I hope they change their mind, i don't want this to be removed. I often take breaks from eve, and i love that a skill keeps on training even though am not paying for the game. I assume this has been in the game since it's launch, so i don't quite understand why they are removing it now, beside the thoughts of money.

Alts are really good at distracting mains when they get burned out on the large amount of stuff in this game that simply doesn't work, or works so poorly that it might as well not exist. Dread pilot burned out on POS shooting? Log your alt and go fly some small gangs and rediscover why you even play the game. That sort of thing.

I think what happened is CCP thinks that people only unsubscribed their accounts because they wanted to get something for free.
They aren't considering how many people unsubscribe because they are bored and frustrated with all the flaws Eve has.
A lot of people here are making the same assumption: that people only unsubscribe because they want something for free. In reality most people are unsubscribed at any point because they do not want to play anymore, for whatever reason. They leave long skills training because they think "At some point I might want to come back, and when I do I will have something new to try." In a few months that player might come back and give CCP more money to reactivate so they can continue to play.
What is happening is that CCP is removing incentives for former players to return, not encouraging players to pay for the game while they train.

How fair is that!!!
You always have the subscription way! Which is the most common way of paying for a subscription! Either by visa or buying the GTC from a shop!

They do charge you for using their product. lol. Its not like you can play EVE when your account is inactive. Your character training != using product/service.
Apparently, CCP disagrees with you- hence this change.
I was always amazed they let people train an inactive account, to tell the truth.

The global economy is going into recession and customers are being hit once with the change to GTC`s and secondly with the no ghosting change. People just wont come back to the game not because its terribly unfair but because you decided it was an acceptable game mechanic for several years. If you play eve its because you like it each change seems to send a further slice of the play base over bored.

Sorry guyz but I agree with CCP on this one... BUT, I only see this viable if they want to ad the chaining/skill planner feature. If they do add a feature like that, then you could train a character for x years while not paying for it and that sounds stupid. But if they are not adding this feature, it is pure GREED and it doesn't have any logic in it.
Anywho, I really hope they will ad the planning feature along with the ban on ghost training... I believe it is really easy to code such a thing...
PS: Iceland has financial issues... Winter hollydays are coming and probably they are in need of money... :P, joking no offence, but ...ther might be a little truth in that.. :D

Complaining about alts is very interesting. Have you ever thought about where most your modules and ships actually come from? Remove alts (or the incentive to have an alt) from the game and enjoy the new market ...

I think people like you need to get a grip. Ask yourself whether those other games require you to be subscribed for years to be able to do the things you want. I was level 70 and ready for endgame in WoW in under 4 months, and I was a damn slow leveler - in AoC I was level 60 out of 80 in just three weeks. In EVE, on my original character I have played over two and a half years, got 38mil SP and I can't still do even nearly all the things I want to be able to do.
Sounds to me like it comes down to wanting a shortcut. I, too, got to level 60 very quickly in WoW, then quit, then subbed again and got to 70 inside of a week. And then quit. I might go back again for the expansion for a few months. Maybe. Now, here are the points:
1) What did Bliz give me while I wasn't subscribed? Nada. Nothing. Zip. Not even rested XP. As a consumer, am I surprised? No, because I wasn't paying.
2) How fast did the limited endgame in WoW get boring for you? Once you got a lvl 70 or six, didn't it get the slightest bit annoying that you couldn't do much but farm for an extra +2 stam on your feet or some such? Eve doesn't have that issue, by design; there is always something new to try, and even if you got 100% of all skills, there is the political game down in nullspace or the economic one to try to play. I, for one, prefer the way Eve does it.

Character sp training is considered to be an important and vital part of the gameplay session. That is also one of several reasons given of not introducing skill queues. Skill managing is as such considered gameplay.

This makes no business sense. This feature has been in the game since the start. Many people's reasoning behind coming back to the game is that when they need a break they set a long skill in motion. They then come back after the skill has finished.
I'm afraid all your going to do is exhaust peoples money and patience a lot faster in the current financial climate.
If you go ahead with this change then I seriously hope you compensate those who do 'actively put their time and energy into working their characters' with realtime levelling or some form of derivative of that. Otherwise it will just look like gouging.
It makes no sense that you would basically cull one of the games major unique features.
I'm going to qualify this with a

Even though I was getting ready to "Ghost" 2 of my accounts, I agree that this practice isn't conducive to "our" universe. I also agree that it would be nice to be able to have a skill plan that would allow for unattended sklling for a few months. I daily log on, check my accounts to make sure that I have nothing coming out of training (I am anal about this) and then choose a character to play on for that session.
Give us an unbroken training chain, and there will be no fallout from this unilateral decision to stop "Ghosting."

I am really not seeing what you mean by that the "capsuleers who actively put their time and energy into working on their characters will no longer be unfairly affected by those few who have not." Skill training takes as long as it takes no matter if your sitting in station all day long chatting or our running lvl 5 missions continuously or farming isk through the use of many underpaid people in foreign countries.
It's not exactly like we gain any SP's from killing anything and that is what truly brings that unique feeling to EvE and the Ghost training is icing on the cake. Try not to make your game unattractive to new players and work on fixing things that truly effect the daily game play. The only reason I am paying for multiple accounts is for the fact that I can be training up one to use should I get bored with my main's current fit and a lot of those skills take a while to complete. Making me continuously pay for both accounts will make poor little me go broke and force me to drop all accounts instead of supporting one or the other when I have the money to pay for them. Not all EvE player are 25+ with full time job to pay for their multiple accounts.
I ask you to revise this decision and stop relying on your in-game economist for your out of game fiscal policies.
