purpose-built alt for more than 10-20 days at a time while sticking to a reasonable skill-plan. I'd really hate to see your character's skillsheet if you think chaining rank 8-10s is a realistic plan for a good character.

Read CCP Fallout's post at the start of the thread, and then tell me why someone not logged in should gain skills as fast as someone who is actively putting their time and energy into working on their character. If I'm logged in and developing my character, I should be rewarded for spending my time and energy, when compared to someone who trains skills when fast asleep. |

Alright, This is far from a 'necessary' change. This does nothing for game balance, so of course it is a 'hot topic'.
While the following statement is not a fact, it is an observed logical conclusion: You guys might be going about increasing revenue in a poor fashion. I propose severe caution in this line of thought.
I hope no forum rules were broken here because I prefer to think integrity is still an admirable trait these days.

5. If you don't want to pay then use the "Cancel Subscription" button. It states "Need a break from EVE ? Suspend your account. You can Re-activate at any time" which is entirely correct. It doesn't - contrary to what appears to be the opinion of many here - say that you can carry on getting stuff (like training) for free while you are NOT PAYING.
Actually I asked a GM this exact question a year ago, they said to me yes we do allow your skill to continue to completion you do not lose skills or stop training. So that does prove it was put in as a part of the game, who knows if it said something to that effect on the site before this announcement, they prob removed it if there was.

I am going to add my tuppence worth to the argument. I am one of 4 paying accounts and one of them went offline for 24 hours with out me noticing it. This would mean I would lose a days skill training. This is not a nice thought.
Like others I would like a warning when the account is due to expire if this daft idea is going to be implemented. The option is to rationalise my accounts and downsize the number. Which is bullsxxt speak for closing some of my accounts down.

I'll call you an idiot now, though- get out of your mother's basement and consider why you could possibly be against your fellow players and with the corporation on this.
You're either in CCP, want to fellate them, or...I don't even know.
You are only an idiot if you namecalled. As mentioned!
Also, I am not working with CCP, and dont want to "fellate" with them. I do like them however for their good game, just as much as I liked SOE while they had their pre-cu SWG!
But this is stupid! No other online game on the market allows players to earn ingame stuff while not playing! AND PAYING! And so it should be! If you cant afford playing, thats fine! The game will be waiting for you when you return, and as you left it! That is fair to the PLAYERBASE!!!!! WHO DO PAY! To be honest, it is YOU who dont support the fellow players by letting others earn ingame value while not paying!
So yes, it IS a good move! Its called fairness to those of us who pay 15 dollar a month!
How many MMO game use time basic skill training ? No one. Oh no, or you will playing with Eve 24 year for max skills ? This is just a CCP business politic. They just want more money for long time trough.

Yes, how dare CCP insist that you pay the fee if you want to gain the benefits of something in the game?
Money-grubbing bastards, they shouldn't close loopholes that let people gain months' worth of training for a fraction of the cost of the time required. It's totally unethical for them to expect to be paid for using their game.
Actually, I'm hoping this change cuts through the fields of disposable alts on secondary accounts like a scythe through summer wheat.

No, YOU'RE not understanding what people do. A lot of people (myself included) were inclined to create alts specifically BECAUSE they could lapse on the long skills and save a bit of money until the character got to the point where we could use it for something, at which point it gets subbed indefinitely (since it's now useful, it's worth paying for since it can be used). Without the training continuing when subscriptions lapsed, WE. NEVER. WOULD. HAVE. CREATED. THOSE. ALT. ACCOUNTS.
I'm not sure this can be put any simpler without MSPaint.
