Gosh, yes, alts, so terrible. They're just ruining the game! By requiring more accounts and injecting more money into it! Yes!

* For the average Joe this change has very little impact on his/her gameplay, it'll just make it a nuissance for those with multiple accounts/holidays/etc. * Alot of players will dislike this.
Now, look at those two points above, and think for a second.. why would CCP do this thing? It doesn't affect much on a personal level and it's been in the game for 5year+. And it'll **** off their customer base. Do you think they enjoy ****ing people that pays their bills off?
Take a look at the character sales section, and you'll see why CCP feel forced to act now, years later. This change isn't unfair to anyone really tho. I've benefited from it personally, did bs5 etc while accounts been inactive. I'm just glad I could do it. I've expected this change since day one and not ****ed it happens. It was bound to.
Mostly it's just embarrassing for CCP that they didn't predict this situation.

A long overdue and much needed change will be put in place with the Wednesday, 15 October 2008 patch. Fixing all the bugs in EVE.This practice upsets the balance of the game, and capsuleers who actively put their time and energy into Playing Eve online will no longer be unfairly affected by in game bugs.
We fecking wish, Broken game, despite this spent 20 pounds on alt account 2 months ago was looking forward to doing bs 5 over xmas while i need the extra cash then reactive since buying gtc with isk has gone through the roof. I dont think ill bother tbh.

This will make it so players who play on and off will take forever to get t2 or any advanced training done. I hate paying for something that I am not using and with the current system I like coming back to possibly something new to use.

No, without the ghost training the 'subscription break' will become 'quitting the game and playing something else' instead. Being able to come back to new skills and new ships to fly because of it is one of the big reasons people resub in the first place.

Only with ghost training, they're not... they're just disposable nonentities that people use while their ghost account is still active for a skill change. Heaven forfend that people have to start using a real character to scout for gatecamps or do recon work.

After this thread I'm definitely buying stock in tin foil manufacturing. Come on guys. CCP isn't so dumb as to think that this change will be anything better than revenue neutral (they aren't going to net any more money).
What it will slow down or stop is this chain:
Dyspro Moon >> Isk >> GTC >> Cap Pilot Alt Farming >> Dyspro Moon.
They just made it twice as expensive (isk wise) to do this.
SP is the grind in this game. It takes time to power up your account, and it costs money for the time. In no other game do the holders of multiple accounts have a structural advantage over those who only have one. In no other game can a powerful guild/clan/alliance easily fund alt farming purely from their assets in game.
As I see it, this move further levels the playing field between the "power gamer" who knows and plays all the angles (like ghost training and alt farming) and the "average joe" who pays his one account subscription and tries to compete. Overall, it'll be good for the game.

I personally don't mind this change as my 4 accounts are permasubbed anyways. However I do hope the reason for this change to happen in the first place is as a prerequsite to get a skill queue implemented.

Originally by: Arkady Sadik I don't particularly mind this change. (I do know a person who buys "cheap" characters and just trains up the "pesky lvl5 skills" with account breaks, re-selling the character as a "fully-trained mothership pilot" - he makes quite some ISK with that. I don't think it's a good feature.)
I do have two problems with this change, though.
The first one is that there is basically no warning at all that your game time is about to expire. From one day to the next, it goes "account expired." It would be highly annoying to find out that you weren't training your skill for 1-2 days because you didn't log in yesterday. Please add a reminder "your game time is running out in 7 days" or so when you log in.
The other is that you will lose more players that way. I know quite a few people who were in an "eve low" and let their accounts expire. They set up a long skill, and at some point they thought "oh, my skill's done, let's check back", reactivating their accounts. "EVE lows" are very common, they come and go, and this was one way to "bridge" them.
But as I said, I personally do not mind the change. Just PLEASE tell me in advance when my account is about to expire. ;-)
This man strikes it right on the head. I'm tired of my GTC expiring without notice and I've gotten "Eved-out" (Eve Burnout) every year of my three years and left for a month to 3 months with 20 days training going on and 90 day sell orders up. These breaks weren't even planned just 2 days in a row I just stopped logging and did something else with my free time. If no new skill was waiting for me and my orders were immediately canceled when my account lapsed then I doubt I would still be playing. My desire for something new would have taken me to some of the new MMO games sprouting up every few months.

Going to keep this short and sweet, you are going down a slippery slope here this is something which is a big selling point for EvE and encourages people to have multiple accounts, this will just make people sell those accounts or just stop playing in that way altogether, I currently have various characters I do for different things for my alliance and I will just cancel all of them apart from my "fun" character (IE character that can fly nanohacs etc) and sell the rest.
If characters did not train when you lapsed I would have quit long ago, and in fact this is making that decision a lot easier.

"A long overdue and much needed change"
Wrong, and, wrong - it is the ONLY reason that I resub time to time, knowing I might have something new or better when I do
The 60day GTC was bad enough
I cant see how this is going to help icelands economy, halving the subscribing players :S
Also, when China was launched this way, CCP stated that they would not change the unsub skill training on TQ - kinda a lie then ?
I had hoped this was an attempt to see how fast a thread could grow, or a fund raiser for Comic Relief maybe? Let's hope Im right, gonna be a PITA selling all my stuff off and finding another way to pay for a way to waste a load of time :(

Originally by: Praesus Lecti I quite doubt that the number of people who are declaring that they are canceling additional accounts will actually do so. But I really hope they do...I prayto every conceivable diety that the accounts are indeed canceled and remain gone forever. I'd love to see the herd thin out a bit.
CCP will not go bankrupt over this decision. Their balance sheet will barely register a blip with this change. Cry all you emo tears you can muster, this is a good change to EVE.
I would like to hear you say this again after you are done playing all by yourself... :D
CCP will go bankrupt after all those "herds" stop paying for this... This is not my first MMORPG and the first sign when things went downhill were always related with money... and I'm gonna tell you:
After the "herd" cleared all that remained were spiders and macros...

Originally by: Ri****ulo I am a bit impartial here as i don't really do ghost training. I like playing too much to take a break.
That said, i suppose no one told CCP that training queues would be something the player base would like, but nothing really that important. After all, its been years without it anyway.
Training queue and ghost training cant exist together and as the CSM told CCP "We want training queues", i guess CCP went for it...
Unfortunately no one forethought this choice between skill queue training and ghost training. For the majority, the first is a luxury and the second a necessity.
In the end, CCP must be pretty ****ed with the CSM and this will make it more deaf to its recommendations in the future.
Result: Epic fail everyone, Epic fail CCP if they really go through with this.

If they add skill queue, then I don't mind the change!
But I also think that the change is logical, and would force multi account holders "alts" to reduce their alts number, and adds more stress to account sellers... if that is what CCP is planning!
I believe a deve blog about this change would be a plus. --------- Will work for your forzen corpses! |

Can someone explain, to all those that fail to understand, how having ghost training (and hence having players with multiple accounts they don't pay for but spend most of the time inactive) makes CCP any money at all?

One alt need for ghost training 6x60 day subscription = 6x35$ or euro = 210$ or euro in one year. 10k alt = 2,100,000,00$ loss/year dear CCP Ok not 2,1m, just 2.1m summ of 80-90% because 10-20% alt will still there in game.

I have several accounts(More than 2) that are paid for and have always been paid for by credit card, have never lapsed for long skills, and have never timecarded. But even I see this as a poor and woefully misguided choice from CCP's choice.
Both this and the timecard decision really let a lot of people dont(not me, its making me stupid rich) and should be seriously rethought.
Also **** you guys that want skill qeue's, you can't have them till we get them for setting up a POS.
